A group of misfits runs the interim student government of Halcyon Burke University. They oversee what happens when the actual student government is gone on winter break. During this semester’s winter break, the interim student government opens the time capsule from the founders of the school from 350 years ago. What they find is treasure and untold fortunes that the university was built upon. These riches may undermine everything. The Board of Regents is intent upon tearing the school down to receive these riches and the actual student government decides to step in to agree with the decision of the Board of Regents. Will the school be torn down or will the underdogs save the school? You’ll have to read to find out.
Just an FYI, the cover can be deceiving. I thought that they would be embarking on a grand adventure, and this was not so. However, Parker Myles and her group of friends in the interim student government are a very endearing group and you just want to believe in them as much as they believe in themselves.

I'm sure there are people out there who would enjoy this graphic novel about an ambitious college freshwoman who wanted to make her mother proud by being in student government during winter break, when a time capsule is opened and it is revealed that the campus is sitting on top of a massive gold mine.
So, the board of regents decides to tear down the school so they can get all the gold.
And the girl, whose name I have forgotten, because the story was so boring, spends the rest of the story trying to get them not to.
That's it. I'm sure all the shouting, and the hilarity, and parties, and fighting with the soon to be Spring student body is funny, but it was just boring.
I have no idea who the audience for this is.
Thanks to Netgalley formaking this book available for an honest review. This book is being published on the 25th of March 2025

The book had popped up in several locations so when it was available on Netgalley I jumped on it but I don't necessarily know who the best audience is for it. It's a graphic novel set on a college campus. Most of the campus is on break but there's a second-tier student government that steps in because during a reveal of a time capsule it's discovered that the college is built over gold and the powers that be want to raze the college. It's up to the group to figure out how to get it together to save it.
I wanted it to be [book:The Avant-Guards, Vol. 1|42201523] but it felt like there was going to be a superhero reveal that never came. I think it suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Certainly funny, but with a bit of a lost focus, I was looking for an arc of a story that never really came.
Vivid color, it's a well-designed graphic novel for sure.
