The story was beautifully well written. I enjoyed the narrators and I have 2 new narrators that I’ll find more books too. I’ll be sure to
Listen to the rest of the series!

This one was really good. I loved the 2 main characters together. I loved that Maverick wanted to take care of her and her baby. I love a good protector in my romance books. I have read one other book in this series but I think I liked this one better. It can be read as a stand-alone without missing too much.
This one I read on audio and the narrators were fantastic- I love when a book is read by a male and female narrator.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

But He’s My Roommate is the fourth and final book in Annah Conwell’s But He’s a Carter Brother series, which takes place in Georgia. It can absolutely be read or listened to as a stand-alone. But He’s My Roommate is a closed-door second-chance, older brother’s best friend romantic comedy. The story is told in alternating POV from Evie and Maverick.

Evie Wilder is a fashion photographer in NYC, recently divorced from her cheating model husband, Ezra, and a mother to two-month-old son, Beckham. Evie pretty much ghosted her family when she married Ezra and is now too embarrassed to share her current circumstances with them. Her brother, Drew, is worried about her and convinces his best friend, Maverick Carter, to travel with him to check on Evie and meet his nephew. They are dismayed to see Evie struggling and beg her to return to Georgia with them. While they are visiting, Evie is fired from her job and realizes that she can’t afford to stay in NYC.

Maverick Carter, one of the four Carter brothers, is Drew Wilder’s lifelong best friend. The Carter family included the Wilder siblings in their family unit due to the chaos and dysfunction in the Wilder household. Maverick had a secret crush on Evie but never pursued her. He was disappointed by her rushed marriage to the male model and subsequent ghosting of her Georgia family and friends. Maverick is the owner of a successful bakery in their hometown and has a large farmhouse on seven acres in the country. His home has a second floor with its own separate living space, which he offers to Evie rent-free. Maverick was almost engaged the previous year, but they broke up when he discovered that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

Evie really wants to manage on her own and is resentful that she has to accept help. Maverick wants to help her and does his best to be respectful of her dignity. Of course Maverick quickly falls in love with her, and Evie feels like she doesn’t deserve him. Maverick teaching Evie to box is one of my favorite scenes, and shows how much he really cares for her. The story arc is primarily Evie’s character development.

The storyline of But He’s My Roommate is predictable, but readers will adore Maverick’s sweetness and patience with Evie. The sibling relationships in both the Wilder and Carter families are enviable, and the banter is simultaneously realistic and hilarious. I found Evie to be immature, entitled, and professionally out of touch early in the story. She whined about giving her all to the fashion magazine, so much so that she went into labor early. Her pregnancy and lack of childcare wasn’t her employer’s problem, and bringing a newborn to work demonstrated how out of touch she was to professional norms.

The audiobook is skillfully narrated by Kim Churchill and John William Maddux, who do an outstanding job bringing life to the characters. However neither narrator uses a southern accent, when most of the characters are Georgia natives. The female narrator speaks too quickly for a native Southerner, and the audiobook company should consider slowing down her speech via electronic means, in order to be more authentic.

After purchasing the ebook from Amazon 6 months ago, I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the audiobook from NetGalley and DreamScape Media for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was the perfect book to end the series with. I have loved every book and have grown attached to the Carter family. Mav is such a sweet, protective, extra swoony cinnamon roll (who bakes!!), how could anyone not love him?! And Evie is the perfect sweet and sassy partner for him. The trials that she goes through would break many people, especially with all the postpartum hormones adding to the mix, but she is so strong and resilient and finally humble enough to accept help that she just flourishes instead. Also, I must say thank you to the author for not having a third act break up. It would have just broken my heart to see them go through that.
*UPDATE* I just finished listening to the audio version of this book and I love it as much as I did 5 months ago when I read it. The narrators were the perfect choice, becoming the characters and pulling me in to their story, rather than just voices saying words. Annah Conwell is a brilliant author and you will not be disappointed reading or listening to any of her books.

I’ve been waiting all series for these two to get their chance!

It was so nice to see them lean on each other and grow more comfortable with their feelings.

I loved the tropes in this one with an emphasis on roommates and single mom rather than an emphasis on a protective older brother who doesn’t approve of his best friend dating his sister.

I really enjoyed the narrators, making this quick read even quicker to fly through!

3.5 stars

This book was really cute! I have, yet again, read an Annah Conwell series out of order, but honestly they are all so good, it didn’t even matter. This book was the right amount of heart and depth with a side of cheesy, which I love. I am so excited to continue to explore this family, as I go back and start from the beginnning (now that I have read the end).

I get that this is part of a series but!!! It’s book four in a series of stand alone romances. I unfortunately have not read the previous books but I was able to jump right into this one with no issues aside from knowing that at this point most people are super in love with all of these side couples that have cameos in this book.

But He’s my Roommate follows Evie and Maverick. Evie is a newly single mom, just having divorced her cheating ass ex husband, she struggles to balance work and a new baby. Maverick is her brother’s best friend. Evie and Maverick grew up together and so naturally he comes to her rescue. It was a really cute story about finding love after getting burned by previous relationships. It was a brothers best friend, friends to lovers, no spicy cutesy book.

