I enjoyed this sweet romance, although I had difficulties concentrating as the narrative did not hold my attention. Lord Trey and Miss Judith Faraday have an unfortunate history that initially clouds their renewed relationship. Trey is Judith's reluctant guardian as she is about to embark on her first season, and Judith is doing her best to escape Trey's attention as she is already in love with a naval officer who appears to be missing. Despite his inner vows to never marry, Trey cannot help but be attracted to Judith and he knows that he has an effect on her. Unfortunately, as details begin to emerge regarding Judith's erstwhile fiancé, Trey knows that nothing good can come out of the situation. The novel becomes more interesting in the final chapters and closes on a heartwarming note. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

She does want a faithful husband, naturally, which Trey cannot be.

An orphaned young lady tries to flee to her secret fiancé when a letter arrives letting her know that her childhood nemesis is on his way to take her to her father’s will appointed guardian. Unfortunately Alex is not at their rendezvous and she finds herself constrained to accompany Lord Trey to his mother’s estate. It doesn’t take long before thoughts of Trey transplant Alex but how can there be a happy ending when Trey is convinced that love equals hurt? An enjoyable story that I read in one sitting though I did feel there were some inaccuracies.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
