🦥 This is the second installment in the Sloth & Squirrel series. I really enjoyed the first book – Sloth and Squirrel in a Pickle – and I enjoyed the second book as well.
🐿️ As you might guess, Sloth likes to take things slow, while Squirrel is all about speed! When they go on a vacation together, they end of spending most of the day apart. While Sloth snoozing on the beach, Squirrel decides to have some fun and goes rock climbing, kayaking, paragliding, ziplining, and waterskiing! When Sloth wakes up and can’t find Squirrel, so he goes off looking for him. This leads to Sloth rock climbing, kayaking, and paragliding himself (which is quite funny) before he finally spots Squirrel and they reunite.
🦥 The differences between Sloth and Squirrel are obvious, and seeing Sloth experience the “speedy” activities that Squirrel enjoys was a lot of fun. However, the heart of this book lies in recognizing that while friends may have their differences, they likely share many similarities as well. Finding common ground while respecting and adapting to our differences can make friendships stronger.
🐿️ I love the Sloth and Squirrel books and I hope the author continues with this series.
Thank you @netgalley and @Kidscanpress for an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for an advanced read copy of this adorable children's book.
In Sloth and Squirrel on Vacation, friends Sloth and Squirrel have two very different personalities but agree to take a trip to Paradise Park. After Squirrel's sense of adventure carries him away the two friends get separated and realize it would be more fun to spend sometime together. Sloth ends up enjoying all of Squirrel's fun activities as he combs the beach looking for him. When they finally reconnect, the two find a common ground in a tasty treat to enjoy together.
Cathy Ballou Mealey did a wonderful job at making this book interactive and enjoyable! Kelly Collier's illustrations are inviting for young readers too! I would recommend this book as great addition to a child's picture book collection or classroom library.
