Everything’s Coming Up Rosie
Courtney Walsh
Publication date: June 10, 2025
5/5 stars
I adored this book! Rosie is chasing her dream of becoming an actor on Broadway in New York and applying to any and all jobs. With no other prospects, Rosie accepts a director position in Wisconsin only to arrive and realize all her actors are residents of a retirement community.
I loved this book!! If it’s possible, this book felt like a hug. Courtney writes such heartfelt stories with amazing character development. I really appreciated the open communication between Rosie and Booker and the underlying message about chasing your dream but also allowing it to evolve and change. Highly recommend this book!
Thank you Courtney Walsh, Thomas Nelson Fiction and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

No spice/closed door
I love Courtney Walsh's books. Her characters are so genuine and relatable. You cannot help but love them and be moved by their character development. The lessons/themes of this book (like all of Courtney's) really touched me in a deep way. I will be thinking about it for awhile really. The plot and setting was so fun and quirky - the whole thing would have been cheesy by any other author but Courtney has a really magical way of making it so authentic and heart-felt. The FMC has some childhood trauma she's working through but the story is not heavy at all but extremely light and positive - while also being reflective.
Rosie and Booker were so sweet and I loved the little sub-plot of romance we get from them, and their happy ending. Rosie's relationships with her friends, Arthur, and all the other seniors were so fun to read about. They were funny and lovable. I loved reading about how they become a little family. I kind of wish we got to see more of her friendship with Daisy and Louie - it really feels like they dropped off the face of the earth part of the way through. I also wished we had gotten more resolution between herself and her mom, who we never really get to know up close.
This story meant something to me and I am honestly not sure how I haven't binged all of Courtney Walsh's other books. They are consistently 4.5-5 stars for me and I love her way of writing contemporary fiction so much!!

Oh my heavens! Courtney does it again. I fell in love with all the characters. I laughed and cried and cannot say enough good about this darling book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

This book was fun, but it felt a little recycled. When I’m reading a story like this there are certain expectations of the genre that are always a little serotonin boost, but there’s also the understanding that subverting a few of those expectations to give the book a unique flavor is fun, I was just missing a little bit of that uniqueness.

This is a book about Rosie who is convinced that her friends all have better lives than she does. She thinks she has done a good job faking that she’s doing very well herself. (She who has never done this, throw the first stone.) Very relatable novel with oodles of wisdom.
What I liked
A lot! The details about life as an actress and in the theatre. The friendship between the girls. The turn around in how the main character views herself and how she views old people. The effect words and situations can have on someone and how those might get people’s lives completely off the rails. My favorite part was probably the emphasis on pursuing a new dream if your old one doesn’t work out and the realization that we all battle fears, worries, disappointment and hurt.
Good piece of advice
Don’t dwell on the past but be thankful for what you have now.
Favorite quotes
“What if feeling deeply is my superpower because it’s the thing that allows me to connect with other people?”
“..you have to ask yourself what you want most….and you have to be okay if what you want most isn’t what you thought.”
What I didn’t like
It took Rosie a very long time to see the error of her ways and I found myself getting impatient with her. But, truth be told, that’s how it is in real life too.
That book is funny, deep, has momentum and colorful characters. You’ll find that it enriches your life.
Many thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for providing me with a free complimentary copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

You can't go wrong with a Courtney Walsh novel and this one definitely didn't disappoint!
Rosie was desperate for any job in acting, but was surprised when she found herself taking a directing job at a retirement community. She quickly fell in love with the residents and the resident physical therapist, Booker. The quick wit and banter made me chuckle and Rosie and Booker's love story made me swoon. The only thing that would make this novel even better is knowing there'd be a sequel with Daisy and Louie's story.

When Rosie got a job at a theatre in Door County, she was excited for the chance to have a solid job for the summer, even if it was different than her dream of life on the stage. With a wonderful cast of characters and a lot of growth, Rosie ends up having a summer she didn't expect, but it might just be for the best.
Rosie was a character that was so relatable in a number of ways. Her struggles, her fears, her dreams, and her growth made it so easy to connect with her and quickly become invested in her story. I laughed, I cried, I swooned over her and Booker, and cheered on the Cinderella cast until the very end.
Courtney Walsh does an amazing job at creating characters that add such depth to the story and leave you wanting to hang out with them for a little while longer. This was such an easy five star read for me.

Everything’s Coming Up Rosie is a heartwarming romance that follows Rosie - aspiring actress living in NYC and on the verge of bankruptcy - completely off the beaten path and onto discover things she never thought possible. Struggling to find work and make ends meet, Rosie heads back to her small hometown after years of living in NYC trying to make it big. She sees her best friends living their best lives, and after already feeling like she struggled to fit in and find her place, she feels more alone than ever. Applying to every acting related job she can find, she receives an offer to direct a production Cinderella at a theatre, and without even reading it through she accepts.
In a dramatic turn of events, it turns out Rosie moves out to Wisconsin, to a retirement village, and the production will feature all of the senior citizens who live there. Rosie almost bails, but the friends she finds along the way, along with her own self growth, convince her to stay. Enter Booker, heartthrob of the village and all around nice guy, and naturally, he only has eyes for Rosie. The pair grow closer as Booker tries to tap away at Rosie’s tough exterior and find the girl underneath who is scared to fail but will do everything to prove herself.
This was a really fun read. It’s funny, well-written, and I absolutely loved the setting, especially with the banter and interactions of some of the older characters living in the village. Rosie did irk me for the first half of the book - if I had to hear her say ‘I’m an actor’ one more time and use that to justify her actions or feelings, I don’t think I could’ve kept going. But at around 50% of the book we get a huge piece of character development for Rosie, and from there I was all in.
I love that Courtney was able to curate a beautiful relationship that had all the emotion and steam yet was still behind closed doors. She is an amazing writer who hits you in all the feels, and I will absolutely be reading more of her books!
Thank you so much to NetGalley for the eARC of this book.

