If you are someone who is a fan or the parent of a fan of the show, then this will be a great accompaniment especially if you are trying to encourage a younger reader. I also think it makes for a good bedtime read. The story is about a cat who has to rescue his favourite toy, and focuses on how his friends come together to help him.
That being said, because I am a fan of the actual comics/graphic novel, I was a bit disappointed in this story. It just didn't have the same oomph from the perspective of the artwork/illustration as well as the story. Was it bad? No. And I gave it 4 stars for the demographic and its objective. But it definitely lacks something when you compare it with the original. It did prompt me to pull out my first Binky the Space Cat comic because, well, this is a retelling. And there was nothing wrong with the overall story. I think if you have a youngster who likes the show, this is a good way to get them more into books, and it does a good job. If you have an older child who may be a bit stronger as a reader, I would skip this and go for the originals. Ashley Spires does such a lovely job illustrating ....
I would also say that these books can definitely be stand alone from each other, from the original series, and from the TV show. That makes it an easy way to get a reader into Ashley Spires especially if they have read some of her non-Binky material.
