I really enjoyed the magic system. It was not overly complicated and it was easy to follow. The magic flows so well throughout the story and is such a natural release. THE END WILL HAVE YOU SCREAMING AND GRIPPING YOUR BOOK OR KINDLE.

I just finished Immortal Consequences by @ and I was amazed!
This book follows characters navigating Blackwood Academy and being stuck in the ether.
I was intimidated by their being six POVs but the author did a great job at distinguishing each characters individuality so it flowed seamlessly!
This book was atmospheric and captivating! Definitely go add this to your TBRs so you won’t miss out on what’s sure to be one of the best of the year!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review!

I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.

Blackwood Academy is a prestigious boarding school located at the edge of the afterlife where students who have passed on, learn to reap souls from the Ether and guide the lost souls to the other side. The only way to graduate is to pass the Decennial, a trial that occurs every 10 years. One student is selected for the Decennial to complete four trials. If they are successful, they are given the option to be part of Blackwood's elite known as the Ascended or move on to the Other Side. However, things are changing at Blackwood Academy, and these Decennial rules have changed to be a competition. With only one winner, six students must fight for their chance to win.
I finished this book a couple of days ago and I cannot stop thinking about it. Even though we are only at the end of March, I can say for certain this book will be at the top of my list for favorite books in 2025. There are so many mysteries that lie beyond the gates of Blackwood Academy, and I was completely invested in these characters as they navigate the Decennial and their relationships with the rest of the "unfortunate acquaintances." This book is full of twists and turns, that I didn't want to stop reading to find out what happens next, and the cliffhanger had me throwing my kindle and trying to find out when book 2 will be coming out even though this book isn't even published yet. If you are a fan of Dark Academia, this book is a must add to your TBR.
Immortal Consequences comes out July 29th.
Thank you to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for the opportunity to review Immortal Consequences. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I think the concept if this book is great and very interesting. However, it was very hard for me to get into. I think it was the multiple POVs? Idk I felt kind of overwhelmed with the amount of people I had to keep up with. If you can read books with more than 2 POVs and not get overwhelmed, then I think this book will be enjoyable for you, but I think this book just wasn’t for me.

✨ARC Review✨
Immortal Consequences
by I. V. Marie
I finished this book in one day because it was such an interesting read. The magic concept was very different from others I have read before. Moreover, the characters were well-written. World building was A+ as well.
Although it started out a little slow for me, it eventually picked up the pace after the second trial. I was a little unsure of the multiple POV as well, but I learned to appreciate it eventually. It was enjoyable to read from the perspective of the main characters.
If I were to choose my favorite among the characters, it would be Olivier and Emilio. They had such chemistry, tension, and love for one another. The slow burn was still burning even after I finished the book.
I wish we learned more about the Ascendeds and what they actually do. There were a lot of things that could have been explored. If there extra pages, I would love to read them!
I recommend Immortal Consequences to readers who love books such as Hunger Games and Harry Potter. I cannot wait for the sequel!

*thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Wow what a thrilling read!Immortal Consequences by I.V. Marie had me completely enthralled from start to finish! The story is full of intensity, mystery, and romance, keeping me on edge the whole way through. The supernatural elements were so well-crafted, creating a world that felt both eerie and mesmerizing.
The characters were well-developed, and their journeys were full of twists and surprises .The writing was immersive, making me feel every moment of danger, passion, and intrigue. Just when I thought I knew what was coming, the book threw in surprises that left me breathless.
If you love dark fantasy with powerful characters, deep emotions, and a story that keeps you guessing, Immortal Consequences is a must-read. I couldn’t put it down and am already eager for more!

