"The Favourite Child" is a heart wrenching, emotional and teary book about Erica, Andrew and their twins Mollie and Ben. Ben has special needs and Mollie doesn't get much of her mums attention as Erica makes it her mission to be there for Ben 24/7. But at what cost? And will it be too late when she realises that Mollie needs her? This book is written with so much emotion that I laughed and cried while reading it. The story grabbed my full attention from the first chapter and I couldn't put it down. An all around brilliant book for anyone who loves warm heartfelt and heartwrenching books!

The Favourite Child was my first Emma Robinson and it won't be my last. I was drawn in from the beginning but, the ending was a little drawn out in my opinion. The characters where likeable and I found myself routing for them through the book. Except Ben (the husband), I did not like him until about 3/4 of the way through. There are many storylines happening that contribute to the complexity of the story. The topics explored are very current and relatable. This book would appeal to many as it crosses many genres in my opinion, e.g., women's fiction, family drama, etc.

Thank you NetGalley, Emma Robinson and Bookoture for the opportunity to preview this novel. The opinions shared are my own.
It is expected to be released Feb. 28, 2025.

Erica and Andrew's twins Ben and a daughter Mollie are both very different and have different needs.

Ben is severely autistic, and Ericafeels that he needs her more so she he gets the most attention.

Mollie feels that she is less worthy and when an insident happens at her school things for the family change.

Its difficult being a parent and at times you don't always do the right things..

This is an emotional read and it is also a book that makes you think what you would have done.

It is a superbly written and well told story and I really loved it.. It did pull at my heartstrings and I am happy to recommend it

The Favourite Child is a quick, engaging and emotional read that promises to tug at your heartstrings from beginning to end. In short, this one is everything you would expect from the incomparable Emma Robinson.

Erika and Andrew are thrilled when they are blessed with beautiful twins Mollie and Ben. But as Ben's special needs begin to take a toll on the family, Erika knows that she must put her child's needs above all else, but at what cost to her marriage and her sweet, independent daughter?

This is a domestic drama that explores a wife's devotion, a mother's duty, and how to move forward when your heart is ripped in half. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetĢalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

This is a very raw, heartfelt story. Erica and Andrew have twins. A boy Ben and a daughter Mollie. Ben is severely autistic, and Erica is the parent who cares for him and his needs. Andrew is a police inspector who lets Erica deal with the hard things. Mollie is the perfect sister, daughter and student until there is an incident. Mollie steals money from her teacher and is caught red handed. Refusing to tell why, her parents are at a loss. Meanwhile, Erica moves to an apartment close to the special needs school that Ben goes to. Mollie feels abandoned, Andrew blames Erica, and she is just overwhelmed. When this becomes a criminal case with Mollie a victim, the family needs to come together. Anxiety, hopelessness and the fear of not being everything your child needs makes a book that makes you think, cry and hope for a better world for kids. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and I highly recommend it.

Oooph. Hits you right in the feels. As a mother of multiples and a neurodivergent kiddo. I cannot even imagine going through all that this family went through. It's so hard to know if your don't the right thing for all of them. Loved this book so much. Couldn't put it down.

My Favourite Child- Emma Robinson
A brilliantly tense and enticing intro that made me eager to read on and left me with so many questions.
The story centres on Erica and her family. Erica and her husband Andrew are the parents of twins and the story opens on fire that destroys the family home and maybe the family too?
The twins Mollie and Ben are so different. Ben has additional needs and requires a lot of time and attention which obviously leaves Mollie fighting for the attention of her parents.
My heart goes out to Mollie as it must be hard living in the shadows of her brother. It's easy to get frustrated with Erica and Andrew and how they handle parenting the twins but I think in reality, it's a very complex dynamic that's hard to manage.
Mollie goes missing and Erica and Andrew race to find her.
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was an interesting look at the complexities of parenting a child with additional needs and also seeing it from the perspective of the "forgotten child".
I flew through this book and enjoyed it from start to finish.
I thought particularly in this novel. That the use of multiple narrators added to the story because we got to see the story play out from the different perspectives, parent and child. Very intelligent use of multiple narrators.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Do people have a favourite child? I don't really know because I only have one child and they are my favourite one. I guess you can like and dislike certain characteristics in your children, but that goes for all the people around you, right?

If you have a child who needs more care than another one, you automatically invest more in that one. It does not mean you love them more, but it might feel that way for the sibling. After all they must be your favourite because of all the attention and time you give them. That way of thinking is very understandable, but that does not mean it's true. In my opinion, you know what you are doing, but what else can you do and in the end you don't only 'forget' about the other child, but also about your relationship with your partner and the time you should take for yourself.

Sometimes you have to make choices that will rip your heart apart, but sometimes being to protective makes the situation worse instead of making it better. Sometimes you have to replace your heart with a stone what some choices are concerned in order to make a whole family better.

It's a sad and at the same time very beautiful story. Sometimes you have to wade through difficult decisions in order to reach a peaceful and happy place for everyone.

I loved it. My heart that broke in lots of pieces, was glued together again. 5 stars

Thank you

What a heartbreaking story, I have a cousin with special needs so I know the struggles that parents have to go through just to get a basic education, these people are absolute heroes and I’m glad that the author highlighted this issue as it sadly gets ignored. Anyway back to the book, due to the storm, we were not at work so I could just keep reading . It’s a 5 star review from me

Erica and Andrew are separated which also led to the separation of their twin children, Mollie and Benjamin. Benjamin has special needs and Erica’s life revolves around him while Mollie is struggling with issues of her own but she doesn’t feel that she can speak to her mom about the issues so she tries to handle them herself. This book takes you on a rollercoaster ride of events and emotions and will have you feeling so many different ways about the characters throughout the book. This is sure to be a bestseller!

This book is raw and real and will have your emotions all over the place. This book made me feel sad and mad and happy, all in waves throughout the book. As a mom to a daughter myself, parts of this book really hurt my heart and had me sympathizing with Erica but there were also parts of the book where I wanted to reach through the pages and shake her and Andrew. This story is the sad reality of what families can face and how your life can be turned upside down in an instant.

Thank you, Bookouture, for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

The Favourite Child by new to me author Emma Robinson, published by Bookouture, is a gripping, raw and gritty story that had me in tears more than one time.
A missing daughter, decisions have to be made, sacrifices maybe too.
A pageturner that grips you with bothe hands and doesn't let go anymore - I recommend the book, 5 stars.

Erica had to make a fateful decision 5 years ago and this potentially has ruined her relationship with her now teenage daughter Mollie. The needs of Mollie's twin brother Ben means the family set up has been temporarily separated, but does husband Andrew want this to become more permanent. To begin with I found Erica's character slightly annoying, I felt she was acting the martyr and shutting the family out but as time wore on her actions became clearer. My heart broke for Mollie in places
Relatable characters and realistic storylines are the basis of Emma's books and the fact she draws on experiences of friends and family really shows through. Sure to be another bestseller
