Following the crime reporter, Mari Alvarez, through the streets and underbelly of Tampa Bay while both eluding and trailing a dangerous killer, takes the reader on a whirlwind of a mystery thriller. A "ghost from the past" shows up at the Gasparilla pirate festival with a diabolical plan to hurt Mari by targeting those she loves. What is different about his plan is the use of AI in his attempt to incriminate Mari as his co-conspirator, even as she is his ultimate target. The detectives trying to keep Mari safe and find this killer also use advanced AI skills in their policing methods, which is all very interesting to learn about! Working together with what Mari knows about this psychotic, vengeful killer, the detectives weave a plan that they hope will catch this demon. Mari Alvarez is in the Gasparilla pirate festival parade when shots are heard. Mari sees a coworker shot among others. She grabs the microphone and asks for medics. She warns the crowd to get down due to the gunshots. Another voice yells active shooter, run. Mari believes that the shooter is the serial killer she helped “bust” has returned seeking revenge. She checks her cell phone and the message reveals that it is him. Supposedly this shooter is dead until she got messages telling her that he wants to kill her. She had warned her boss and the police chief that this might happen but they called it a false alarm. Will she be ae able to stop him before he kills everyone she holds dear? or will the serial killer get his revenge?

The aythor has written a suspenseful novel. It kept me on thedge of my seat as I read this novel. The excellent pacing of the novel made it difficult to stop reading. I had not read her two earlier novels of this series(?) but plan to do so. I enjoyed the novel and think that this was find as a stand-alone novel. My advice is read it!

This is a thriller, it seems even more scary by the use of modern technology. I'm not sure if the AI systems used here are true or not, but it's so creepy to think how believable it is. They make me want to put covers over all the cameras and possible microphones in my possession.
This book is part of a series with this heroine. You can read this on it's own, but you will appreciate our heroine better if you have read the previous one. The excitement starts on the first page and continues non stop through the whole story. There is a lot of danger and not just for the heroine. I'm hoping that the series continues.
Very exciting.

Okay, this book was addicting from the very first page! There was never a dull moment as the action and suspense was firing on all cylinders from the beginning of this story.

We follow Mari, a strong and fearless crime reporter who is known for bringing these vicious criminals to light. Only, she gets more than she signed up for when her most infamous criminal seemingly returns from beyond the grave with a certain bone to pick.

Everyone had previously thought that this monster had perished in a fire, yet when he begins stalking Mari and a game of cat and mouse quickly ensues, it’s made clear that Hanks is on a mission for revenge.

While this suspenseful and twisted labyrinth starts to unfold, we also get to see Detective Tony, Mari’s romantic interest, who is not always the best at expressing his feelings. You could feel the chemistry between these two and I loved watching their story grow deeper!

With plenty of lovable side characters like Orlando, Matt (aka Gift From God ha!) Izzy and more, this book has got it all! I love a thriller that keeps the twists and turns coming and I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I didn’t want to put it down!

Thank you so much to the author and Entangled Publishing for providing me with this eARC in exchange for my honest review! 🫶🏻

Linda Hurtado Bond concludes her 'All the Girls trilogy with *All the Captive Girls*, a thrilling and suspenseful book that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the last page.

This fast-paced thriller starts at the Gasparilla pirate festival in Tampa Bay, adding excitement to the story. Researching the festival helped me visualize the chaos and thrill of Mari’s situation.

The story follows a seemingly dead serial killer seeking revenge on Mari and her loved ones. Known as the “phantom pirate,” he forces Mari to play a dangerous game to protect those she cares about. With the help of her friend, a local detective, and Detective Tony Garcia, Mari faces perilous choices along the way.

I really appreciated how Ms. Hurtado Bond wove modern elements, like social media and AI, into the killer's scheme, making the story feel timely and relevant. As Mari navigates various challenges, we get to witness her vulnerability, as well as Garcia's supportive nature, and her confusion about her feelings for him, particularly when she flirts with another detective. Throughout her journey, Mari discovers the importance of embracing her true self rather than constantly seeking validation from others.

The book is filled with surprises that kept me on my toes. When I thought I had it all figured out, new twists threw me for a loop and made me question who I could trust. With its suspense, historical vibes, and non-stop action, it’s a fun read.

I highly recommend *All the Captive Girls* to anyone looking for an exciting adventure filled with rich history and gripping suspense.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for providing this book for review.

An exciting read!
Mari gets herself into so many scrapes I found myself holding my breath to see what happened.
It’s a dizzying array of cat and mouse via modern electronics and gadgetry.
It also gives readers a glimpse at police procedures.
Mari had a bit of a death wish in their book but ultimately realized she had more to love for than to die for.

Very grateful to the publisher for my copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own

In All the Captive Girls, Mari Alvarez, a crime reporter, finds herself targeted by a serial killer she thought was dead. As the Gasparilla pirate festival unfolds in Tampa Bay, Mari must navigate a dangerous game of revenge that threatens everything she holds dear.
While the plot is entertaining, I found the character dynamics lacking. The romantic tension felt forced, especially between Mari and Detective Tony Garcia, while her connection with flirtatious Matt seemed more genuine. The portrayal of her friends and sister also felt frustratingly nonchalant given the dire circumstances.
However, Bond’s exploration of AI and social media added an intriguing layer to the story. The fast-paced action kept me engaged, and the vivid setting brought the festival to life. Overall, it’s an enjoyable read with strong suspense but not as memorable as I hoped.

Mari, news reporter. At it again when chaos strikes. She knows who the perp is but no one believes her.

Especially when videos keep surfacing that paint a different story and it isn’t a good one…

A thriller about a race against time, following your intuition, and how creepily involved AI has become in all things daily in our lives.

Out today! If that’s your jam don’t hesitate to scoop it on up! Happy pub day!

For me personally it just didn’t capitavate me like other thriller books have in the past.

It’s got some very good components, twists and turns just not enough for me.

As always, thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for trusting me to read and leave my honest review. It’s always an honor.

Crime reporter Mari Alvarez was ready to put her past behind her and live her life. That is, until a killer, Hanks, that everyone thought was deceased, contacts her. Now he’s determined to go after her and everyone she loves. But it won’t be so easy for her to find him – he wants revenge and he’s hiding in plain sight. It starts at the pirate festival and continues through other events. Between making her a hero and then making her a villain, he proves that he can control her job and her reputation. Unless she comes up with a plan to catch him, he could take everyone she loves.

Right from the beginning, this book is action packed with a lot of suspense. I absolutely love Mari. She’s fearless, strong, intelligent, and caring. She stops at nothing to make sure that those she loves are safe. She puts herself in danger for the greater good. She also can be vulnerable too. She is just a very well rounded character, easily likeable, easy to root for, and just very well written.

I really liked the cat and mouse of this story as well. Hanks plays the game very well. He is coy and cunning. He always has a way to let her know that he’s close by without being seen. He had a way luring Mari out to these public events even though she knew something bad was going to happen. It felt like he was going to always continuously outsmart her.

There wasn’t a dull moment in this book. And just when you think that you have it all figured out, how Mari was going to catch Hanks, there is a wrench in her plans, a twist, that is going to change everything. It was really good!!! So thriller lovers, get your hands on this book today!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest book in the series by Linda Hurtado Bond. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4.5 stars!

When we catch up with Tampa Bay crime reporter Mari Alvarez, she thought she had survived the worst and life would go back to normal. But then a killer everyone thought was dead contacts her and starts a cat-and-mouse game where a loss will mean the end of everything she loves.

