On the whole good, though the plot seemed a bit confusing at first, it did come together as the book went on. Young girls are going missing and some turn up dead. Ashley is the main detective, recently promoted, on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. There is a lot going on in the plot which takes some concentration, a lot of characters, though it did not take too long to sort out who was who. A couple of twists in the plot which added to the supense. Not sure about Ashley's personal life, that seemed a bit of an add on and did not gel with the rest of the story for me. The relationships between the team could be fleshed out a little more too, in my opinion.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC

Trigger warnings: human trafficking, abduction of young women
DI Ashley knight find herself dealing with the seedy underworld of human trafficking in this fourth instalment of the Norfolk Murder series, which really puts her promotion to DI to the test! The lovely idyllic setting of the Norfolk Broads is rocked yet again with murder, this time it has links to a European group that go by the name The Vampires - only it seems on of member has gone rogue and whilst the gang is notorious for prostitution this member has decided that killing for the sake of it is more fun.
This is quite the gritty read, and at times intense but none the less a great tale woven by Ross Greenwood, once again bringing characters together in the toughest of situations as see just how well DI Knight can cope with the promotion.
5 stars

The fourth book in this police procedural series proved just as engaging as the first three. This is a police procedural crime series that is a pleasure to follow.
Once again DI Ashley Knight finds herself heading a crime investigation that is most likely her most challenging yet. A crime gang called the Vampires are heavily into prostitution and a member of the gang has gone rogue – he is killing people for fun! And even worse, there is an international crime gang called Typhon, who are known people smugglers.
Four books into the series finds Hector Fade back from London and working with Ashley’s team. Their banter and jibing adding greatly to my enjoyment of the novel. Also, this time out, Sebastian, an investigative journalist is given access to Ashley’s team and their investigations. It seems peculiar to Ashley that this would be allowed, and she has her own suppositions as to why he is here.
DI Ashley Knight was an intelligent, lonely, and quite damaged protagonist. She has had a lot of ‘life lessons’ that have caused her to be empathetic to others. She is in her forties and single. In this novel she is newly promoted to Detective Inspector and she must navigate her work – and her team – within the new dynamic of being their boss.
The rest of Ashley’s MIT team included DC Barry Hooper (several years younger than Ashley – whom she used to sleep with), newly promoted DS Emma Stones (a six foot tall mother of three), and DS Jan Pederson. Ashley answers to Chief Inspector Vince Kettle. Even the peripheral characters in the book were interesting to get to know, however slightly. They were characters that were fully realized to the extent that you celebrated their successes and was distressed with their failures.
The setting was skilfully described. Norfolk, with its scenic Broads, windmills, and lighthouses.
In my opinion it would be advantageous to read this series in order to fully realize the development of the characters backstories.
Be warned, there are some distressing topics covered in this book. Forced prostitution, abduction, and people trafficking to name but three. I found this novel darker in subject matter than the previous books in the series.
There are many suspenseful scenes which will have you rapidly turning the pages to discover the outcome. With innocent missing teenagers, Ashley encounters some tense and some poignant moments.
The writing flowed smoothly, the pace was fast, and the characterization accomplished.
With a well crafted plot, strong characterization, and a satisfying conclusion, this book should appeal to many fans of the genre. All in all, “Death at Horsey Mere” was a very tense and immersive police procedural and I hope to read any further books in this series.
Recommended to lovers of police procedurals who do not mind some gritty scenes and subject matter.

The fourth in Greenwood's Norfolk Murders series, Death at Horsey Mere easily reads as a standalone. But rest assured you'll be missing out on an outstanding series if you don't!
It's a well paced read, full of twists, turns and unexpected moments! I had no idea THAT was going to happen! Brilliant book crossover from the author.
We're taken straight into the thick of the action with the disappearance of teens Camille and Akari. It's a high profile case, tensions are fraught and the intensity is palpable.
Characters are fantastic, their growth and developing personalities shine through.
A brilliant book, a great inclusion to the series written by an amazingly talented author.

This was another great story starring DI Ashley Knight in the Norfolk Murders series. Ashley has been promoted since the last book and her protégé, Hector Fade, has moved on to work in London and with the NCA. Not that this stops him from appearing in this book as Ashley does need to ask for his help in analysing all the date around the missing girls.
The story flows incredibly well and is very easy to read even through the more horrific crimes detailed in these pages. It was good to catch up with characters from previous books in this series as well as this being a cross over book with the authors DI Barton series as the man himself makes a guest appearance here!
As always with this series I am left with the turning of the last page hopeful that there will be more books in this series as they are always a pleasure to read.

