Thank you so much to Udon Ent. and Mangasplaining for finally bringing a beloved series to English and for the ARC!
As always, I'll write a lenghty review on my blog and update the link later on. I'm planning to review both volumes together for reasons I'll explain, so I'll copy & paste this excerpt to both volumes. My rating is 2.5 stars.
I'm ... conflicted, to say the least. I've known Veil since, I don't know, forever. Kotteri's art style is distinct, eye-catching. Their fashion sense and attention to detail, talent in bringing intimacy to life on page is immaculate. You see Veil's protagonists, and you immediately want to know more about them. I have a friend who collects the JP volumes so I had a chance to take a look at a later volume, and of course, the word 'beautiful' doesn't even begin to capture the feeling this work fills you with.
As I have said, I had a chance to look at, if I remember correctly, the fifth volume, so I was expeecting a somewhat vignette-like structure. Yet still, the work took me by surprise and not in a positive way. I expected to fall head over heels for the two but was taken aback by how... flat it all felt altogether.
The reason I wanted to review both volumes together is that the first volume reads more like a scrapbook or ideabook where pieces are thrown together without caring too much about a narrative structure. Not that I think it matters a lot, but I couldn't even figure out whether the police and the heiress were already dating or not given how intimate they look. The second volume is more consistent in that regard compared to the first and definitely needs to be read together, but well...
The translation reads beautifully and the lettering is amazing, sovisually and production-wise, the volume is top notch! I can't, however, speak as favorably about the series itself, unfortunately. Maybe it gets better? Who knows!

The second volume of Veil explores in a deeper way the two protagonists with their phobias, showing aspects of them nearer to a sense of rom-com then to the mysteries I thought were central in the previous one, while I am sure they have not been abandoned. The style remains unique, with a character design whose beautiness is perfect for the nature of fashion magazine/artbook this series aspires to follow, while the world continues to shine despite the hidden details it is still holding back. A continuation which make me curious of the future of this publication.
FINAL VERDICT: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I liked this volume better than first one. We slowly see them building closer and I could feel the tension more in the volume.
Alexander is a walking green flag, and its so cute to see how he gets embarrassed easily around Emma. Emma seemed to find more of a reason to touch Alexander in this volume. It was so cute when she snuggled with him to sleep instead of going to bed. The banter was still really good; Emma is a very witty character.
This manga is a breath of fresh air with romance for sure. It seems so sweet an innocent, where both MCs are good people with good intentions.
I can't wait to see their relationship to continue to grow in the next volume!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

As if Volume 1 wasn't good enough, Volume 2 was so cute, a relationship so pure and respectful I find myself craving for more.
It's so fun when she teases him and his face turns red. Emma has such a unique way of looking at things, her thinking and behaviour are so different and amusing I too like him would find myself looking at her. Like the time she drew lines around her moles and called it a constellation. And that one time she talked about souls and hearts, it was so poetic and touching and random haha.
He is so caring and patient and fun like that one time Emma was mad and didn't like the smell of normal flowers he bought tobacco flowers. One time Emma has a dream where she touched his hair, he let her touch it in real life so non chalantly. And it's so funny he's anxious to leave her alone.
All in all this was a really cute and unique read. Do give this a try and definitely read volume 1 first to know how they met.

Thank you for the ARC!
The second volume is as lovely as the first one. Emma is truly beautiful in this one. I love the illustrations in between chapters. We explore their relationships and interactions even more in this volume. We can really see how close they are and it is really cute.

In this second volume of blind heiress turned secretary(?) and a police officer, we realize that they are living together and they dance around the subject of romance. It is much like the first one with small vignettes into their daily lives, interspersed with illustrations of them in clothing or doing a singular action (like photos). There is as camera in this one and our heiress has fun with it, discussing how she sees the world.
Again, it is beautiful and a specific reader is going to love this. I am that reader and would love to have these someday to revisit again and again.

The second volume of this manga series leaves me breathless. The fashion, the passion, the romance! The art is as stunning as ever and I'm thrilled with each page's visuals. The FMC (Emma) wears awe-inspiring outfits that fully embrace the full-color format.
This manga has swiftly become one of my favorites, but if you don't enjoy slow romantic plots in a slice-of-life style, then this series is not for you. The growing tension between our two protagonists is gently simmering, creating a delicious slow-burn romance. In my opinion, let them cook.

The flirtation continues! I enjoyed Veil Vol. 2 better than Vol. 1 because I understood what was happening from the start. It was cute and I love watching the two characters interact. It made me happy. I look forward to reading the other volumes!

After volume 1 I RAN to read volume 2.
This is a quick read romance that is super short.
Our FMC, Emma, & our MMC, Alexander are so cute and flirty at times. Volume 2 shows more of their lives and build up of their relationship. He is a big green flag who cares for her and can be a bit jealous over her. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just let you go ahead and read it.
I'm looking forward to the next volumes!!!
Thank you so much, NetGalley & Udon Entertainment, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When I finished reading the first volume, I rushed to the second, and the truth is, when I finished it, I wished I had five more volumes.
The story itself is simple, and like the first part, it doesn't tell us much about the characters, although we do get a vague idea. And I don't think it's necessary to understand and grow fond of these characters and their beautiful love story.
Give me more, I want more... I NEED MORE!
Thank you so much, Udon Entertainment, for the ARC I read through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Veil
-police officer & runaway heiress (blind)
-only 2 year age gap
-quick read
-romance, josei, slice of life
-There are 6 volumes so there is time for a lot to happen between 2 and 6.
As mentioned with volume 1, you can sense their relationship building and their flirty moments. Still enjoyed their wholesome moments as we gradually see them gradually become closer. Emma definitely is more aggressive with her flirting than Alexander, but you can see his jealousy and trying to hold back. A few moments that stuck with me, one (technically two) when she wakes him up early and he goes along with it. He is a big green flag and can tell how much he cares for her- which you can also tell how the heiress feels as well.
Above I mentioned it is a quick read and you will fly through it once you are hooked. For me, I think I was really immersed in it after scene 2/3 of volume 1. I will say as soon as I woke up and saw I was approved to read volume 2, I read it immediately.

