You ever read a book that just makes you want to take several showers?
This one did.
Not because it's bad. It's actually really good, but DANG the stuff these kids were being put through....
Cults are bad, is what I'm saying.
Seed follows Pearl as she slowly starts to recognize that the isolated community that she grew up in is not the paradise it claims to be.
This was a very interesting read. Much of the very bad things that are going on are mostly insinuated rather than pushed into the reader's face, which I liked. It was, disturbing as it was, always better to show don't tell. Pearl was naive, as one would have expected, but she grew on me.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
You may not want to read this while you're pregnant.
Also, this involves a cult, so there's physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse (including that of minors), implied rape/coerced sex.
And DELIBERATELY USING A MACHINE TO CUT OFF SOMEONE'S HAND.
And medical neglect by not taking people to hospitals/doctors when they clearly need professional help.
Still a great page-turner that I read fairly quickly. Though I was mentally shouting at the characters the entire time ;-)
Already reviewed and feedback sent. Not sure why these are duplicating. But please find review content at my archived blog www.behindonbooks.wordpress.com
- Thanks! Sorry this is a little haphazard.
This book was really well written! The ending was not my favorite and the girl is frankly to childish for my tastes ofcourse I kept on having to think Rachel this a 15 year old stop being a jerk...I frankly think the author did really well with the cult mentality. It is really slow at the beginning so expect to groan a few dozen times. I enjoyed this and it was quick read once you get past the beginning.
