Love the widows and their straight way of dealing with things. Ginny, settling into widowhood and a new life, fits in perfectly and I am looking forward to their next “case”. Great reading with a few twists and turns along the way.

This book was definitely a slow burn but a good one!! I didn’t know who the murder was the entire time and even towards the end I was hooked! The plot twists were phenomenal!! It’s definitely a good read for those that want a good mystery!

"Sixty-year-old widow Ginny Cole thought she'd used up her life quota of bad luck. So she's dismayed when her move to the quaint village of Little Shaw begins with finding the murdered body of rude and dislikeable library manager, Louisa Farnsworth. Has misfortune followed her cross-country?

When suspicion falls on the daughter of her friend Hen, because of a perfectly innocent threatening letter, Ginny's sure the police are letting the real killer walk free, and together with fellow widows JM, Tuppence and Hen, the Widows' Detective Club is born.

Between following the trail of local gossip, digging up graveyards at midnight, and discovering dark secrets about the village's past, sleuthing seems simple enough. But when another body is found, Ginny starts to wonder, are they in over their heads?

And when the widows' snooping puts Ginny too close for the killer's comfort, will her new life in Little Shaw end as dramatically as it began...?

If you love Sarah Yarwood-Lovett, Robert Thorogood and The Thursday Murder Club mysteries, you'll adore this charming cozy mystery full of page turning twists and endearing characters."

I mean, fellow widow Tuppence I think had to at some point start solving crime right? It's all in the name!

I love a good cozy mystery, and even more, I love one set in England. This was a fun read! Ginny Cole has a lot to juggle between the loss of her beloved husband and finding her place in a new town when her horrible boss dies (talk about a compounding of unfortunate events).

This book was charming, with wonderful and supportive characters and a well-conceived mystery. I loved that it was equal parts about moving on and finding your place and new people as it was mystery. Bravo! Can’t wait to read the next!

Thank you to #StormPublishing and #Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an enjoyable cozy murder mystery. A group of Widow's trying to clear one of their daughters name for a crime she didn't commit. It has a good amount of twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Thank you netgalley and Storm Publishing for this arc.

This is the kind of book that's a good palate cleanser. You know that some things are going to be predictable, some things are going to be extremely far-fetched, and some characters aren't going to have any depth to them. There are plenty of tropes: small town, normal citizen figuring out the mystery, etc.

That being said, Ginny was a likeable older woman who didn't go looking for trouble, but helps solve the mystery and save the day. It was a fast read with lots of twists, a cute cat, and plenty of secrets.

Thank you, NetGalley and Storm Publishing, for this ARC in return for my honest opinion. I look forward to reading the ARC for the sequel.

This was such an entertaining and fun cozy murder mystery. I was immediately immersed in the story.
First of all, the characters. The group of widows are so charming, adorable and quirky. They naturally find themselves in various nonsense situations and manage to get out of them. They are lovable and you want to be their friends and join their group.
Then, the secondary group of characters from the grumpy detective, the nosy neighbors, and the gossipy and colorful villagers, are equally important to the story. They're hilarious and you keep wondering if they're going to give you clues or if they're just in the way.
Finally the plot is excellent. There were few twists and turns and many possible suspects with motives and it kept me guessing until the very end. I appreciate when the suspect is not obvious from the start and that you can participate in the investigation. A real suspense.
I can't wait to read the next book, and I can't wait to see what trouble the widows get into next.
For now, I'm craving Eccles cakes 🤦🏻‍♀️

3.5 stars, rounded down to 3 stars.

I really wanted to love this -- the cover is great and was a good start. Unfortunately, this just didn't connect with me like I wanted it to. I found my mind drifting away while reading, and it was a little effort to finish. To be honest, I enjoyed it more by the end, but I was still happy to be finished.

I'm not saying this was bad -- it wasn't. I wish it had a little more humor and whimsy, but, oh well.

Will I continue the series? Hmmm, maybe.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.

The Widows' Guide to Murder is the first book in The Widows' Detective Club series by Amanda Ashby, and I couldn't recommend it more for those seeking a cozy mystery. The story centers around Ginny Cole, who is newly widowed and struggling to get on with this new phase of life. After starting her new job as a library assistant, Ginny finds her unpleasant boss dead, thrusting her into an unexpected investigation.

Ginny is an excellent lead character, and along with three fellow widows join forces to clear the name of one of their daughters. These women are all a lot of fun, and through their camaraderie, Ginny begins to step out of her comfort zone and back into life. The story perfectly balances investigation and action, with Ginny finding herself involved in various antics for the sake of the investigation. While she is driven to do the right thing, it’s entertaining to see her occasionally bend the law a bit.

The pacing is just right, and the crime-solving elements are engaging. The characters are clever, and the story is filled with warmth and wit. I found it utterly charming and will definitely be reading more of the series and other works by Amanda Ashby.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.

This is light hearted easy read which is full of surprises!! In a good way. The beginning lulls you into a slow country village world of wonderful characters until it all starts to kickoff!! This tale had me guessing wrongly to the end, brilliant!
Recently widowed Ginny moves to the northern village of Little Shaw from Bristol so she could start again away from the memories of her life with her GP husband. She starts a job at the local library to meet the villagers and start to make her way. Ginny is taken under the wing of the local widows group….. so the adventures begin.
I really enjoyed this book and story and can highly recommend for a fun light read with lots of twists and turns to the end!
Can’t wait for the next one!
Definitely for lovers of the Thursday Murder Club mysteries.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm publishers for the early read! Loved it!

This was delightful! I'm always up for a good reinvention story, but I was especially drawn in by the quirky characters, whacky hijinks, and an especially twisty, really-hard-to-guess mystery! Ginny and her new friends were a delight to read about. If you like Sister Boniface or Agatha Raisin, you will enjoy this series start!

(Also as a librarian, when Ginny had to deal with volunteers at her library-specifically when they stop checking people out because they're screaming at each other-I immediately said, "Yup, this author knows what she's talking about." Lol. )

The Widow's Guide to Murder by Amanda Ashby is an utterly delightful read. The writing is engaging and full of surprises, with characters that are both memorable and endearing some you just love to hate! It's a very cozy mystery and has MC Beaton vibes which I love. I had never heard of this author before but I am so glad I did. I will be read the next one! It’s a fun, fast-paced read that will leave you eagerly turning the pages until the very end. Lovely cozy mystery with a group of well described characters and a semi feral cat. Add the local library into the mix and you have a winner. I’ve already started the second book in the series. A great way to spend a winter afternoon with a brew and a blanket.

A wonderful cosy mystery, the best cure for a book hangover.
These widows are hilarious and in my mind they don't look and feel older than 40 years old.
Apparently our main protagonist, Ginny, is in her 60s and recently widowed. She moves to Little Shaw village and she immediately gets to work.
Firstly working as a Librarian assistant and secondly as a sleuth. It's not her fault that the bodies are piling up and that everyone is giving clues left and right!
The mystery was actually well made with a million twists. Little Shaw can be scary but definitely not for our widow sleuths.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the copy and I'm diving into the second one!

What a lovely cozy mystery!!

Moving to a new village after the death of her husband, Ginny finds a job at the local parish library. After immediately finding a dead body, Ginny is quickly pulled into all the town drama, secrets, and characters. Along the way, Ginny finds her path through grief and herself.

I really enjoyed this read. The cast of town characters was fun, and the plot moved nicely. I look forward to book #2 to see what fun and trouble the widows get up to next.