Courtney Walsh is an automatic read for me every single time because I've never read a book of hers I didn't just love. So when I started this book about theatre I wasn't real sure if she would be able to capture my attention like she usually does. I'm just not that into theatre. Then we find ourselves in a retirement community and I'm like Courtney what are you doing to me? But alas she swept me off my feet with another one of her romance books! I absolutely loved this book and all the characters. I had no problem imagining each of them to their fullest extent. I wanted to be part of the story myself. I found myself laughing and crying throughout the entire book. I didn't think I'd be able to finish at one point with all the tears in my eyes. You will absolutely love this book!!

Loved this book, it was such a refreshing read from my normal genre and im definitely keen to read more from this author. I couldn't put it down and read it straight through in one evening. Highly recommend xx

Before I get to what this book is about I have to say it is PHENOMENAL. I laughed, I cried, I giggled, I had big feelings, I felt giddy like a school girl with a crush, this book really was an experience and an amazing one at that. I wish I could read this book again for the first time because it really was that wonderful of an experience
Now what you’ll get in this book without giving away spoilers- friendship, family, found family, healing of trauma, healing of generational trauma, lovable characters, closed door romance with a slow burn that is just perfection, so much growth, jokes, songs, theater jokes of course, and so much more.
Rosie is an actress who has been struggling for a long time but she refuses to tell anyone so faced with the choice of coming clean that she’s broke and jobless she takes a job she doesn’t remember applying for, and it’s nothing that she expected, or wanted, but is it what she needs, you’ll have to read to find out..just trust me it’s worth it

The romance, the found family, the retirement community. All of it was amazing. There wasn’t a character that I didn’t end up loving and when the book was over, I was crying because I loved it so much. This was such a precious book and a perfect summer read.

This story is so inspiring! "Everything Coming Up Rosie" is a beautifully written romance novel that captures the essence of finding love and shaping/following your dreams after setbacks. The story follows Rosie, a down on her luck actress struggling to make it in the NYC theater scene. She learns she gets a creative team job after tucking her tail and heading home. She realizes upon arrival at her new job that it’s not what she anticipated. Her job is director of a retirement community theater. I was hesitant at first because the story really focuses on Rosie’s struggles with her situation, but Walsh does a great job shaping the story so that you not only understand why Rosie struggles, but root for her along the way. Overall, "Everything Coming Up Rosie" is a must-read for fans of chaste romance and inspirational fiction.
Thank you Thomas Nelson Fiction for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

What a sweet romance about self-discovery! It was the most charming and touching tale. It was hilarious, easy to read, had excellent character development, and couldn't have been better.

I smiled while reading the entire book
I was cautiously optimistic while reading Courtney Walsh’s latest book. I was cautious because I was never a theater person in school but optimistic since it was a Courtney Walsh book and I love her writing. It’s a rare book that has me smiling throughout the whole story but that is what happened. That’s not to say everything was sunshine and roses from cover to cover to but the story was so relatable that I couldn’t help smiling, and laughing, and feeling all the feelings. This one is well worth a read!

Everything's Coming Up Rosie by Courtney Walsh is a beautiful clean romance. I enjoyed the romantic buildup and I also loved the themes on following your dreams and how being vulnerable helps us get the much needed support from family and friends. Lovely read.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Wow! What a fun, heart warming read! In this story we follow Rosie, who is a struggling actor from New York City. Faced with having no prospects She sends out a bunch of resumes and gets a job offer to direct a play called Cinderella. Rosie doesn’t really pay attention to the details of the job offer and ends up, directing a play cast by senior citizens. During this, Rosie struggles to come to terms with the way, her life has ended up and isn’t sure if she should pursue her passion anymore. This book follows Rosie as she makes new friends, rekindles old friendships and potentially a new love. I think this book did a wonderful job of showing how sometimes in life the things we are passionate about can change and that we all need someone in our life to be authentic with. I really loved her relationship with her friends and that Brooks (mmc) was there for her to learn how to be true to herself. This is my second read by this author, and I am definitely going to be reading more by her!

Such a cute self discovery romance! Rosie is on an adventure to figure out what to do with her life and the lessons she learns along the way have a way of tugging at your heart strings. The humor woven throughout the book is really the cherry on top. This is definitely a must read romantic comedy!

Rosie is yet another delightful character created by author Courtney Walsh. Her superpower is looking more closely at the people around her and seeing beyond what others see in them. However, by agreeing to take a job out of desperation, which drops her into an unexpected community, she finds that she may need others to help her see within herself to find her own strengths and purpose. These side characters add depth and layers to a story set within the theater and retirement communities, and enrich Rosie's story of finding her next steps.
While missing Courtney Walsh's typical faith threads, this novel is clean, and cute, and rich.