I enjoyed this next book in the series following DS Ashley Knight. In this book Ashley has been newly promoted to Inspector and is soon busy on a new case when two young women go missing. It soon becomes clear that there is a lot more to this then just a couple of missing girls. Ashley soon finds herself involved in a case that’s been operating all over Europe for years. There’s a lot going on in this book and you can’t help but be drawn in to Ashley’s life as she tries to get to the bottom of this difficult situation. Another five star read from this author

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Death At Horsey Mere' by Ross Greenwood.
This is the seventh book I have read by this author. It is also the fourth book in his 'The Norfolk Murders' series but can be read as a standalone.
Well, well, well Wow!!! Yet another absolute cracker of a book from this amazing author!!! This book sucked me straight in from beginning to the explosive ending. It was very well written with excellent evocative descriptions which put me straight into the storyline. The blog and the cover suited the book perfectly.
This is another absolutely fantastic page turning addition to this addictive series by the extremely talented Ross. Ross's fantastic evocative writing skills really bring the story to life. I loved the seaside atmosphere of Suffolk where the crime is in this fantastic page turner, where you can hear the waves crashing and feel the wind in your hair while turning the pages. When I seen this book was written by Ross I didn't even bother looking at the synopsis until after I read it as after the first book in this amazing series I already knew I just had to read this book when it came out!!! I absolutely LOVED the previous books in this series as well as other series' that Ross has written and I must admit I am always wary when I love a book so much and have my doubts that further books could be just as good but I am pleased (for once) that I was proven completely wrong (don't tell my partner!) by Ross and he had managed to make an ever more amazing read although I have no idea how that was possible!! I would recommend reading books in a series in order but if you cant resist reading this book before the previous ones, and who would blame you with this eye catching cover then fear not! There is a silver lining when you do read later books in a series first and that is while you are eagerly waiting the next book in the series to come out you can go back tor read the ones prior to the one you are reading! The good news is that you do not have too long to wait for the next book in this series which is called 'Death At Fakenham Races'. It is available to preorder now on Amazon and it will be published on the 5th June! In this gripping addition to this series Ross transports the reader back to Norfolk where we meet up with Ashley Knight. Ashley is now a DI after being promoted 6 months ago. Ashley and her team have been investigating and trying to get their hands on a network of people smugglers but with nobody talking they haven't got as far as they wanted. However when a couple go missing, a body is discovered near a Suffolk lighthouse and then another two girls go missing things go from bad to worse for the team. It seems that they are all connected to the network they have been trying to capture. Can Ashley and her team stop the killers and people smuggling before more bodies turn up and/or people go missing? To find out then you need to grab your copy of this addictive page turner and I can guarantee you will not regret it!! You may even discover a new favourite author and series!! With an addictive, complex and intriguing storyline ram packed with tension, murder, suspense, crime, mystery and everything you could ask for in a fantastic page turner what on Earth are you waiting for?!! I loved all the twists and turns and throughout which kept me hooked throughout and I would NEVER have guessed at the ending so a MASSIVE WELL DONE to Ross. I have read many thrillers and it's getting harder and harder for me to be surprised so great job there. I loved the storyline and just loved everything about it. It was all done perfectly!! An absolutely addictive page turner that kept my heart in my throat on the edge of the seat and absolutely absorbed me. The fact there were so many different red herrings, twists, shocks and possibilities that all would have worked perfectly I could not put this book down!!! I was so invested in the storyline that I was up until 2am!! I would LOVE to see this turned into a movie!!! I cannot wait to get stuck in to the next book in this absolutely addictive series!!
WARNING ⚠ DO NOT START THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED YOUR SCHEDULES AS THIS BOOK IS ADDICTIVE!!!!
Although this is the fourth book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without reading the first book. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
The characters were fantastic, solid and completely believable and I loved meeting Ashley and her team again. They have very quickly become fast favourites of mine and like friends that I look forward to meet in each new book and miss in between. The main protagonist is Ashley who I really connected with from the start of book one 'Death On Cromer Beach'. My heart went out to her with everything she was going and had gone through. Ashley has had some traumatic experiences in her past, keeps her feelings locked up, is lonely and has had her own personal struggles to deal with. However, this does not stop her and I absolutely love her sarcastic, kick butt attitude and found her to be an absolutely amazing strong female lead which is always a bonus for me being female myself. I absolutely loved getting to know her more in this book as well as her team and seeing how each of her team members worked individually and together. Ashley is a great person to lead a team and I loved watching her work with Hector Fade and some of their interactions had me laughing out loud, along with many interactions between Ashley and other team members and other characters between each other. I find it is important in any police procedural or murder to have some laughter between to lighten up the atmosphere and Ross did an ABSOLUTELY fantastic job doing this especially with Forensic pathologist Michelle Ma Yun's gallows humour!! Ashley really is an intriguing and complex character and I have enjoyed meeting her again and getting to know more about her and cannot wait to meet her again!!! There was a great eclectic mix of characters from good to bad which always helps to liven the storyline up. They all had such different and strong personalities and all suited the storyline perfectly.. There were such a mix of personalities and its hard really to say too much about any of them without giving too much away!!! Regardless of whether you liked, loved or disliked any of the characters they all work perfectly together to bring this story to life. I cannot wait to meet Ashley and more characters in the next book in this series!!
CONGRATULATIONS ROSS ON YET ANOTHER ABSOLUTELY ADDICTIVE PAGE TURNER!!!! A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO THIS AMAZING SERIES!! THIS IS THE EXACT REASON YOU ARE IN MY TOP 5 MALE AUTHORS LIST!!! HERE'S TO YOUR NEXT SUCCESS AND THE NEXT AMAZING BOOK IN THIS EPIC SERIES 🥂
Overall a compelling, addictive, gritty and fantastic page turning addition in an explosive series!!