Big thank you to Dreamscape Media for this ALC!

Contains an audiobook review.

This is the last book in the But He's a Carter Brother series. It is a kisses only contemporary romcom. It is a standalone story, but there are other characters found throughout this book that are introduced in previous books in the series. You can certainly read this in any order, except for the epilogue! But the author warns you about that before you read it. I had listened to the first book a few months ago. I then listened to the other two prior to this one just in case. I can report that was not necessary to do though, although I am glad that I did complete the whole series.

The Carters are a fun family. I just love them and how they interact with each other and with the new additions to the group through each book. This one has some slightly heavier themes mentioned but dealt with in a tactful and upbuilding way. I am so glad to see Maverick get his chance at love and life.

There were a couple small plot "holes" or maybe plot dents that I wondered about, but overall it was a fun and enjoyable listen!

The audiobook is done in dual narration where there are a male and female narrator and they each read the entirety of the chapter with their character's POV, including dialog by the other gender. I believe that there are different narrators for the different books, and I mostly only know that because I binged listening to them in a week. I really enjoyed this couple and how they read the book.

Thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of this book. I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review. 4.5 stars rounded up

This is book 4 in the Carter Brother series. But they are also standalones you don't need to read the others. I read book 1 and 4
This had a single mom best friends roommate tropes. Which is fine

But the Slow burn part of it took way to long and it just didn't have that spark that moment for me.
if fell flat for me. Other people have and would enjoy this more. But it just made a simple story not have a lot of drive and the drama was lack luster it was a simple easy ready

Thank you NetGalley for the audio-arc in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and I was not a huge fan of the narrators. Their voices set me on edge and made the story even worse than it originally was.

Right off the bat, I strongly disliked where this story was headed. Also I was very confused as to how this plot made any logical sense?! Who in their right mind makes decisions like these?

So I will admit I jumped into this series with the last book and that potentially may have affected my feelings, but I highly doubt it because this book was just flat out not good. The plot line = horrible! That’s harsh, I know, but it’s honestly how I felt.

We start off with our MMC, Maverick, dashing to the airport to catch a flight with his best friend to help said best friend’s little sister, who happens to be married with a kid. That’s a lot, I know. Anyway, so Maverick doesn’t actually know WHY they’re going to see this sister, only that she apparently needs help. Why do we care about this best friend’s sister who is MARRIED with a KID?! IDK!! Well we find out that SURPRISE!! She’s actually divorced now because her husband cheated on her. So she’s left with a kid to raise on her own. Does she need help? Certainly! Does she ask for help? NO! Because who would want to help out a poor mom raising a kid on her own?! 🤦🏻‍♀️ The logic = not there.

Need I go on? I don’t care if they liked each other in their childhood. It’s just weird (and WRONG) to be carrying on for a married woman. Well, now apparently she’s not married so let’s jump into another relationship! SO HEALTHY! (Heavy on the sarcasm 🙄)

And don’t even get me started on Drew 🤦🏻‍♀️ Apparently he’s just an idiot, who doesn’t think, to everyone. Maverick is constantly talking down about him to Evie, like how are they even best friends?!

Ugh EVIE 😑 I. COULD. NOT. STAND. HER. Girl, you made your choices so you gotta deal with the consequences, BUT if people offer to help you, LET THEM! Like seriously! I can’t feel sorry for you when there are literally people TRYING to help you! She feels like a pick me girl 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was rolling my eyes so much while listening to this audiobook. Everything was SO over the top! Like if something was bad, then it was the WORST!! If it was good, then it was the BEST!! Ugh…I just couldn’t handle it! 🙄

I received a complimentary advanced listener copy of this audiobook from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media. All opinions listed are purely my own.

The last installment of the Carter Brothers series was a bittersweet read for me. I have loved these brothers (and their sister from the previous series) and was SO sad to say goodbye to them. But on the other hand I've been waiting (uhh... Not very patiently) for Maverick and Evie's story since it was first teased. Their relationship has been one I've greatly looked forward to reading. This book (that I got the privilege of reading an early copy of) did not disappoint.
I love that the author writes real people dealing with real issues and hurts and does so in a respectful and healing way. This is technically a standalone but there are enough cameos from previous books that I'd recommend reading the others first, partly because they're just plain amazing so that's a good plan anyways. I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did!
The audio for this book is well recorded, and I appreciated the listen as a second read through of the book! Thanks for the ALC, NetGalley!

It’s hard to read the last book in a series and this one is no different! Maverick, the last single Carter brother, is a baker who takes in his friend Evie, who is down on her luck, and her little boy after they’ve been barely surviving in NYC.

Evie is so skittish of everyone after she shut out her family and friends and lived with her narcissistic husband for many years. Then her world fell apart thanks to her husband.

Maverick is so patient, kind, and super supportive of Evie and gives her just the right of encouragement and a little tough love, especially when teaching her boxing.