Wow! Rating this 3.5 stars.
I spent the last several chapters of this book gasping. I can’t believe I have to wait for book 2 when book 1 isn’t even released yet!
There is a large ensemble cast in Immortal Consequences. Typically, six perspectives would be too many to switch between, but it worked well! This story brought me that mid-2000 dystopian novel feel in the best way. I had so many questions in the first half of the book. It dragged a bit, but once the trial began, I was hooked. The author does an amazing job describing the horrors they face in the competition
I had so many questions the whole read. Certain things didn’t add up, there were holes in the plot, and far-stretched, unbelievable things…. and then with just a couple of twists and turns, it all clicked into place!!
Will be reading the second book eventually and recommending this one to my friends!

Thank you NetGalley for the arc. This book had such positive reviews, and I was really excited to dive in. However, after getting about 30% through, I just couldn't get into it and have decided to DNF for now. I might revisit it later, but I'm not sure. The main issue for me was the multiple viewpoints from different characters right from the start. It felt like there wasn't enough time to settle into one perspective before the story shifted to another. While I do enjoy multiple POVs, the way it was introduced felt overwhelming all at once. I really wanted to love this one, and it's disappointing that I couldn't connect with it. Also, for those curious, there wasn't any spice in the first 30%, but I can't speak for the rest of the book.

This plot had so much potential but my god was it fumbled. I don’t know who these characters are. I don’t even know what they look like. And there was just no emotion in them, i didn’t even care about them. It was too many characters in not enough pages, although olive Blake would prove even that excuse wrong with Atlas six (a clear inspiration for this book if you ask me)

*I received an arc through NetGalley*
This book sucked me in from the first page and didn’t let up. I read it over a few days but I could not. stop. thinking about it at all hours. The world building was expertly crafted, the characters were complex and all had their own reasons that we slowly got clued into as the book went on. I was rooting for all of them for different reasons. And the plot twists! UGH they were so well done! And the tortured longing!
I simply love this world. This book. These characters.
I am kicking myself for reading this before launch since the second book is even further away BUT it was WORTH IT. Nothing but good things to say about this book and I’m having a hard time shutting up right now. If the synopsis sounds up your alley 100% go read it.
I will absolutely be purchasing/preordering my own copy of this to read again.

IMPORTANT DETAILS: 5/5 STARS ( i would rate it higher though TBH!)
Enemies to Lovers
Dark Academia
Multiple POVs
found family
shocking twists
Basically there are six students at Blackwood Academy( an enigmatic boarding school located at the edge of the afterlife... purgatory). They must compete for the once-in-eternity chance to change their fate. An unputdownable book full of hairpin twists, shock betrayals and world-defying love.
Once someone enters the academy’s arched gates, there is no way out . . . except for the Decennial, a once-in-a-decade celebration in which a single, worthy student is tested and given a choice: Graduate and join Blackwood’s magical elite, or cross over to the mysterious Other Side.
This time, though, the rules have changed. This Decennial isn’t a celebration—it’s a competition. And there can only be one victor.
Each of these six students has their own motivation to win . . . and their own secret to hide. But what none of them know? They aren’t the only ones playing Blackwood’s game. And if they lose. . . some fates are worse than death.
I’m having a hard time coming up with words for this book. This is literature heaven for YA Fantasy readers. **chef's kiss**
Immortal Consequences is my new favorite fantasy of all time. I knew from the first post online that I ran across from IV Marie describing this book that I was going to love it. Instantlt obsessed with this idea. I instantly told everyone about it. Then I made everyone preorder it. When I received this eARC..... to say that I screamed cried..... like full on eeeekkkkkk! I was scared to start the book simply because as a fellow writer, I tend to build up a book based off the description and my mind runs with it. I can always enjoy the story but I always feel let down because in my mind it could always be better. That wasn't the case with this book! I enjoyed this book from the first line to the last. The writing style is amazing!
Upon arriving at Blackwood Academy, you are introduced to Wren, August, Olivier, Emilio, Masika, and Irene; the characters of the book. We are able to enjoy all 6 of their POV’s( an immersive experience into the minds of all of the characters). This creates a highly interactive experience for the reader as it allows you to truly get to know these characters at their root. Their dreams, desires, goals, secrets, and intentions. You honestly learn their personalities as if the book made a tapestry of each character with their very essence. Each character etches themselves into your mind like no other. You quickly become invested and transported into their world. Throughout the entirety of the novel it felt like it flowed effortlessly. So atmospheric. So immersive. So cinematic. The worldbuilding was done so poetically.
I was in constant suspense. Always wondering what was going to happen next. You quickly form attachments to each of these characters that have so much depth and complexities about them that are just so beautifully raw.
This kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read.... I was captivat4ed from the beginning so it wasn't that difficult to keep me focused! I don't want to give away too much of the book as I am a spoiler loather myself. Please go read this when it releases because I promise you this book is going to be circulating throughout booktok and bookstagram very soon!
If you love rivals to lovers, dark academia, multiple POV’s, found family, longing, captivating writing, that will keep you guessing what will happen next, you need to add this book to your tbr.
The fact that this is Isa’s debut novel is remarkable in that her writing is immersive, magnetic, and captivating. The way that her writing made me forget I was even reading was truly magical. I am happy to say that this book will forever be one of my favorites. Definitely add this to your TBR list then skip to the front of the line because IT IS WORTH IT!