Death at Horsey Mere is written by Ross Greenwood. This is book four in the Norfolk Murder series. This is a new to me author, and I have not read any of the other books in the series. However, I did not find any issue following along. Ashley Knight has recently been promoted and has been enjoying being in charge. She is finding her new role challenging.
Then the team stumbles upon international crime syndicate - that includes human trafficking. The team are working in conjunction with the NCA after the discovery of a body near a lighthouse which links events here with others across Europe. This book had so many twists and turns throughout.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

The story:
When two 17-year-old girls are abducted in broad daylight from the streets of Norwich, DI Ashley Knight and her team are plunged into a race against time to try and find them alive. Worryingly, the case seems to have clear links to organised crime; stretching across Europe and with a mystery entity, known only as Typhon, at its head.
Previously a trainee of Ashley’s, Sergeant Hector Fade is brought in from the Met to lend his skills at data analysis to the case. With the Typhon organisation crumbling, Hector uncovers a previously unrealised number of murders that seem to be connected by both the victims and the locations of their deaths. Will Ashley and her team be able to uncover the truth before any more bodies are found?
My thoughts:
“Death at Horsey Mere” is the fourth instalment in author Greenwood’s Norfolk Murders series. I’ve read these from the start (beginning with “Death on Cromer Beach“), having enjoyed the author’s DI Barton series (who pleasingly gets a brief appearance in this book!), so I was excited to find out what would happen next and how the characters’ stories would develop.
This series features Ashley Knight, who is now a newly promoted Detective Inspector. As the story begins, it seems that Ashley has slipped back into old habits (bad diet, no exercise) with the pressure this new role brings. She is, however, an excellent DI—and she needs to be with the challenges of the case that arises at the beginning of the story. This is really a continuation of the cases that have been progressing throughout this series, particularly in the last book, “Death in Bacton Wood“, with local gangs, international people trafficking and prostitution, and ongoing investigations including an undercover operation involving an officer from another team in Norfolk. This instalment kicks off with the abduction of two teenage girls, and starts a race against time for Ashley and the team to track them down.
As well as Ashley, I also enjoyed seeing the rest of the Major Investigation Team again, along with Hector Fade, now a Sergeant with the Met in London. Hector had been part of Ashley’s team in previous books as part of a fast-track training scheme, and although initially struggling to fit in, given his privileged background and fast-track status, he and Ashley are now firm friends. His skills with data analysis are crucial to this case, finding a strange link regarding the locations of the various murder sites.
Something I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that it includes both the big picture, international element—with Ashely and her team working alongside the NCA (National Crime Agency)—and the individual, personal effects of the crimes, as we see the impact on the victims and their families, and how the Major Investigation Team’s dedication leads to results. The author has said there are two more books planned in this series, so I look forward to seeing where the team go next, with Ashley seemingly in a better place in her personal life by the end of the book. Overall, this was a fast-paced, nail-biting read, and definitely one I’d recommend for all fans of gritty crime!

