Danica and Erza have been on my mind nearly 24/7 since i finished this book weeks ago.
lana always hits the spot with her books, i’m always hooked and obsessed with the plot. This might now be my favorite book by her!!
I’m currently being one of those annoying people who email the published begging for a physical arc because that’s how much i loved this one.
i never read a plot like this one and i just truly am so shocked at how fast i ate this one up!!

Opening with a hate sex scene is a bold, bold move. In Overruled, opposing counselors Danica and Ezra have an ongoing hook up, in spite of Dani's insistence that each time with Ezra that it will be the last time. They face off in the courtroom over a particularly messy divorce case involving an heiress out to prove the prenup was violated by her husband's infidelity. The rival lawyers each have a vested interest in the case: Dani is promised a shot at junior partner if she wins, while Ezra is trying to stay on his boss's/father's good side to protect his mother and make the family business look good. They also each have their complicated family situations that make them anti-commitment: Dani's parents shocked her with a revelation they were just friends with benefits who got knocked up by mistake, divorcing when she was nearly an adult and remaining best friends; Ezra's parents are still together, but seem to live separate lives in the same house. Both make their living as divorce lawyers--how can Dani and Ezra expect to believe in love, given their careers and role models? Still, the attraction has been there from day one. Dani fights it by hating how hot, smart, and perfect Ezra is; and he seems to love getting her all riled up, pushing her buttons until the insults and snark fly free.
Fast-paced banter and spicy, control-laced sex is balanced with accurate, turn-based courtroom drama. I found the writing redundant, and am chalking it up to poor editing: Dani repeats her angsting over Ezra, rehashing it in her head, with friends, and with him; she also says over and over how much she wants to be a powerful woman like the client she's representing. I found the sex scenes unoriginal, with little discussion, a lot of mind-reading, and flirting with power play but not committing to it, like, say, Deep End. Perfect for fans of The Hating Game, Love at First Spite, or anything by Lynn Painter, this book delivers a brutal enemies-to-lovers romance --which is why I didn't love it. I can't get behind calling your lover an asshole in most cases, but especially not after I love you's are exchanged. There's nothing affectionate about it.
I received a free, advance readers review copy of #Overruled via #NetGalley courtesy of #Berkley in return for a fair and honest review. A review will post to HLBB in June 2025.

Overruled is an enemies to lovers romance about two rival divorce lawyers, Dani and Ezra. They often find themselves on opposite sides in the courtroom and have a frienimes-with-benefits based relationship outside of work. The novel follows them as they represent different sides of a high profile divorce case and navigate their complicated feelings for one another.
I thought Ezra’s family situation was a bit over the top and was frustrated with Dani’s stubbornness at times, but overall I liked the dialogue and chemistry between characters, and found the ending satisfying.
I’d recommend this book to fans of Ali Hazelwood’s Love on the Brain and The Hating Game by Sally Green because of the enemies to lovers/workplace rivals/he falls first aspects. It also has some similarities to another ARC that I read recently, Not Safe for Work, although that one is based at an engineering firm.

Another 5 Star read from Lana Ferguson! I was hooked on plot from the very beginning and was actually disappointed I couldn't stay home and binge read this fantastic book.
Danica and Ezra are divorce attorneys each representing separating spouses in a high stakes lawsuit that can make or break Dani's chance to make partner at her firm. The two have a good banter back and forth, the tension growing in and outside of the courtroom. Dani seems determined that each time they meet will be their last, however the two are drawn back to each other time and time again.
Ezra soon realizes his growing feelings for Danica outweigh his father's determination to win the divorce case with using nefarious and ultimately, criminal practices.
This book was the epitome of enemies to lovers and workplace rivals tropes. The book had a great plot, hard-headed FMC, and sweet MMC that I wished to know more about.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read an upcoming release from one of my favorite authors.

