This book made me cry multiple times. I absolutely loved it. I've seen people rave about B. K. Borison before and so I was very curious when I saw Good Spirits was available. Everything I heard was right. Her writing is excellent, funny and heartbreaking. Nolan and Harriet were lovely and their chemistry is wonderful. I loved seeing the change they created in each other. There was also just a really good attention to detail by the author. I think this might have been the easiest five stars I've given in a while. I'm going to go track down every other book by this author now.
I know that her other stuff doesn't have the fantasy aspect to it, but if that's holding you back, the characters and their journey are still really grounded. It a really sweet, emotional romance and ultimately it is about the characters finding themselves. I highly recommend it.

I enjoyed the story and there was plenty of romance. It felt like the perfect amount of everything. It was a sweet holiday read

I can’t wait to introduce my patrons to this story this Christmas season. It is a magical twist on A Christmas Carol with the Ghost of Christmas Past, this time hot Irish ghost Nolan, and his totally unsuspecting target Harriet. Harriet is a lovingly drawn FMC; luckless in love and life because of a poor self concept but cheerful and determined to do good and help others to her cheer. Nolan, is kinda grumpy after having had to show people their worst side every Christmas for the past 100 years.
Full of the good ole’ magic of the season with two MC’s you fall in love with. It is a story you fall into that envelopes you with the wonderful feeling of falling into a big old quilt in winter.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book feels as if it had been cowritten by BK Borison and Ashley Poston.
The magical realism element has been done amazingly, especially considering it’s the first time the author wrote something like that.
You litterally can’t stop yourself from getting attached to the MCs who are the absolute cutest.
I feel like it’s kinda insta-love but it’s done really well so it’s definitely not a bad thing about this book !
I cried so much reading it and it felt amazing.

I received an eARC of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so cute and also a bit heartbreaking. Its always a combo you expect when someone falls in love with a ghost. I absolutely loved both of the characters in this book. I love how our FMC is so unapologetically herself despite her family doing everything they can to make her feel bad for who she is. I do like that we get an HEA in multiple ways both for the couple and a family member (I won't say more because *spoilers 😏*). I cannot wait for what I hope is the second book in the series, the Grim Reaper love story. Also, I need Isabella to have her HEA as well. This is my second ever B.K. Borison book and I think they may have to become an auto-buy author for me. Their characters are just 100000/10 and I love the plots for their books. I'll be reading Lovelight Farms after this (I know, I know, I'm really late reading this series).

I really enjoy Borison’s characters and this did not disappoint. Full of holiday cheer and the wonder that the season brings. Harriet and Nolan are the epitome of grumpy/sunshine and I love it. Harriet’s heart and love to give everyone is inspiring and her growth to protect herself is wonderful.

I loved it. I don't think I've ever rated a book five stars, but that was the first thought that popped into my head after I finished it.
After First Time Caller, Good Sprits felt like was more like the BK Borison that I was familiar with from Lovelight. Good Spirits was cozy, sweet, and just really wonderful. The major strength of the story is just how much time we spend with Harriet and Nolan in close proximity as they try to figure out exactly why Nolan, a Ghost of Christmas Past, is haunting Harriet, a perfectly ordinary antiques shop owner who may just have people pleasing issues.
As they visit Harriet's past to find out where she 'went wrong,' they're bewildered; Harriet's past is full of attempts to be the person her parents think she should be, not diabolical acts that require major reconsideration of her life. The more they visit her past, the more muddled things get and the more they look towards one another and something changes. Dry, cynical Nolan can't help but see all of the ways that Harriet is strong, lovely, and special while Harriet sees someone in need of help. Harriet wants to help Nolan move on, she's sure that she's the one to help.
What develops is Harriet learning that she's not a disappointment and not everyone in her life will eventually abandon her.
Again, I loved it. I will be buying a physical copy come October!

B.K. Borison’s writing is effortlessly cozy, balancing humor and heartache with a touch of whimsy that makes this story impossible to put down. It is festive, romantic, and utterly enchanting. A perfect holiday escape with just enough magic to make you believe in love that transcends time.

Characters lacked chemistry. The premise is not what the author usually writes and I found myself struggling to read this. I love love this author but this style of writing and the premise of a ghost and a woman falling in love was not it. Fits a Christmas movie but not a romance novel.

What a treat to read something so infused with holiday magic early in the year. There are certainly plot holes and the magic is absolutely bonkers and I did have to consciously try to forget the inconsistencies. Regardless, I guess I’m a sucker for two randos who are “meant to find each other” and are magically into each others. Happy Christmas.
many thanks to avon and harper voyager and netgally for the advance reader copy.

I wept. I wept!!!!!!!!! Unheard of!!!!!! A soul tie that lasted decades!!!!!!!! What!!!!! This book was juiced so high with emotion I think I was one untied shoelace away from sobbing about them during my read through.

