This story is about the water cycle. There is a vaguely rhyming story of the cloud telling you the type of mood that they’re in from beginning to end. But then there’s also a little red bird telling the reader about the water cycle. For storytime purposes, you could choose to read one without the other and for bedtime purposes maybe we both. The book is OK. I’ve seen better. I’ve seen more. The illustrations are interesting but once again nothing amazing or unique.

A good title that covers clouds, rain and the water cycle. Great for teacher in early elementary teaching science classes.

Awesome book! I love how unique the topic of this book is - it's not every day that you see a kids' book that teaches children about the science behind weather. The author did an amazing job of combining and balancing a story with a lesson. The cloud had a full and complete story, while the bird explained what was happening from a scientific standpoint. Adding onto that, formal terminology was used, but everything was defined very well, so great job on that! Lastly, the illustrations were organized nicely and the illustrator's use of colors was phenomenal! It's clear that the illustrator cares about what they do, and they do it well. Bravo!

Kersplash is a tale that takes us on a cloud's mesmerizing journey from the delicate formation of wispy, white billows to the dramatic crescendo of a thunderous downpour.

Zoe Si's enchanting, delicate sketches artfully draw readers into the myriad metamorphic forms that our whimsical little cloud experiences throughout the narrative. There are two captivating characters that intricately weave the story together: one is the ethereal cloud that conveys its meteorological changes in a charmingly anthropomorphic manner, and the second is the clever little bird who provides succinct scientific insights as an observant bystander. For young readers, one could simply traverse the cloud's mesmerizing journey through eye-catching, expansive typography. Meanwhile, the tiny annotations by the clever bird offer fascinating scientific tidbits that will delight more advanced readers hungry for deeper knowledge.
What makes Kersplash stand out among children's picture books about clouds is that it neither compromises on scientific accuracy nor diminishes the magic of discovery. Instead, it offers young readers a rich, multilayered exploration of the water cycle that feels more like an exciting adventure than a typical lesson. We loved this delightful read and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Throughout the book, kids will learn how clouds form, what types of clouds there are, and what clouds are capable of. This book will be a fantastic edition to any weather themed unit! Really enjoyed this children's book. It seems to be for slightly older kids...kindergarten, 1st grade...as it covers a lot of science topics that are probably a little sophisticated for the younger set. I love how it tells the story of a cloud while also going into the scientific aspects of the rain life cycle. It also talks about how thunder and lightning occur...I learned something about thunder myself! An engaging book for new readers to read by themselves or for a parent to read with them!

This book is so fun!! As an elementary school librarian I would absolutely love to read it aloud to my students. The combination of poetry using rhyme, descriptive words, atomotapeas, facts and a story line would make this such an interactive and captivating read aloud.
The story shares the progression of a cloud on its journey through becoming a full blown storm and then the calm after including a rainbow. The little red bird who gives scientific facts from the story in thought bubbles was such an excellent addition, they are concise and explained in a developmentally appropriate way for the children this book is geared toward.
The illustrations are beautiful and eye catching, the color pallette used for them is very appealing and calming to my eye.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for an ARC e-copy of this book, I can't wait for it to be released and get a hard copy for my library.

What a fun way to learn about the water cycle! This story follows a cloud as they suck up all the water in the air and in puddles all the way to a BURST and kersplash of rain and stormy lightning and thunder. For younger kids they can follow the water through its cycle and fun rhymes while the older kids can read through the more scientific details provided. It was a hit with my 2 year old and as a parent I appreciated how this book will grow with them and continue the learning each read.