Similarly to Volume 1, this visually striking book excels in its artwork, featuring soft, expressive illustrations that create a strong atmospheric appeal. Each page is crafted with care, making the reading experience aesthetically pleasing. However, the narrative falls short, as the fragmented storytelling and underdeveloped plot leave the characters’ journey feeling disjointed and unsatisfying.
While the romantic dynamic between the policeman and the runaway heiress has tender moments—particularly in its thoughtful portrayal of her disability—the overall story lacks cohesion. The book’s beauty lies in its visuals and fleeting emotional beats, but those hoping for a compelling, well-structured plot may be left wanting more.

This is one of the best manga licenses we've ever gotten in the US, and I won't change my mind on that!
Another incredible volume! So much so, that I went back and read it all over again because the TENSION between these two is incredible!
I guess one could maybe say "sexual" tension, but I don't necessarily think that's true? There is just something so compelling drawn in the way these characters touch each other and even the expressions they have. They give off this aura(?) where you're holding your breath because you don't know how the other is going to respond to them touching their hand or leg, so you catch yourself leaning more because you're afraid if you even blink, you'll miss the subtle change in expression or body language. Really really compelling storytelling and art that I really cannot get enough of!
Granted I would be lying if I didn't admit that I STRONGLY ship these two and hope and look forward to their relationship going forward in a romantic direction, but even if it doesn't, I would still feel satisfied reading this series.
I am once again HIGHLY recommending Veil, especially if you love a focus on incredible art! This is definitely a series that needs to be on everyone's TBR!
*(I received an e-copy via NetGally, but have this physically on preorder. All thoughts expressed are my own.)*

My goodness, these two!
They're in their own little bubble, and I love it. They're so cute together.
I would love to see more of them, as this story so far focuses on small moments from their everyday life.
Honestly, I thought they were already lovers after reading the first volume, but it seems that’s not the case yet.
Still, that subtle flirting is everything!
I’m definitely going to buy physical copies for my collection.
Thanks to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for sharing a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a beautiful second volume. The art, minimal prose, and characters are so enchanting and charming it’s hard to not read this all in one go. Truly, this is art and passion in such a raw form, and it’s lovely. Eager to experience the other English volumes as they come out!

Just like Volume 1, there was no backstory or introduction to the characters, so it was virtually impossible to tell what the hell was going on. So while the art was interesting, the story was pretty much non-existent.

Volume 2 of Veil continues where Volume 1 left off with the building of the relationship between Aleksander and Emma through vignettes opposed to continuous plot. Despite there being no continuous plot, I find this read enjoyable from the content in it and simply the talent displayed by Kotteri in the beautiful illustrations. If you are simply just reading the text in the manga it will not take long to complete but I would recommend taking time to enjoy the illustrations.
If you are interested in an easy read, endearing story and amazing illustrations I would whole-heartedly recommend picking this up for a read!
Thank you to Udon Entertainment and NetGalley for this arc!

Volume 2 didn't disappoint. The story continued, still full of endearing moments and quick snapshots of their lives together. I really do love these and can't wait to collect them.

There was he - an-on duty police officer in the city. There was she - a runaway heiress. Now, They - coworkers, friends, players of their own stage - share their lives: moments in the street, pieces of time stolen between the dawn and the dusk. She feels the world around her, and he learns what he loves in it through watching her. Not a tale with a beginning and end, but a tale told through look-backs, and snatched through the day's haze, "Veil: Calming Noir" will pull you out of the flow and bustle of life into the gauze-soaked caress of a life lived in moments.
"Veil: Calming Noir" continues the meandering story of He and She, as they continue to adjust in their new roles: She, an heiress-turned-receptionist, and He, her willing coworker and companion, take crisp walks through small markets, blur the lines between friends and lovers in and out of their shared spaces, and otherwise enjoy each other and the dream-like city they find themselves embellished within. The tug and pull of the proverbial veil is just as enticing as the first volume, and there are a few more snippets of background and plot here, but the ephemeral quality of the art and the exposition is just as alluring as the first book and is quickly becoming a hallmark of this series. If you've seen He and She online and always wondered what their full story was, now's you're change to get lost in it!
Thank you to NetGalley, Udon Entertainment, and Kotteri for an Advanced Reader's Copy of this title!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
I already said it in my last review for the first volume, but I can't stop praising this work.
If you're looking for something easy to read, that's also touching with pretty (amazing) art and illustrations, then you should definitely check out "Veil".
I love the main characters so much and how they treat each other. Alexander, for example, is very protective of Emma, but never treats her as if she was broken because of her blindness or that she can't do things on her own. He lets her live freely while still keeping an eye on her (and he helps her if she needs it), if that makes sense.
Their relationship is truly precious and I'm excited to read more and to finally see them cross the line of being "friends".
I'd recommend "Veil" to everyone, even to people who normally wouldn't read manga, it's just so good in my opinion.
