This is a very simple, early reader friendly, cute book. I read this book with my five year old and she was pointing out some sight words which makes this book perfect for those starting to read and to gain confidence. Thank you to NetGalley and North Star Editions for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

A clever improvement on your typical early readers with attractive illustration accompanied by simple narrative complemented by engaging activities, I liked the way the book takes parents through what to do and covers the sounds and tricky words first (rather than at the end like many of these type of books). I’ll be looking out for the next stage up for my eldest!

This is a great easy reader for a child who is just learning their letter sounds. This book will instill confidence in early readers.

A very nicely designed decodable phonics reader. The narrative itself was pretty basic, which is typical for a phonics reader, especially for level 1A. What stood out to me as particularly nice in this phonics series are the "tricky words" and "new words" sections at the beginning, which very clearly lay out the non-decodable words and the new sounds that will be present in the book. Mather also includes dot and line symbols under the words in the book to indicate which letters are to be sounded out by themselves, and which are part of a blend and should be sounded out together. (This particular title only includes the former, as it is at the beginning level.)
I would recommend this series as a nicely designed set of decodable readers for pretty much any library to support early literacy.

Pre-readers and beginning readers who are learning CVC phonics will enjoy this simple story about a dog who 'taps', gets 'pats', and sits by the 'tap'. Beginning readers will get exposure to and practice reading short /a/ words, and connect vocabulary to their new decoding skills. My only problem with this simple reader was the reference to the faucet as the "tap". While this is used conversationally in the US, I feel that it's more common in the UK, or with older, more sophisticated language users.
This is a good option for a simple reader and I recommend it for homeschoolers, school libraries, and classroom libraries.

A engaging and cute easy reader for young children. The style and pictures are fun and should help keep the attention of readers. Instructions on how to use the book to teach phonics is clear-cut and easily accessible.

A fine part of a phonics package, this has a dog respond to his owner – just incorrectly. Can the young reader be smarter? There's little more to say, as this is for building literacy from the ground up, so you shouldn't be expecting complexity.

This is a wonderful decodable book, ideal for kindergarteners or any child who has learned their letter sounds and is ready to blend them into CVC words. I used it with my 4-year-old, and he was so proud to have a book he could read independently! Homeschool parents should know that this book utilized the touch dots just like "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lesson". This decodable reader would be an excellent supplement for families who use that curriculum to teach reading.