Thank you to @rachelsrandomresources for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Teenagers going missing and turning up dead all over Europe, and trafficking happening soon gets the team’s interest peaked. All this was uncovered after a teenage couple went missing and he turned up apparently having committed suicide.
Some intense storylines in this novel, but just as good as the previous in the series. DI Ashley is centre of attention and doing her best to prevent more teens going missing and uncovering the head of this international gang. There are some great characters in her team, but not all are happy she was promoted, still treating her as their colleague rather than boss. I really like her as a character, strong, fearsome and knows what she wants and how to achieve it.
I really like the writing style of this author and enjoy the “on the edge of your seat” drama he creates. I’ve read a couple but will definitely be keeping my eyes open for the next instalment.

Another brilliant read in the bag. The joy with reading this series is that you know the characters and step back in so easily. Whilst this can be read as a standalone, reading the series in order is such a delight, following not only the intricacies of the criminal networks being investigated, but also in enjoying the growing relationships within the team. Alongside the relentless toll of the police work, the reader gets a glimpse of the lives of the main characters, struggling to balance their lives and their work.
The crimes in this book make for dark, compelling reading, involving several police forces across Europe and the NCA. These books are mostly set across Norfolk, depicting the beauty of each location, even in amongst the darkness of these crimes. The characters are realistic individuals and draw on the readers empathy, particularly the young victims, with the characters developing throughout the book.
The cases had me intrigued, with the police desperately trying to unpick the reasoning behind the crimes and find the perpetrators.
The prison scenes are harsh and unnerving, drawing on the author’s personal experiences of prison life, with glimpses of some of the issues faced. I did enjoy the crossover with another series, enabled by the use of Peterborough prison, allowing the appearance of DCI Barton.
Ross has written a well-crafted story, the pace is fast, relentless, with the tension at times, almost unbearable, as the teams rush to try to save victims. There are a few unexpected moments as the plot draws to its conclusion. A fabulous read full of wonderful characters.

The East European Vampires gang are already running rife in Norfolk and Suffolk but NCA intelligence suggests the remainder of the gang run by Typhon are fleeing Europe and heading for the UK. It appears they are now supplying their prostitution business with abduction victims. In Ipswich, a young couple have gone missing and the boyfriend’s body later turns up in his car near Lowestoft. His suspected suicide is soon proved to be suspicious and one week on, the girl is still unaccounted for. When two wealthy seventeen-year-old girls vanish from Norwich, Ashley Knight, now a DI, investigates with the team at Norfolk’s MIT including DS Emma Stones and DS Jan Pedersen, along with DCs Barry Hooper, Morgan Golding, Zelda Cartwright and Sal Freitas all working under DCI Kettle. Along with input from the NCA, Ashley is delighted to receive help from the Met in the form of old team member DS Hector Fade analysing data which soon points to the bodies being left by lighthouses and windmills, both in the UK and on the continent. Hundreds of victims are thought to be involved and as a second body is found in the river at Horsey Mere, the detectives race to unravel the truth behind the mysterious Typhon and put a stop to the last arm of the monster before anyone else suffers.
This is another smashing addition to the series, set in a beautiful area and dealing with an abhorrent and very topical theme. With the exception of DS Bhavini Kotecha on maternity leave, all the other very likeable regulars are here including forensic pathologist Michelle and FLO Scott who are now an item. The story is fast paced, twisty and cleverly written with lots of short gripping chapters and plenty of action. I very much enjoyed this fourth book in the series and can’t wait for more!

Another amazing Ross Greenwood crime thriller. I was so excited to be part of this tour because I always enjoy Greenwood’s books. This one did not disappoint, it was a gripping read. This book is part of a series, following the story of DS Ashley Knight, but it can be read as a standalone.
The books stats straight in the action where two girls disappear and a body is found by a lighthouse. Ashley’s team are tracking down a network of people smugglers which has its twists and turns. The action is fast paced and as the case progresses, the tension builds as the team are racing against time.
The book is definitely a page turner and with the short chapters and cliffhangers, it made me not want to put the book down. I like reading about the character development of the police team and how they are getting on. I enjoy reading these books because they feel so realistic and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book and series!