I really liked the banter between Ezra and Dani. Going from f-buddies to friends to lovers was cute and funny and the spice was just the right amount.
Unfortunately, the law element of the story was kind of boring. A lot of back and forths and the big reveal was quite anticlimactic.
Also- on a potential continuity note: Bianca is fighting for her fair share in a divorce that has a prenup. But when her backstory is shared, Lorenzo had no money when they got married and her money was in a trust. Why would they have had a prenup? And if they did, it would be to protect her not him since he came to the marriage with nothing. I kept hoping the author would circle back on this.

Lana Ferguson has very quickly become a must-read author for me. While I love all of her books, I enjoyed this foray into the legal (human) world. I don't mind a werewolf here and there, but having a less fantastical book was a fun reprieve!
The banter between these two characters is top-tier. It really is very similar to "The Hating Game" which is an all-time favorite of mine.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

And this my friends is the reason why I don't ever trust lawyers.

Forgot to add this so here we are. Thank you Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for this early copy I love you so much 💋🫶🏻

This is my second favorite book by LF, and I just really loved the plot, law aspect, and all the other family drama. I think this is the most developed LF character has ever been, and I loved how much it delved into their pasts and the emotional development both characters go through. Immediately when the book starts the mcs are in a work rivals situationship and I loved it so much. It's in dual pov and both mcs are in opposing councils in a divorce trial that turns into so much more. I loved seeing the romance developed from purely sexual to feelings especially with the fmc who is the grumpier of the two. The smut was good and I liked seeing them discover more about each other and be drawn into each other emotionally. There is also a family drama plot that was touching and I was invested in. I hated the mmcs dad so much. Overall this was a good fast paced and steamy romcom that I enjoyed a lot.
4.25/5

I'm a big fan of lana ferguson spice and character work plus the chemistry, especially the chemistry and this is no different. I just think this one shot itself in the foot by being a little too good at the beginning and the rest of it can't possibly match to the excellent 20-30%
still a very good one from lana ferguson

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for this eARC!
Danica and Ezra are at each other’s throats as opposing divorce attorneys by day, but by night, they are each other’s sexy, hate filled booty calls!
Danica is up for a partnership position at her law firm and needs to win this important case to prove she’s ready for the promotion. The only problem is, she’s up against Ezra and his family’s toxic firm that stops at nothing to win.
During the course of the case, Danica realizes she does have deeper feelings for Ezra instead of just someone good for hate sex. Her character growth between this and her family issues are great! Ezra also has some troubling family circumstances that he’s able to overcome and I fist pumped and jumped for joy when he stepped up and kicked them to the curb !
Lana Ferguson can do no wrong!

10/10. This book was so good. The author is always great at spice, but she really nailed all of my favorites in this. Banter, rivals to lovers, reverse grumpy sunshine. It doesn't hurt that Mr. Sunshine is also a soft top. I appreciate the digital arc!

I have been dying to read this book. Lana has been teasing us endlessly on Instagram regarding Overruled. So you already know that I dropped everything that I was reading so I could read Overruled ASAP. And I was not disappointed at all with Overruled.
Overruled is a spicy romance read, so don’t be surprised with the spicy scenes. It has always been marketed as a spicy romance read, especially on Lana's Instagram page. If you aren’t into spicy romance books, then you don’t have to read this book. Putting it out there so there won’t be discourse.
Now for my fellow spicy romance readers, you are going to be fed with Overruled. Lana outdid herself with Overruled. It’s the perfect balance of spicy and fluffy romance in this book. I literally devour it in one sitting. It was such a fun spicy romance read! It does contain a bit of heavy topics, so be warned.
Let’s get back to Danica and Ezra's insane chemistry with each other. They may be rivals with each other, but Danica and Ezra do have undeniable chemistry. And off the bat, Danica and Ezra have been hooking up with each other in secret. Yup, the tension between their secret relationship heightened the spice so much more. Ezra has a dirty mouth! Love it!!! Especially when Ezra starts to have deeper feelings for Danica and wants more than a secret hookup. The messiness is about to come through, lol.

What do you do when you just love to hate them? Well you sleep with them obviously, over and over again.
Classic enemies to lovers which never disappoints, powerful people who have been fighting their feelings for each other, Danica and Ezra are opposing counsel on a case that has them spending a lot of time together… in and outside of the courtroom.