This was amazing from start to finish. The premise being the ghost from Christmas past getting the FMC to see her errors was so well done. Nolan was such a sweet character and I loved the banter from the beginning. Honestly will be checking back for the audio because I need to hear his Irish accent.

5/5
On the first day of December the universe gave to me a hot Irish ghost who appeared to audit my soul from behind my Christmas tree. B.K. Borison forges a new path in her latest holiday romance, Good Spirits, that not only had me romanticizing the concept of A Christmas Carol (minus Scrooge and with only one hot ghost), but more importantly had me wondering where do I sign up for this soul auditing scheme. Blanketed by holiday cheer, snow, and peppermint sticks, Good Spirits is a holiday romance of epic contradictions — much like the holidays themselves. The yuletide carols and wholesome family gatherings are out of the question for Harriet York, a late twenty-something dealing with the passing of an aunt who helped her leave behind the stifling expectations of her family. Working at the antique shop she inherited while shuffling between her everyday paths has left Harriet to become her own kind of ghost. But who doesn't want an actual ghost to appear and tell them their soul is in mortal peril? Infusing her captivating charm and capacity for unparalleled love stories, B.K. Borison’s Good Spirits is a heartening holiday romance involving loneliness and the power of memory in refortifying our present.
My full review is now posted on my blog.

I just finished “First-Time Caller” and immediately grabbed another book by B.K. Borison. I was initially hesitant about the premise of “Good Spirits,” but since “First-Time Caller” was so enjoyable, I decided to give it a shot. “Good Spirits” is a heartwarming and charming holiday romance that blends magic and love. The chemistry between Harriet and Noah is instant. While the premise could have easily felt cheesy, Borison’s engaging writing style somehow makes it work beautifully. This is a must-add to your TBR—“Good Spirits” is the perfect magical read for the 2025 holiday season.
Thanks to NetGallery and Avon and Harper Voyager for an advanced copy of this eBook in exchange for my honest review.

Good Spirits by B.K. Borison is a heartwarming, magical holiday romance that will have you feeling all the feels! This delightful tale follows Nolan Callahan, the Ghost of Christmas Past, who has spent centuries haunting with no real attachment or hope for the future—until he meets Harriet York. Harriet is a sweet, kind woman, trying her best to please everyone, yet she’s completely baffled when Nolan appears in her life.
Their connection is immediate and undeniable, and the way their relationship unfolds is so wonderfully swoony. Nolan’s gruff yet surprisingly tender nature is a perfect match for Harriet’s warm heart, and their chemistry is just magical. Watching them explore their pasts and uncover deep, meaningful connections will keep you hooked. The way Borison weaves together themes of self-discovery, second chances, and love is truly special.
What I loved most about Good Spirits is how cozy and festive it feels. The holiday magic and the quirky charm of the story make it the perfect read for the season, but it also brings a sweet and emotional depth to the romance. I found myself grinning through the entire book and felt that warm, fuzzy glow that only the best holiday romances bring.
With a perfect blend of humor, romance, and a bit of mayhem, B.K. Borison has created a must-read Christmas story that will make you believe in the magic of love and second chances. Highly recommend this one for anyone looking for a heartwarming, swoony read that will make your holidays even brighter!

What a unique book concept. This was such a fun and different read. I loved the idea of a ghost and the “haunting”. It was fun to try and connect the dots of why they were put together. I was trying to find clues as to why things were happening but I guess I was as clueless as Nolan haha.
I relate a LOT to Harriet. I felt such a deep sense of understanding when she was explaining how she didn’t feel like she fit and she was trying to stop forcing herself into the spaces not meant for her. I feel like I desperately needed to read about this as I have been struggling lately with this.
Overall, I did enjoy this quite a bit and would recommend!

B.K. Borison has spun magic into her signature cozy, real-feel style, and I loved it! It reads like a contemporary while giving you the magical escapism of a fantasy.

B.K Borison has perfected romance genre writing and now has thrown a little magic into the mix with Good Spirits. I loved the dynamic between Harriet and Nolan and the Ghost of Christmas Past business. I also liked the dual point of view and following Harriet as she realizes she no longer wants to be a doormat to her mother. I felt like the plot moved a little bit fast and I wanted to see a little more into the world Borison is introducing us to (reapers? ghosts? HELLO!), but I'm guessing that might come with more books in the series. Either way, I loved it and feel like B.K. does no wrong!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC!

Another delicious, heartwarming read from Borison! I loved the concept of the ghost of Christmas past exploring her childhood trauma—and his own forgotten past. What a clever way to keep these two lovers apart, and even more satisfying as they fall in love and earn their HEA! A wonderful return to the holiday settings Borison has made us all fall in love with. So ready for this new era!!

I think the concept (ghost of christmas past?) sounds a little corny, but then it was SO GOOD! So much chemistry and longing. I couldn't put it down! I will definitely re-read this at Christmas time as a treat to myself! Highly recommend! The ending left me a little confused, but that didn't take away from the book!