I wish I'd discovered Ross before now!
I'll be honest, the only reason I chose to read this book was because I live just a few miles from Horsey Mere - yep, it's a real place, with lots of seals, but no dead bodies - as far as I know! But by God, I wish I'd discovered this series earlier! Now I want to read all the Norfolk series, followed by the rest of Ross's books.
I loved it, from beginning to end. It's fast-paced, descriptive, full of great characters (well the good guys anyway) and lots and lots of references to real places in Norfolk and Suffolk. We only moved here a couple of years ago, but it's cool to see the pop-up references to the villages and tourist attractions.
The story was brilliant, if dark, but honestly, stuff like human trafficking is prevalent and even though this is fiction, it's good to see it written about, and it'll definitely make you think about the completely evil people there are in this world.
Apparently this is the fourth book in the Norfolk series, and it can definitely be read as a standalone, but I'll certainly be revisiting Norfolk in the earlier books.
Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books and Rachel's Random Resources for the opportunity to read and review Death at Horsey Mere by Ross Greenwood.

Ashley Knight, now a Detective Inspector, is involved in two missing persons cases that have links to human trafficking that now seems centred in Norfolk. The story features many returning characters and disturbing crimes. It's a complex, pacy crime thriller with intelligent investigators and evil criminals. The twists are relentless, and when you think you know what's happening, you find things are not what they seem. The authentic settings, believable emotion, and complex characterisation make this an absorbing story. The ending is particularly intense and poignant.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

WoW. . . . . . . Death at Horsey Mere by Ross Greenwood is the 4th book in the excellent DS Ashley Knight series and I have loved this series from the very 1st book called Death on Cromer Beach. This book is full of twists and turns and has a great story. I love the main character DI Ashley Knight.
Now, DI Ashley Knight is freshly promoted and has enjoyed her first six months in charge even though it’s been a challenging time with her team focused on breaking down a network of people smugglers.
A teenage couple go missing in Suffolk, and a body is found near a lighthouse and two girls disappear from Norwich’s Golden Triangle, Hector makes a connection which chills Ashley to the bone. When another victim is found at Horsey Mere, the link to the ruthless criminals is obvious.
Now, can Ashley solve the case, or will the mysterious Typhon prove to be an unstoppable force?
WoW this book is another 5 star read and I highly recommend this series. Superb read,
DI Ashley Knight books in order to read. . . . . But you can read these books as a standalone book I so recommend you read all of these as you get a great feel of the main character.
Book 1 - Death on Cromer Beach
Book 2 - Death at Paradise Park
Book 3 - Death in Bacton Wood
Book 4 - Death at Horsey Mere
Big Thank you to NetGalley and especially Boldwood Books for my ARC. x

Another brilliant read from Ross Greenwood in the Norfolk Murders series. DI Ashley Knight has been promoted and when a young couple go missing it looks like they’ve runaway together. However it soon becomes clear that there is something more sinister happening when a body is found by a lighthouse and two girls vanish. Fast paced with plenty of twists this kept me totally engaged. There was plenty of depth to each character and they came across as very realistic, like you actually know them. A bonus for me is that I know the area where this is set extremely well so could easily visualise events. Hoping there is another one in the series! Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC

Death at horsey mere by Ross Greenwood.
Ds Ashley Knight book 4.
I really enjoyed this book. What an opening. Twisty and gripping from the start. The only book I haven't read in this series is book 3. I got into this book straight away. I loved the writing style and the story. I read this book in a few days. I did like the short chapters. I did like Ashley and her team. I wasn't expecting that. It did surprise me. I liked the ending. I hope there's more to come. I recommend this series.

I was lucky enough to read this on NetGalley and thoroughly enjoyed my first book by this author. This is part of a series but works well as a standalone read. It’s quite fast-paced with lots going on and there is a surprising twist … who doesn’t love a twist?
For me, the only thing that stopped it being 5 stars was the number of characters to keep track of, I found it confusing at times to remember who everyone was! That said, I liked the characters and their interactions felt natural.
The storyline is well-plotted, intricate and exciting. The setting is an important element of the writing and all the familiar places in Norfolk that are included are accurately described.
I recommend this book to those who like a well written police procedural, those who like a thrilling action-packed read, those who like a story with a strong sense of place and those who just want a cracking good read! I’ll be reading more by this author!

I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.
This police procedural is part of the Norfolk Murders series. I have read one of the previous books in this series, so I remembered the protagonist, Detective Ashley Knight, and I quite enjoyed reading about Ashley again. At the start of the book, she's called upon to investigate a case of two missing girls. The two girls are known to be friends and are similar in appearance.
I liked all of the detectives, and how they worked together. The story flowed easily, and I found myself quite invested in the storyline; I wanted to know what had happened to these girls. It took me a few hours to read this one in its entirety, but it was a page turner.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel's Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and to the author, for the opportunity to read and review this.
