Sloth and Squirrel are two friends who are opposite in every way but they enjoy having fun together. They decide to take a break from their pickle pop stand and have a hard time agreeing on a destination because they have such different interests... Squirrel wants to go, go, go! Sloth wants to sit back and relax. They find paradise park, a destination with something for everyone. As they have fun together Squirrel heads off on his own adventures and when sloth awakens he is always one step behind when following after Squirrel. Eventually they meet back up and get to have fun together. The illustrations are super cute and I love the color pallette used. This story teaches kids that we can be friends with people who are different than us and find ways to work together and problem solve to have fun. This one would be a super fun and engaging read aloud for my elementary school library! I will definitely consider purchasing it just for that once it is published.
Thank you to Kids Can Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

This is a cute story about opposites - a squirrel and a sloth - and their time spent together on vacation. I think their reason for being opposite may go over the heads of children, but it was cute all the same.

Very cute story about friends about friends who have different ideas about how to enjoy their vacation together. Beautiful illustrations and a good lesson/demonstration of friends who work together instead of arguing when they don’t necessarily agree on what they want to do. Will be keeping an eye out for this one to add to my PreK classroom curriculum.

Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC!

4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a great book about hardworking animals taking a vacation and slowing down.

The illustrations in this book were beautifully done. I loved finding all the animals.

This book had good morals and is perfect for summer.

I recommend this for ages 4-9!

A sweet and funny story about two friends with different ideas of what a vacation should be but realize that they can both make the vacation better if they lean into working together. Vibrant and fun, this book captured my son's attention and had us both giggling.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book.

I enjoyed this one, despite not having read the first book in the series. The language isn't at all difficult for young children to understand, even if some of the activities and adventures that Squirrel goes on might be new to them.

Overall there is a great theme here for young ones to learn from - that being that people can still be best friends despite having different personalities, and also the lengths that one may stretch themselves to when they aren't with that friend. It's a fun easy read whether a parent is reading it to their child or that child is reading it themselves.

I must give the illustrator a special praise here. While the story itself is great, the artwork takes it to another level. There is almost always something going on in the background and it might be a good idea while you and your young one read that you ask them to identify what they know in the pictures from what you have read, or even what else might be happening. One page in particular stands out as a good example of this and that is Squrrel's suitcase. I see it as an excellent example of asking a child something like "What else did Squirrel pack?" Despite having something aditional to look at in every scene other than what may actually be described in the text, the illustrations are never too jumbled or overly intricate. It's just the sort of thing I can see kids enjoying.

Overall, I have nothing but praise for this book and I think it would be a worthy addition for a parent to add to their library.

Sloth and Squirrel are excited to be on vacation together. They get separated, however, and must go looking for each other. Along the way they do activities they know the other would love, but are sad to do it without them. Finally they find each other thanks to Sloth's parachuting activity, and they spend the rest of their vacation relaxing together.

This is a lighthearted, easy summer read about friendship. I would recommend it especially during the summer months.

This was an adorable story about two very different personalities figuring out how to both enjoy their time together. It introduces the idea of compromise and finding common ground that everyone can enjoy. My toddler didn't want to finish reading the story, but I kept flipping out of my own interest. The art is super fun, my toddler loved it, and really helps push the pace of the story to match the characters.

It doesn't seem necessary to have read the first book, except for a very brief lead-in for the intro, and I'll definitely be adding the first one (and this one when published!) to my child's book wishlist.

🦥 This is the second installment in the Sloth & Squirrel series. I really enjoyed the first book – Sloth and Squirrel in a Pickle – and I enjoyed the second book as well.

🐿️ As you might guess, Sloth likes to take things slow, while Squirrel is all about speed! When they go on a vacation together, they end of spending most of the day apart. While Sloth snoozing on the beach, Squirrel decides to have some fun and goes rock climbing, kayaking, paragliding, ziplining, and waterskiing! When Sloth wakes up and can’t find Squirrel, so he goes off looking for him. This leads to Sloth rock climbing, kayaking, and paragliding himself (which is quite funny) before he finally spots Squirrel and they reunite.

🦥 The differences between Sloth and Squirrel are obvious, and seeing Sloth experience the “speedy” activities that Squirrel enjoys was a lot of fun. However, the heart of this book lies in recognizing that while friends may have their differences, they likely share many similarities as well. Finding common ground while respecting and adapting to our differences can make friendships stronger.

🐿️ I love the Sloth and Squirrel books and I hope the author continues with this series.

Thank you @netgalley and @Kidscanpress for an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for an advanced read copy of this adorable children's book.

In Sloth and Squirrel on Vacation, friends Sloth and Squirrel have two very different personalities but agree to take a trip to Paradise Park. After Squirrel's sense of adventure carries him away the two friends get separated and realize it would be more fun to spend sometime together. Sloth ends up enjoying all of Squirrel's fun activities as he combs the beach looking for him. When they finally reconnect, the two find a common ground in a tasty treat to enjoy together.

Cathy Ballou Mealey did a wonderful job at making this book interactive and enjoyable! Kelly Collier's illustrations are inviting for young readers too! I would recommend this book as great addition to a child's picture book collection or classroom library.