4.25 Stars. This was such a fun read. I loved how different this book was. It gave me some harry potter vibes with the school. I am so excited to see where the second book goes. I loved August, he was my favorite!
Thank you so much to the author, Netgalley, and the publisher for providing this ARC.

So firstly, a huge thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. It was one of my most anticipated reads and I feel so blessed to have the chance to read it months before its debut. Now for my review:
I DNF’d at 54%
I wanted to like this one, I really did. I was beyond excited when I was approved for this ARC: dark academia, enemies to lovers, games and trials (all of my favorite tropes!). The concept is really cool and unique so I expected a six star read. But what I got was something that felt unfinished. I think with several more rounds of edits and removing unnecessary scenes I could have continued. But as it was, around 38% I first started wanting to DNF. In the very beginning it felt very info-dumpy. Perhaps for some that’s an okay way of learning about a magic system, but for me I like to learn as we go. I like a little bit of confusion in the beginning of worldbuilding, I think its the mystery that keeps me going and has me intrigued. In those cases, I am curious to learn more about a world. But with this book, it was explained pretty explicitly. That wasn’t a dealbreaker for me though, so I kept reading.
It was around 38%— the first trial (the maze scenes) were I first considered DNFing. It was just so repetitive. It felt like I was reading the same scene over and over again from 4 different POVs. Enough is enough. But I kept going because I truly wanted to give this a chance. At 54% the second trial in the Ether, the moment Wren is in trouble I thought to myself: ‘if August comes to her rescue right now this is my sign to DNF.’ Because that would mean the book is not only “tell dont show” but its also predictable. What do you know, August shows up to the rescue. So at that point I DNFed.
But there were some things that I did like, so lets get into those:
-the unique concept. A magical school that exists in purgatory!? Okay talk about innovative. Its a fantastic idea and had me interested in reading on that alone.
-LGBTQ+ friendly. Emilio and Olivier’s relationship was the only relationship worth exploring. The only relationship that felt real and authentic and like it developed on the page with the reader as the witness. I never got to a point where they got together, but for a moment I considered continuing to see how their story unfolds.
-Diverse characters. Olivier is french, Irene is of asian descent. You can’t say these characters were white-washed. It was nice to see representation on the page and I think this books audience will really appreciate that.
Now, the things I didnt like:
-As previously menioned, the info dumping in the beginning (which continues more subtly but still in a telling not showing way throughout the first 54%)
-August and Wren. The rivals to lovers arc is one of the main reasons I wanted to read this so badly. But they fell completely flat for me. I think it was because they had no context for their relationship. Half the fun in an enemies to lovers story is seeing how the enemy part plays out first and how they transition into lovers. But with these two, it felt like we joined their story late and missed the entirety of part 1. Why are they even rivals? Everyone around them immediately points out their connection so we never really get a true storyline there.
-repetition: the same scene happens over and over again but from different perspectives. For example, the first trial of the maze, 4 different characters faced the same dark versions of themselves, 2 got pulled into the maze with vines. In the ether, it was mostly the same thing. I think if either we had gotten different experiences from the different characters or the trial was told from a single characters POV it would have been more digestible and kept the pacing of the story going.
As a whole, I’m sorry to say this one wasn’t for me. I do hope it finds its audience and the author has success because I know she put a lot of time and effort into this book. At the end of the day, I had to leave my honest review so here we are.

