Gemma Rodgers is a great writer.have read all of her books but in my opinion this is her best one yet. The night shift is a thrilling book that keep you thinking you know what is going to happen but something totally different happens and the female lead character nina is a type one diabetic and everything that concerns a type 1 diabetic happens no way of tracking blood sugars ect .and you are wondering if you will survive your 12 hour shift and two dangerous men want you dead brilliant book highly recommended.

I love Gemma Rogers’ books and this new thriller was no exception. Her writing conveys all of the emotions of Nina and her determination on her night shift at a storage facility. It’s fast-paced and action-packed. Readers are in for a real thrill ride!

Nina is a young college student working a solo overnight 12-hr shift at an indoor storage facility. When a suspicious customer comes and goes throughout the night her suspicion leads to a cat & mouse chase throughout the night with Nina fearing for her life. Will she escape the night alive?

A super slow start and then the next 80% of this novel felt like a really bad, low budget horror film. Nina was absolutely so dumb that it made me want to just get through the book as quickly as possible because it was just so unbelievable that someone could be that stupid, especially someone top of her class in medical school. I respect the diabetes aspect of the book, but she made some super dumb calls as a diabetic who knew her blood sugar would cause her issues throughout the night. How many times did you complain you were getting hypoglycemic and passed your snack drawer but didn't stop to grab something? Over and over and over and over again, she made really poor judgement calls. Hide or fight were her options and she just couldn't make up her mind. She would hide, but then when emerging from her hiding place she failed to obtain a weapon (numerous items were available to use as a weapon). When she did obtain a weapon, she would take like one swing and drop it and run. Like come on girl, you never drop your weapon, and you never stop hitting until they're unconscious or dead! Overall, this 80% portion of the book kind of felt like I was watching that Geico horror movie commercial that makes fun of the poor decisions of horror movie characters.

On a positive note, I did enjoy the ending and learning what these antagonists were really up to. That was a breath of fresh air from the never ending cat & mouse. Although, there were some random aspects to the conclusion that felt like an over-forced "twist" that just wasn't necessary.

This book was exhausting! The first 30% maybe - scared me, lol! Was like my worst nightmare coming true.

I found the middle part a little repetitive and slow and then things started to unravel. Loved the ending, not drawn out, summed everything up and I wasn’t left with unanswered questions.

This was the first book by this author I've read and I loved it! It was actually really creepy and tense and I couldn't put it down wondering what would happen next! A great plot and brilliant ending. Can't wait to read more from this author!

The Night Shift by new to me author Gemma Rogers, published by Boldwood Books, is a literally unputdownable read. I just wanted to take a peek, but hours later I read the last page, couldn't believe what I was reading, loved every minute.
An unputdonable pageeturner, a mystery/thriller of its finest, brilliantly written, twisty and full of unexpctd turns that had me guessing till the last page. I recommend the book, 5 stars.

I feel like the premise of The Night Shift might be better suited to a movie than a book; it was an interesting setup, but by about 100 pages in I felt like it had kind of played itself out and I wasn't really looking forward to the next 100 pages. It's also written in almost a stream of consciousness style, which I'm sure was intentional but didn't work for me. The book was interesting enough to make me want to finish it and find out what would happen, but overall I just found it a little too drawn out.

Amazing! I loved the premise and thought it sounded a bit different from the norm so was keen to see if it delivered and boy did it! The protagonist is so likeable, the story had me on the edge of my seat, there were so many plot twists and turns that I never expected in a million years and everything gets tied up with no plot holes. Definitely recommend

Rarely does a book grab my attention right off the bat, enticing me to continue reading even when I have other things to take care of. Well, it just so happens that this book did just that!

Nina works the overnight shift by herself at a storage facility. Nina just gets herself settled in for the night at her desk when she thinks she hears a human screaming.

Spending twelve hours at night by yourself at a storage facility has got to be nerve-wracking, but even more so with creepy customers coming and going.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, and I found myself yelling outloud at some of the ridiculous decisions Nina made. I definitely recommend this high-action thriller!

Absolutely loved this book. Very tense and chilling with a likeable protagonist. Lots of twists I didn’t expect. Epilogue wrapped everything up nicely.

Good fast paced book, was a decent read. Great characters good and bad. Enjoyed the ending.

Nina has just broken up with her boyfriend. She is a medical student and works night shifts at a storage facility to fund her studies. What’s starts as a client coming in one night acting suspiciously, results in a night long game of cat and mouse where survival is the prize.

This was so good. A total page turner. My heart was beating really fast at times as I could feel Nina’s fear and anxiety. The majority of the story is first person from Nina, this was really powerful as allowed me to completely be in the moment. There were a few chapters flashbacks of the past-these added to the storyline well. This kept me gripped right up until the end. I didn’t know who to trust. Just when I thought Nina was safe, something else would happen. In that sense it was maybe too long a book, however I would argue that the story being about the whole nightshift and all the twists and turns in her shift; it was the perfect length. I really got her fear and the stress of how much longer could she evade her attackers.

Definitely a must read!

A ‘locked room’ ish thriller set in ‘Storage Queen’ ( gotta love the name ) where we meet night shift worker Nina who is hoping for a quiet,stress free 12 hours……..unfortunately the universe has decided the opposite and Nina could not imagine what she is about to go through…..

It is a taut,frantic read ( good frantic ) where as soon as the action starts it pretty much is non stop,there are a few chapters where some of the characters stories are told and I found these helpful and an integral part of the story,I’m not 100% sure why but I liked Stacey ( Nina’s boss ) a flawed character if ever there was one but also vulnerable and kind

Nina has type 1 diabetes,an illness the author has much experience with as explained in her emotive ‘authors note’ and I think a top job was made of explaining how it affected Nina and the true complex nature of the illness and how it can change from minute to minute,however don’t think this is a medical essay kind of read as it’s not but we are made aware of Nina’s struggles due to her diabetes

It’s fast,punchy,full on and set within a time frame ( something always enjoy in a book ) and has the right mix of action,dialogue and suspense

The author always writes.a great read and continues to do so with this differently exciting all encompassing book

How can one 12-hour night shift be so deadly? I loved the anonymity, flexibility and solitude that working the night shift at Storage Queen gave me. The unsociable hours paid well, helping me fund my university degree and giving me a quiet place to study while the world slept peacefully in their warm, cozy beds. It was the perfect job for me. But that Friday night proved to be more than I bargained for when a man walked through the door, dragging a large suitcase. My immediate instincts told me something was wrong. That’s when my ordeal began. I just had to make it through the night shift! Great read! Wow! Definitely a heart pounder! This book had nail biting suspense, murder, great mystery, intriguing, great cat and mouse, and some wild and shocking twists! The story was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! 🌟 Review: Edge of the seat thriller! Pulled in within the first few pages and kept engaged for the whole ride. I was right there anxious with Nina wondering if she’d make it through! The excitement never stopped; I’ll absolutely be on the look out for more of Gemma’s books!!

This was nowhere near as good as Gemma’s usual books. I skimmed the entire thing. Seemed like one big run on scene with a shock at the end.

An interesting storyline set over the course of one night.
Suspenseful and gripping.
Slightly unbelievable at times.
Having read everything by this wonderful author it wasn't my favourite but still an exciting read.
