This was a very cute book. My toddler loved the illustrations and it was an easy, fun read right before bed. Story wise I felt like it was missing something, I just can't put my finger on it. Overall, I think the lesson it teaches about not giving up is important for kids and it doesn't hurt as an adult to get the reminder :)

If you are starting to build a reading habit to your little ones, especially for very young children, say 1 year olds who don't necessarily have the patience to sit through long books, then Peg Gets Plucky is for you! You will love it! It is just the right length to emote and enact the story with emotions and excitement to your kids and yet wrap up the book quickly, especially when you have had a long, tiring day. My 4 YOs certainly liked it. My Daughter is extremely competitive by nature, so at first she didn't like the fact that Peg gets left behind. However, by the end of the book, she came around. At one point, where Peg struggles to climb over a tree trunk with her short legs, we stopped and thought and talked about it. My daughter feels similarly overwhelmed and frustrated when she cannot climb stairs as fast as older friends. All in all, it was an excellent opportunity for me to discuss that perseverance matters a lot in all our endeavours! I would highly recommend this book to parents of very young children!

Peg is not a chicken chicken! Such a fun read. Children will love this beautifully illustrated little story about a brave little chicken on an adventure. Great for home and the classroom.

Such an adorable story of a little chick who has a hard time keeping up with his friends because of his size. As a preschool teacher, I really appreciated the use of opposites throughout the book as it creates opportunities for the students to learn about different vocabulary words and what they might mean. A game could also be played where they have to figure out what the opposite of the words in the book are. Another theme the runs through the book is perseverance as there are moments where the chick feels like he can't do anything because of his size. Eventually he does catch up with his friends and is rewarded at the end.

I really enjoyed this one! I think that the art style that Renfro uses is really great for animal centric stories. I also really like the message of this book, about being brave and going on adventures despite all of the things surrounding you that are difficult and challenging. I think the frightened child me would be comforted by this story. I definitely think this is a great one and I hope Renfro’s work gets out there.

This adorable book is about an excited little chick setting off on an adventure with friends. Things get tough and she has to look inside herself and discover her courage and tenacity. There are few words, but the ones used are impactful and the illustrations are absolutely fantastic. I am sure this will be a frequently read book at our house.

Thank you Netgalley for sending me an eARC of this. I didn’t even realize ARC reading children’s books was a thing, but my child asked to read books on my phone/kindle so I went looking…

I read this with my 4 year old, and it was a hit! The illustrations are adorable, the story was cute and I loved the message of bravery, courage and resilience.

According to my child when I asked her after finishing the book - the pictures were pretty but the scary forest was really scary 🤷🏻‍♀️ (she showed no signs of being scared while we were reading it)…

Peg gets about a cute, brave chicken who is ready to go on adventures. However soon when joined by other banyard animals, she realises that adventure is filled with challenging situations and tough trails.

Can Peg learn to overcome these obstacles and believe that she is capable of doing it?

A fantastic and beautiful picture book that focuses on bravery, resilience and courage. This book has thoughtfully explored morals that will surely encourage young readers to understand these good habits. The illustrations are adorable and chirpy. I loved this book and I cannot wait to read more about Peg's adventures in the future.

Peg Gets Plucky is a cute picture book about not giving up when things are hard. It is a very simple read with few words. Narratively, I felt like it was lacking something, but I really enjoyed the lesson it teaches and my children enjoyed it.

The sentences are short and simple. They offer repetitive structure which is great for beginner readers.

The pictures were bright and fun and did a great job filling in the story.

Peg proves her pluck in this whimsically illustrated book. Her adventure takes her to some difficult, scary places. But in the end, her willingness to keep trying gets her to the final destination! Good story to teach “I can do hard things.”

This book is all about being brave, adventures, and friendship.

Peg the chick and her farmyard buddies are going on an adventure, Peg can't wait! As the adventure starts, Peg wants to give up. I'm too small! It's too cold! It's too scary! Peg has to be brave and find the courage to keep up with her friends on their fun adventure.

There may not be many words, but the words that are there perfectly convey the story. The illustrations work so well, and I absolutely love little Peg's expressions.

A very fun book, we will definitely be reading this one again when we need a little courage.

Peg Gets Plucky is about a spunky chick named Peg who feels up to a big adventure with her barnyard friends. With each obstacle presented on her adventure, Peg perseveres and overcomes them with ease. The book is a simple, but cute read with cozy illustrations and a fun plot. I really enjoyed it, and will be reading it with my kiddo at bedtime tonight.

Thank you 'beaming books' for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

In a way that could easily be thought of as too simplistic, this very early read shows us a young chicken on an adventure with its farmyard friends – until it doubts that it can cope with the whole thing – but it shows it with a fine style, and a decent amount of levity and cuteness and drama all combined. So narratively we're not onto anything original, but there is much appeal in the way the old familiar lesson has been brought to the page. A strong four stars.