It’s been years since I read the first few chapters, met the first few povs, and felt completely immersed in a new world. It is a book that lingers with you while you aren’t reading, leaving you wondering who these characters are, what this world will do to them, and how they will develop.
I found myself at work, at Pilates, and even at a dinner party wishing I was reading instead. For me, that is the first sign of a five star read.
Six unique individuals live and study in purgatory, left waiting for a nomination to compete for a different afterlife. Some are never chosen, some give their past lives to walk among the ominous Demien Order, but the six students we meet are all after something different.
From the start we meet our angsty enemies, two teens too smart and stubborn for their own good. Drawn to each other, and experts in what makes the other tick—or untick, I should say. From the first 30 pages, I was in for the long haul. I would read thousands of pages to find the resolve between Wren and Augustine. My favorite love to follow, the one only we readers can see burning, but will surely smother them both.
The book was overall a six star read for me, I was completely immersed in the afterlife. I ended up loving all six POVs, the characters complex and imperfect in their own right. Perfectly paced, impeccably intense, and incredibly binge-worthy. It was everything I look for in a book, and I cannot wait for book 2. Since finishing, I have thought about the characters everyday.
A must-read for all.

I am devastated to say I am DNF’ing this book. I am about a third into it and keep putting it down and find myself having great difficulty picking it back up. No issue with I.V. Marie or this book, I just don’t think it is for me and I find myself not gripped by the story.
There’s a chance I will try and pick this up again; in that case I will edit this review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s for providing me with this ARC.

Immortal Consequences, a captivating tale by I.V. Marie, transports readers to the enigmatic Blackwood Academy, a boarding school nestled within the realm of Purgatory. Once a student enters, they rarely find their way back out. Here, they embark on a journey of magical learning, soul reaping, and an ardent desire to secure a spot in the prestigious Decennial—a competition held every ten years that grants the victor the coveted ability to alter their fate.
The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of six diverse students: Wren, August, Emilio, Olivier, Masika, and Irene. Each character harbors their own agenda and concealed secrets, driving their motivations for competing and striving for victory. The author’s masterful use of multiple point-of-views delves deep into the hearts and minds of these individuals, revealing their unique personalities and the intricate tapestry of their desires.
I.V. Marie’s writing style is nothing short of immersive, creating an experience akin to watching a movie rather than merely reading a book. As the characters’ emotions intensify, so do the reader’s own, drawing them into a web of intrigue and suspense.
Overall, Immortal Consequences stands as a remarkable read, highly recommended for fans of dark academia, enemies-to-lovers tropes, and the allure of multiple perspectives. It promises to keep readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the unfolding of this captivating tale.
5⭐️ for eternity. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Children’s and Delacorte Press for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little different than what I’m used too but it was a good read for me. Highly recommend it to another who loves this type of genre. 10/10

Immortal Consequences is a unique dark academia story that involves unique trials. I enjoyed the concept of beyond death and what it could entail. The world building was really cool and the structure of the after life society. You really ended up caring for each of the characters, and you were pulled in through the enemies to lovers trope. Found family in the after life, meant so much more when you learn more about what being in the after means and why the competition is so important and sought after. I generally like 1st person POV stories, but I did really enjoy this multi-POV story. The ending will leave you wanting more! Thank you Netgalley and Random House Children’s/Delacorte Press for allowing me to read this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