Thank you for the free book, Berkley Romance!
Two powerhouse attorneys who can’t stand one another in the courtroom secretly meet for just one more after hours rendezvous. Dani tells Ezra each time that this is the last time, but she can’t seem to help herself. When they are up against one another in a very important trial, they each start to get to know one another and realize they might not be enemies after all.
I am a huge Lana Ferguson fan- I’ve read all her books and will continue to because I know I’m in for a good time. No one writes banter and spicy moments like she does! I’ve said it before and will say it a hundred times- enemies to lovers is the superior trope. I just can’t get enough! The banter, the denial of feelings, and flip of the switch- it’s so good. In this book, that combined with the office romance makes it an irresistible combination. It really begins with a bang too (sorry, I had to)! I also loved the supporting characters and some of the depth that Lana managed to add to the storyline by having the characters work through family trauma. If you enjoy workplace romance, enemies to lovers, he falls first, and banter, this is the book for you!

I love it when romance authors cannot only make it spicy, but also include heartwarming family moments and show different relationships as well! Keep up the good work! I’ll definitely be back for more!

Lana does it again! Rivals to lovers mixed with fighting feelings vibes. It’s well paced layered with family drama.
Asshole + Sour Patch 4 lyfe.

4/5
Two divorce lawyers at opposing firms tempt a no strings attached hookup while competing to win cases in the latest from romance powerhouse Lana Ferguson. Danica Pierce is married to her work, Ezra Hart is determined to prove himself in his father’s firm and the only thing that keeps the two of them sane day to day is their mutual antagonism—that and jumping into bed when the day is out. When Danica is handed a case that could make her career, it is her secret relationship with Ezra that could wreck the entire case before it even makes its way to court. But Ezra is unexpectedly a real ally and their simmering tension in the office and compatibility in the bedroom masks a relationship that could be worth taking to trial. Overruled is good, hot, hate to love fun packaged in a workplace rivalry brimming with sexual tension. As Ferguson opens on her leads already far into hookup territory, what Danica and Ezra are really fighting are the feelings flowing beneath their mutually agreed upon rivalry. I’m a big fan of he fell first and fell hardest, which was the entire character of Ezra Hart in a nutshell. Ezra just wants to be seen as more than just the rival, but Danica is a little more tough to crack in that regard. Stubborn women being romanced because of their cold exteriors and their ambition is so important to me. Seeing what Danica had been through in the past only reinforced the need for real romancing on Ezra’s part to win her over. I really enjoyed where things settled vis a vis the career making divorce case, and Ezra and Danica’s respective families. Nothing unites two people more than being in cahoots and Overruled took that to heart in drawing this story to a close. Overruled is rivals to lovers excellence and undeniably the best from Ferguson to date.

First let me start off with saying a Huge thank you to Netgally and the Publisher for this opportunity. I am absolutely in love with Lana Ferguson's writing!! My favorite is The Mating Game and this one just came close second to that. I've never read anything about lawyers so I was hesitate, but after the first few chapters I've fallin head over heels for Ezra! This man deserves the world on a platter! The way my heart and soul was almost crushed at his circumstances. I am I'm awe at the feelings this book made me feel and I love it!!

Lana had me with lawyers that are opposing counsels in a major divorce case x lovers. Danica is a bad ass and I couldn’t help but love Ezra. They are both complex characters with complex backgrounds and I loved learning about each of them. This book definitely has some great banter…….although that is to be expected from two attorneys. The courtroom scenes were some of my favorite. I just lovee the tension! Danica and Ezra definitely had chemistry and the spice didn’t disappoint. If you’re on the fence just pick it up and read it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Okay this book was so much fun to get into, and I absolutely fell in love with this storyline of Lana's. These cahracters were so well written and fleshed out which really helped to enhance the story, but the plot was mediocre at best! I think that I enjoyed the cahracters on their own more than the plot in this one this time around, but still really loved it!
Any book that Lana writes is a book I will enjoy! The spice was top tier as always!
Thank you NetGalley for an eARC!
