Smoke and mirrors - egos larger than their wallets - competition a daily event. Sin City and the underworld of magicians and entertainers where the young usurp the old who may not be ready to step back, and greed and jealousy prevail. Interesting characters, complex and slightly predictable at points, but everything comes together in an engaging investigation.

I like detective stories and I like Las Vegas so I was pleased to read this book. It's an easy read that kept my attention and the main character had the appropriate domestic problems while trying to solve the crime. However, I eventually tired of the magician fraternity and their need to be the best. I suppose such characters have to be over top but for me, they detracted from the story line.

I assume this one has had lots of edits since it arrived on netgalley.
I absolutely loved this story. The setting, the glitz, the magic etc - I loved it all. I loved the way the story had so many strands and they all wove together beautifully.
There were a lot of errors, so assume these have been fixed now.
Also one massive plot hole - still loved the book though!

A daring trick gone wrong, lots of twists and turns but failed to hold my interest. A mix of characters most of them self centred.

The book moved pretty quickly, and I got the sense the author was familiar with the Vegas magic world it was set in, but ultimately the characters didn't stand out from each other, and there wasn't a ton of suspense and twists, and the ending was unsatisfying.

I really enjoyed this book. CV Hamilton did an excellent job making this an interesting and fascinating book. The main character of Maxwell was well written, and I enjoyed reading about the hidden parts of being a magician. It was full of action and twisted so well. I admit that I couldn't put it down from the first page. The plot of this book was so well planned out that I had no clue what was coming. I highly recommend this book to the thriller/mystery lovers. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Thank you Net Galley ARC, Books Go Social, and CV Hamilton

Maxwell Beacham-Jones, the world’s most famous magician, has reached the zenith of his success. Now he’s planned the most daring, outrageous trick of his career. But when Maxwell dies in a Las Vegas roller coaster escape stunt before a national television audience, it’s no accident. He was hated by his contemporaries, and all of the suspects are magicians with plenty of secret motives for murder! Great read!! Oooooh I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! I loved the “behind the scenes” of magicians! It had great suspense, intriguing, action, murder, fantastic mystery and some crazy twists that I did not see coming! The storyline was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
