Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review. This book was magical from the beautiful writing, strong characters and great story. You fly through her books and leave enchanted. I have been reading her books for a while and will continue to read them going forward
Very cool idea for a book, and an excellent execution of that idea. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Recommended. .
I really enjoyed this book. It is a nice, feel good book with great characters! Sarah Addison Allen is now one of my new favorite authors!
I look forward to reading more by this author!
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I was unable to read this before it expired. Please accept my apologies. I hope to read more books later.
I'm not usually a fan of magical realism (in fact, my tastes have veered off into science fiction and dystopian novels as of late, oddly enough) but Sarah Addison Allen's books always suck me right in and make me incredibly happy. "First Frost" is no different- it's charming, but not cloying, the characters are realistic enough that I can relate to them without getting frustrated with them, and the plot kept me invested but not distraught. If you need a little escape from reality, but want to read something that isn't pure fluff, "First Frost" is perfect. It's a book you will return to.
Highly recommended.
Another wonderful book about the Waverley women! We are brought into the world of Claire, Sydney, and Bay, and what a charming and wonderful one it is! I loved the story of these women!
While this book is considered women's fiction, it had more of a young adult feel throughout the first 1/3 of the novel. First Frost is written with the 15-year-old main character in mind, a young teenager who is falling for a guy in her school, Josh. She knows he belongs with her, and that she belongs at Waverly. Because that is what she knows best - where things and people belong.
After a while, it becomes clear, that this is absolutely a grown up book, but it takes its time to get to the more heavy part, the more mature subject matter, of love, relationship, the longing to belong, and dealing with being different. Because that is what the Waverly women are - different, with unique gifts that make them stand out, in the small town
they reside in.
I really enjoyed this book, especially, once it picked up in speed a little. It was like a warm, welcome hug, a family one would love to be a part of. Well, at least, I would not have minded being a part of this magical family.
If you are looking for a lot of action, this is not the book for you, but if you are interested in relationships, and the dynamics that make a family, a family, while adding a little bit of fantasy, then you should read First Frost.
A truly charming novel.
