if ashley writes it, i will read it. amazing, 10/10, i loved it so much. i will love anything she writes - but WOW!!!

Ashley Poston has yet again wrote one of the most poetically romantic stories of the year. Infusing her magic realism into the most intricate way, having you fall deeply in love with this world she creates. The characters in this book were written in such a beautiful and raw way that you felt inserted into this story, mixing in your DNA between the pages.
Joni is seemingly lost in her burnt, returning home and being such a relatable character. Infusing herself back in her hometown and music to discover what she loves about what she does, missing with a bad boy has been rockstar after one chance meeting. I love getting to see little bits of Sebastian through her eyes and how he morphs from Sebastian to her Sasha.
As always the romance is heart stoppingly sweet, mixed with the beautiful moments of grief and the realities of life. This book had me tearing up at so many parts I couldn’t wait to get to then and already feeling the emptiness that would overtake me when this one finished.

Another amazingly cute story by one of my favorite romance authors! I have absolutely loved all of her books. The story is always magical and has so much grief woven throughout but in the most lovely way! I think The Dead Romantics will always be my favorite but I truly loved this one too! I will read everything she writes!!!

Unfortunately, Ashley Poston’s Seven Year Slip is the only book by the author that I have enjoyed. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this arc.

3.5⭐️
I love romances including songwriters and/or musicians. The ending was equally adorable and heart wrenching but the rest was a bit slow (at least to me).
I do love how this author incorporates slight paranormal into her sweet romances. You never really know what you’re going to expect and I love that.
he falls first
forced proximity
paranormal
musician/somgwriter
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion.*

If you’ve ever curated a heartbreak playlist, screamed into the void of your car stereo, or fallen in love to the wrong song—Sounds Like Love will hit you right in the feels (and maybe break you a little in the best way).
This is the kind of love story that feels like a slow-burn indie track you find on a random playlist and then play on repeat until your soul hurts. Poston gives us two people orbiting around their own broken pieces, finding each other through music, miscommunication, and the messy, beautiful chaos of figuring out who you are after everything falls apart.
It's romance for the people who overthink, who romanticize every passing glance, who believe that love isn’t just a feeling—it’s a vibe. Think: enemies-to-lovers but with mixtapes, emotional baggage, and the kind of banter that feels like verbal foreplay.
And yes, there are moments that will absolutely wreck you. But there are also moments that feel like falling in love for the first time, when every song on the radio feels like it's speaking just to you.
This is When Harry Met Sally meets a rainy night drive, with the windows down and your favorite sad song on blast. It's vulnerable, raw, and oh-so-real. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll close the book, immediately queue up your heartbreak playlist, and text your friends in all caps about how much this book ruined you.
So, yeah. Add to cart. Add to your TBR. Add to your therapy budget. You're welcome.

This was cute! I did enjoy the setting and the telephatic connection between Sebastian and Joni. But I didn't really feel anything strong towards them or the story. Joni went back home to OBX and her mother has dementia... but there are only small snippets of her struggle. I feel like she only dipped her toe into diving into the struggle but never really any further... And I couldn't sympathize with Joni. She was sad she didn't visit more but like... visit more??? You have nobody to blame but yourself my girl...
I feel like they barely spent time together, even though they were together for the majority of the book? It felt like it was trying to do too much? and joni is going on dates with her ex bf and flirting with him up until 70% of the book? and as soon as her and sasha aren't in each others heads—as she's worried he won't be truthful with her anymore—she starts lying???
I just didn't connect to either of the characters. there was no reason to care about them. my biggest joy of the book was iwan and clementine cameo, literally. But was otherwise pretty forgettable :( which is sad because I love ashley postons books so much!

I really, really loved this one!
I love Ashley Poston's writing and this was one of my most anticipated reads for 2025, so thank you so much Berkley for the ARC!
Sounds Like Love gave me the same feeling that reading The Seven Year Slip did. I didn't feel as engaged with A Novel Love Story as I did with The Seven Year Slip. I was really hoping Sounds Like Love would be the book for me and it sure was! I absolutely love east coast vibes in books and nobody does magical realism better than Ashley Poston! This book had me invested from the first page!
I thought the way Ashley Poston touched on dementia in this book was really well done. I wish, as readers, we got to spend a bit more time with Joni's mom because the two of them had such a beautiful relationship!
This will 100% be my go to book whenever I'm craving an east coast read!

I'm very surprised and sorry to say that this is a DNF for me at least for now. I loved The Dead Romantics and The Seven-Year Slip, and I liked A Novel Love Story. This one didn't have the same depth of feeling in my opinion, and to be honest, didn't even feel like the same author... My main problems were with the mind meld concept which didn't really interest or make sense to me and the characters who I just didn't connect with. I'm disappointed, but I'm hoping this one just wasn't for me! will continue to read Ashley's books in the future.

I adored this story. It grabbed me from the get go and held me for the whole ride. I loved the musical aspect and the magical connection. I laughed and cried. Will definitely be recommending this one.

If you love a little magic mixed into your romance, Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston is the perfect read. Joni Lark is a hit songwriter who’s lost her spark—literally. She hasn’t been able to write in ages, and returning home to her family’s struggling music venue isn’t helping. But then, out of nowhere, she hears a melody in her head… and a voice that doesn’t belong to her.
Turns out, the voice belongs to a musician with his own baggage, and somehow, they’re telepathically connected. Now, their only hope of breaking this strange bond is to finish the song that’s haunting them both. But as they work together, the real question isn’t just about the music—it’s whether they can open up to each other without losing themselves in the process.
With Poston’s signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and just a touch of the extraordinary, this book is perfect for fans of The Seven Year Slip and anyone who believes in the magic of music—and love.

