Tell Me About Juneteenth, written by Kortney Nash and narrated by Melinda Sewak is a sweet but educational book told by a young girl experiencing a Juneteenth celebration. She loves her experience, but wants to know more about what Juneteenth means, and what the first Juneteenth was like. She is able to find out from family, friends, and neighbors what their experiences have been, and what they can celebrate and remember. I loved how this book was written at an age appropriate level, for young readers to learn about Juneteenth, and what it was like. I appreciated how the examples of celebrations were shared, and how the children were able to learn about their history. I definitely recommend this book for young readers to be able to learn about a Juneteenth celebrations! Thank you to NetGalley and to the author, publisher, and narrator of this book for an ALC in exchange for an honest review of this book.

Through engaging storytelling! This high-quality audiobook production has full musical soundtrack, sounds of kids playing outside, grilling sounds, conversation background noises, all of which play underneath the narration of Melinda Sewak. Melinda has a rich and melodious voice, which manges to convey building excitement and joy very thoroughly.
This takes place at a recent Juneteenth neighborhood celebration. There are kids playing and families barbecuing, tables set up selling incense and jewelry with a real festival atmosphere. This talks quite a bit about traditional Black Juneteenth foods and drinks, like red drink and red beans and rice.
This educates about the first Juneteenth using age appropriate language and why this holiday exists. I love that this focuses on how Juneteenth celebrations started and how they've evolved over the decades into recent years. This is an important holiday that's only been legal a few short years. This gives facts and focuses on freedom but only mentions slavery very lightly without exactly defining what it was to be enslaved. This is appropriate for young kids.

I thought this was a good introduction of the history of how Juneteenth has been celebrated from today to the first Juneteenth for children. I thought the framing of a child asking questions to those around her kept the story very engaging for young listeners.

Wonderful, enthusiastic introduction to this important holiday. Readers learn the origins and how the celebration has changed over time. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook
