This book is a decent beginners guide to arguments that have ranged for centuries about the bodily resurrection of Christ. It's worth noting that few other historical events are subjected to such scrutiny and, while the resurrection cannot be proved with scientific evidence it remains the best conclusion given how it's recorded and what follows. Bear in mind that the earliest copy of Julius Caesar 's Gallic Wars scroll is about 1000 years older and few doubt it records the truth (and Caesar did eventually claim to be divine btw!)

No Jesus didn't swoon, no, there was not a mass hallucination, and while people do die for a lie (suicide bombers, certain terrorists for instance) ; the disciples would be in a position to know they were lying when death was threatened. There simply isn't a better explanation: Jesus rose from the dead - court cases have been decided on lesser circumstantial evidence!

I do wish the book got the grittier details in: no mention, for instance, of the trained guards at the tomb who the disciples would have to get past to steal the body (another theory). So, a good intro but you'll need to read elsewhere for a deeper analysis.