I have enjoyed this series, made more realistic by the fact that Linda Hurtado Bond is a crime reporter. This was a tense thriller where you didn't know who you could trust or what was going to happen around the next corner. I felt for Mari as she was in a no win situation, plus I was anxious to see if the relationship between her and Tony, a police officer, would solidify. What added so much to this story was the possibility of what AI could do and how you couldn't trust pictures or videos. A scary premise made more so by its reality. I'd like to hope there are more books to come, but this was a great series.

Thank you so much @thrillerbookloversthepulse, @entangledpublishingllc and @netgalley for the copy of this eARC!

From the very first page, this book pulls you in with its fast pace and heart-pounding action. It’s a thrilling ride that keeps you on edge from start to finish! Set against the vibrant backdrop of Tampa Bay’s Gasparilla Pirate Festival, the story is bursting with energy and tension. I wasn’t familiar with the festival before, so I took a moment to research it, and that really helped me picture the chaos and excitement surrounding Mari’s harrowing experience. Plus, it was fun learning about Gasparilla in the process.

A serial killer, thought to be dead, has resurfaced, driven by a thirst for revenge against Mari and her loved ones. Known as the “phantom pirate,” he’s always one step ahead, trapping Mari in a deadly game where her only chance to protect those she cares about is to follow his rules. With the help of her loyal friend and videographer, a determined local detective, and her steady partner—Detective Tony Garcia—Mari must navigate a dangerous path filled with lies, betrayal, and impossible decisions.

The twists in this story kept me on my toes. Just when I thought I had the mystery figured out, new revelations turned everything upside down, making me second-guess everyone’s motives. The suspense, historical details, and relentless action made it impossible to put down.

It was also fascinating to learn more about AI and how it can ruin a person's life. I know I’ll never look at my cellphone—or any electronic device—the same way again.
A must-read for fans of mysteries and thrillers who crave unexpected twists!

“ you never know what’s going on in a person’s mind. You may think you know someone. You may hope and pray to understand a person, but what lives in the space between their ears often remains secret. You will never have access. Unless they give it to you willingly’

‘All the Captive Girls’ was action packed and had me hooked from the first page. We meet Mari Alvarez, a reporter who is being targeted by a killer everyone thought was dead. There are a number of twists and turns throughout the book that had me nervous for Mari and her friends. This is the second book in a series but was the first book that I read. While I was still able to follow the story, I recommend reading the first book for additional context. Thanks NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the eARC.

This fast-paced thriller grabs your attention from the very first page and doesn’t let go! Tampa Bay crime reporter Mari Alvarez finds herself in a deadly game when a sniper opens fire during the Gasparilla Children’s Parade, using her live broadcast to deliver his chilling message. The twist? The killer is someone Mari believed to be dead—and he’s targeting everyone she loves.

The setting is immersive, with the vibrant culture of Tampa and the chaos of the Gasparilla Festival brought vividly to life. The parade scenes are so intense and well-written that I felt like I was there, caught up in the action. The suspense is relentless, with every twist and turn leaving me suspicious of everyone. I found myself racing through the pages, desperate for answers but careful not to miss any subtle clues.

Mari is a compelling protagonist, juggling her journalist instincts with the mounting danger to her loved ones. She’s aided by a loyal videographer, a dependable police detective who may be more than a friend, and a cocky state law enforcement officer who adds tension and intrigue. Together, they work to unmask the “phantom pirate” manipulating social media and video to twist the truth and force Mari into submission.

This book is a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. The blend of action, mystery, and suspense is perfectly executed, and I can’t wait to see what the next installment has in store! Highly recommended for fans of fast-paced, high-stakes crime fiction. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.

This a fast paced thriller that will have you hooked right from the start. There are some great twists and turns and I loved the cat/mouse vibes I got from the story. We get this great tension and sense of suspense throughout the story.

This is the second book I have read with these characters and I can’t get enough of Mari (and a certain detective!) We have really seen Mari grow - she is so relatable and easy to root for.

I liked how the author used technology (think AI, deepfakes, etc.) to tell the story. I also really liked the Tampa setting!