I absolutely loved this book! Ashley Poston doesn’t miss! A Novel Love Story by her is my favorite all time book. Sounds Like Love doesn’t get that title but is still a very well deserved 5 stars! It was pure magic. Dreamy. Heartwarming. I found myself in tears at the end due to Joni and her mom’s conversation. It was such a beautiful story. I love Ashley’s writing style. It has such a nice lyrical quality to it. I shared a Bookstagram post of this review and have it linked down below!

Always enjoy Ashley Poston's books. Great romantic story with a hint of the supernatural. It was touching story about finding your way and making your own happiness and also working through tough family issues.

I absolutely loved this story. It felt hopeful, it was inspiring, and I loved all the characters in it.

Ashley Poston does it again. I will read absolutely ANYTHING she writes. magical realism is one of my favorites, and she does it best!!! her writing is so addicting and will always have me so captivated. this story had a beautiful message about grief that literally had me in tears. there’s a specific quote that I probably can’t post yet, but oh my gosh it really changed how I thought about grief😭❤️🩹
I loved the growth of our two main characters their connection. their love story was so unique and beautiful. I love the comfort it brought to me by getting to see both of their inner thoughts, and realizing that we are all human and not so alone in how we think about things.
I loved this read and the message it brought to me. i know I’ll be thinking about it for a while, as I always do with Ashley’s beautiful words. I would recommend it to anyone💝🎶💐🫧🍋
Thank you Berkley Romance for the eARC<3

This book has been highly anticipated for me and Ashley Poston has delivered another beautiful piece of work that will stay with me for months to come. Ashley’s books speak to me on such a deep level and the way she weaves grief and magic and love into her words is nothing short of a masterclass. This book comes out in June, and you can bet I’m about to be insufferable about my love for it.
Not only does this have the soul-affirming beauty of Ashley’s books, but it has music at its core - for me, music was (and is) my first love. I live my life in playlists and soundtracks. Every major event has music associated to it in my head.
This book deals so beautifully with burnout. It’s something I think people in all fields can relate to, and is especially something that creatives can feel - when you follow your dream and then it becomes your career, sometimes the glitter dulls and the rose-colored glasses fall off. I loved the exploration of what it means to be passionate about something, and what doing the right thing versus the thing that’s right for you looks like. AND there’s grief and sadness and a BEAUTIFUL nickname and tenderness and hope.

Fun! I thought this was an interesting concept and very unique as a plot. I found some parts to be pretty cheesy, however

Ashley Poston has an incredible way of making magic feel so real, like it might actually be happening here with us and all we have to do is find it. Sounds Like Love is my new favorite Ashley book! It is funny, witty, and sincere. The way she mingles grief and hope is heartbreaking in the very best of ways.

Definitely not my favorite of Ashley Poston's but still cute. I just had a hard time believing the connection between the two main characters and felt the pace was slow. Still will auto read anything she publishes though!

I would’ve happily sold my soul to get my hands on an ARC of this book; The Dead Romantics, The Seven Year Slip and A Novel Love Story are some of my favorite romcoms. If you haven’t read The Dead Romantics or The Seven Year Slip I would HIGHLY recommend reading them first because A) they’re AMAZING and B) at least one fan favorite from those books makes an appearance in this one 😉.
Joni Lark is a successful songwriter battling a nasty case of writer’s block and facing a crossroads in her life. After meeting a sexy but infuriating former boy band singer at a concert in LA, sparks fly, but Joni heads back to her hometown for one last summer with her family and the beloved music hall that fostered her love of music. But everything’s changed and Joni can’t find her muse or her footing. Instead she hears a mysterious and persistent melody, and suddenly there’s someone else’s thoughts in her head alongside her own, and that song they can both hear that’s just begging for them to finish it.
Not only is this a musical and magical romcom, it’s also set in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. It’s the perfect beach read for this summer! Between the quirky margarita bar that would make Jimmy Buffet proud and the romantic moonlit strolls, I felt like I was at the beach with these characters with sand between my toes and the wind in my hair. Ashley Poston did a fantastic job breathing life into this place on the water and Joni’s beloved Revelry.
I’m not a huge music person and I’m not always a fan of celebrity or band fics, but Ashley Poston reminds us that all songs are love songs and that there’s always a soundtrack to our lives, regardless of whether we’re diehard music lovers with playlists for everything or the type that only listen to four crackly radio stations in the car. This book brought me right back to every song that had me cranking up the radio on road-trips or dancing and scream-singing along in the bar until last call.
Spoiler alert, this book also made me cry, just like the other three books Poston set in this universe. Joni’s mother has early-onset dementia and it’s heart-wrenching watching the slow toll it’s taking on her. Of course I loved watching Joni and Sebastian fall in love and find their song and that creative spark again together, but the real love story that really elevated this book for me is the one between Joni and her Mom, and Sebastian and his Mom, and the music that’s always tied them together. The way Ashley Poston writes about grief, I can’t explain it, but it’s like hearing that one song that makes you cry every single damn time, she makes you really feel it. And even if you forget the names of the characters or the plot, you’ll always remember how a book made you feel.
I still recommend reading the Dead Romantics and the Seven Year Slip first, they are still my favorites, but this book is a cute beach read and great for fans of celebrity or music romances. I give it a solid four stars and I will still gladly sell my soul for Ashley Poston’s next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
