Thanks for the review copy. I was not able to read this one, so I did not leave a review on social media.
What is love, like, really? Is there a safe place inthe world - and safe people?
Life has not been easy for Gin Lightly so far. 36-year-old single mother knows that men always take what they want and then leave, so she is prepared - her suitcase is always packed and she doesn't stay at one place long enough to create any bonds, with just anyone.
But Banister falls might be different - her 18-year-old daughter Raine is graduating, so they might stay a while.
But then Raine comes with the most shocking news - and the history is going to be repeated. Or not?
Dan Moretti has always been in love with Evie. But Evie had married his best friend and even after his death her heart is still locked, so Dan is just waiting on her and trying to be her friend and the male presence in the life of her 18-year-old son Cody.
Cody is the poster Christian guy, really. He tries hard and everybody likes him. And then the new girl catches his eyes - and his heart. And then comes THE situation.
Tender and wise book. And beautiful double love story!
What I love about the book is that it is not judgmental the least. Instead of criticizing, the authoress just takes your hand after the big mess you have made, makes you the cup of hot chocolate and speaks about hope and God who is still here for you.
And even if the book speaks about hope, it is not naive. Everything will not become the rosy garden. People will judge you, you will mess up again, life will not be easy from the moment on. But you are not alone.
I love everybody here - and this is not that often! Gin with her sass and brittle answers covering her hurt heart. Dan, the protective guy, always there for everyone else, but never fighting for himself (and he is so manly while doing all the protecting!). Raine with her strength. Cody with his tender heart. Evie, complicated and getting it right at the end.
And the sweetness all of them have, the genuine goodness you can't fake. This I might love the most. The book really IS the cup of hot chocolate of the best quality, warming and healing your heart.