This story is gentle and sweet. There is not a lot of angst or miscommunication, which is a good thing in my book. I loved Maverick’s protectiveness for Evie and baby Beckham, like the grocery store scene.

I also loved visualizing Maverick’s house. I usually have a really hard time picturing character’s houses. So I don’t know if because so many of the scenes took place at the house or what but I have a VERY vivid picture of Maverick’s house in my head and it’s beautiful, especially his kitchen. (I seriously want to live there!)

I read this story a few months ago when the book first came out and received a copy of the audiobook this month. I loved reintroducing myself to the story through the narration. Kim Churchill and John William Maddux give life to Evie and Maverick and I loved listening to the epilogue for each brother. (John William Maddux crushed each brother’s voice!)

A perfect cozy rom-com. Single parent, friends to lovers, and fabulous side characters. I started with the last book in the series and now I need to read the rest. Narrators were perfect!

I received a copy from Netgalley and the publisher.

This was a sweet and easy read about Friends who find their way back to each other. Maverick is the sweet but protective type and he comes to save the day for Evie. She is very independent and does not enjoy her brother and his best friend trying to take over her life.

When she falls on hard times she turns to Maverick for help and ends up living at his place for awhile until she can get back on his feet. Maverick helps Evie and her young son and soon the friendship begins to turn to more.

Nice easy read and definitely an author I will read again. The audiobook and narrator was done really well.

I have absolutely fallen in love 💔 with all 4 of the Carter brothers!! Annah Conwell’s characters are all so beautifully written and they develop so nicely throughout her stories.

After going thru a divorce, Evie became very guarded with her feelings and didn’t want anyone doing anything for her. This was so relatable to me because this is exactly how I was after my divorce. It took both Evie and I a while to let our guards down and be able to let our new partners in.

Watching Maverick bond over time with Evie’s baby Beckham melted my heart. I also loved how Evie overheard Maverick talking to Beckham about her. There were so many times I awed and ohed while reading this book.

I loved this book, and I loved how each of the Carter brothers made an appearance. I can’t wait to start Annah’s next series 💔
The only trigger warning for this book that I didn’t know in advance was a sick baby.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscapes Media for an ARC of this book.

ooey gooey goodness.

That’s what this book (series) is. I listened to the first of the Carter’s brother book and fell in love with the close-knit, loving family of the Carters. This book had depth that (in my opinion) the first book lacked. This couple’s history, past, and support for each other was so wholesome. I loved watching these characters grow and overcome headship, seriously just a sweet, beautiful read.

4⭐️ Super easy read if you like friends to lovers, second chances, found family, brothers best friend, single mom, and trauma healing. Maverick is super protective in a quiet way. Evie has a lot going on and it was nice to see her heal. This is my first book by Annan Conwell. It is an interconnected series and available on KU. Did not feel like I was missing anything from reading out of order. Definitely want to read the other Carter Brothers stories. This Audiobook will be available Tuesday, January 28th.

Dual narration by @kimchurchillvoice and John William Maddux. I loved every second they brought these characters to life. Looking forward to more from them both.

Synopsis:
I’m being forced to move in with my brother’s best friend. After my life falls apart, the last person I want to face is my childhood crush. Much less live with him. Unfortunately for me, my overprotective brother and his equally overprotective best friend show up on my doorstep and don’t take no for an answer. I put up my best fight, but it’s no use. Soon enough, I’m boarding a plane with them and my newborn son. All I want is to pick up the pieces of my life alone, but everywhere I turn it seems like Maverick Carter is there waiting to help. He makes it difficult to keep my distance, but I know I have to. Because he deserves so much better than me.

Simple, sweet and squeaky clean friends-to-lovers romance. While mostly uncomplicated, it’s lovely to see a character who has clearly taken some hard knocks find happiness. Sometimes we need more of that in life ! And as a fellow Evie (with a long E), the Pokémon references cracked me up. Audio performance was lovely and enjoyable.

Is there anything more fun than a brother’s best friend romance? In the last installment of the But He’s a Carter Brother series, I felt alllll the love of this insanely tight family. Maverick’s best friend’s little sister, Evie, finds herself alone in NYC as a new mother and a series of circumstances send her back to Georgia, where she lives in an apartment in her knight-in-shining-armor’s home. Witnessing Evie finding confidence in herself once more was so validating and observing Maverick caring for a newborn was pure heaven. Watching these two reclaim the easy relationship and friendship they once had was truly heartwarming.

The closeness of this family and the way they care for their own and those around them is so soothing. Every instance of connection was tender and I felt a constant perma-smile on my face and a swoon in my heart.

These narrators were delightful and that epilogue was the thickest, most decadent icing on the delicious cake of a story.

Content: mild romance; off page divorce/cheating

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the alc in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed being back with the Carter brothers. Their tight-knit family is definitely a favorite of mine. Maverick stepping up to help Evie as she navigates life as a newly single mom to an infant was swoonworthy. We love a man who steps up. Evie, of course, doesn't want help and fight him on it pretty much the whole time. I wouldn't call them a per say until the last like 10%. It's still really cute, though.
