Like all books from The School of Life, this book is another excellent resource for growth and healing. It outlines suggestions for healing trauma and an above all is an encouraging read despite the subject. It offers clear insights into understanding trauma and exploring its symptoms like dissociation, catastrophising, shame, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts.

The book includes reflective exercises to help readers process emotions and memories at their own pace and practical strategies to manage triggers and navigate challenging emotions with self-compassion.

Anyone with complex trauma or PTSD I would advise reading this book alongside seeking support from a qualified counsellor.

Overall, this is a compassionate and supportive resource for anyone on a healing journey. I highly recommended for anyone seeking deeper understanding and personal growth.

Thank you to The School for Life and NetGalley for providing an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. Available in stores June 5th.

I am beginning to sound like a School of Life fanboy, but this is another wonderful entry in a long line of informative and invaluable books from SoL.

This book serves as a comprehensive guide for those seeking to understand and heal from trauma, blending psychological insights with practical exercises. It is structured into sections that explore the causes and symptoms of trauma, followed by strategies for processing and relocating it. The writing is clear and accessible, making complex concepts easier to grasp. However, readers with specific or complex trauma likely will find the content broad. The book's gentle and non-judgmental tone is a highlight, encouraging self-awareness and self-compassion throughout the healing journey. Overall, it's a valuable resource for those beginning their path to recovery, but it will require supplementary guidance for deeper issues.

This book is a fantastic resource for self Help, self care and healing from trauma. The workbook is self healing and helping therapy which guides you through your journey. Personally for me I found it very hard to focus and follow through the workbook as it is not exactly written for those with Childhood Complex Trauma-PTSD. I have attempted to read but found that it gave me an overwhelming feeling that I first needed to get appropriate support of therapy before embarking on following this journey in the workbook. I highly recommend that if reading this book gives you triggers as it did for me please seek professional guidance and theory then return to this workbook.

It isn’t often that I find myself flagging, noting, and highlighting a book. I found this book both informative and validating while also an easy read. Many books feel very fluffy and this was rather concise. As a therapist this is something I’d buy a physical copy of for my shelf and loan out as needed, just feels very fitting for my office and some of my clients.

This book provides an outstanding overview of trauma, its nature, and the pathways to healing. It leans heavily on the psychodynamic perspective, but for those who love the search for insight and a path forward, this book will keep you engaged and thinking deeply about our past, present, and future. Among the best things about reading books written by the School of Life are the powerful metaphors and examples. This book does not disappoint.

From Trauma to Healing by The School of Life is worth the read! It is hands down the best "self help" books that I have read!

The book is broken into five sections: causes of trauma, symptoms of trauma, relocating trauma, processing trauma and the conclusion.

The book begins with the psychological look as to why trauma happens, and what it is defined as. It then goes on to explore the many symptoms of trauma. It lists and explores: disassociation, catastrophic thinking, shame, suicide, perfectionism, conflict aversion, masochism, paranoia, chronic anxiety, hyper vigilance, intrusive thoughts, unrequited relationships, cynicism, people-pleasing, addiction, bodily symptoms, a feeling of ugliness, insomnia, fame seeking and over achieving.

The book then takes you through some writing/thinking exercises that are designed to help you process and move through trauma at your own pace on your path to healing. It also gives you helpful things to pause and think about when something triggers unpleasant memories.

Thank you to The School for life for working with NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

This book is a thoughtful and compassionate guide to understanding and recovering from psychological wounds. It effectively balances psychological theory with practical advice, presenting complex concepts in a clear and accessible way without feeling overwhelming.

One of its strengths is the gentle, non-judgemental tone, which acknowledges the challenges of processing trauma while offering insightful reflections and practical steps to support the healing journey. Rather than promoting a one-size-fits-all approach, it encourages self-awareness and self-compassion.

While the book provides a solid foundation, its broad approach may not delve deeply enough for those seeking more specialised guidance on complex or specific traumas.

Definitely worth a read!

From Trauma to Healing is pocket book length compact healing book that tackles trauma with several engaging exercises and frameworks.
It has a diverse range of approaches, and as common in the TSoL books, the essay-like paragraphs are lovely to read.
