I truly enjoyed listening to this book, and my 9 yr old also got a kick out of it. I maybe dating myself, but I was excited to listen to this book, as when I was in middle school my shop teacher and home ec teacher were actually married to each other. I love the flipping of the normal with Mr. Phelps being in home ec and Mrs. Phelps being the shop teacher. It opens up the real world mind of everyone can do anything and you are not locked into social norms.

The audio book, My Weirdtastic School #7 Mr. and Mrs. Phelps Need Some Help, by Dan Gutman is a marvelous children's book. It is inclusive and is full of honophones. It's perfect for 3-4 grade grammar/phonics lessons.
Book diversity is carried out throughout. When the class students are presented with the opportunity to cook, sew, or learn woodworking, they are hesitant. Two teachers, husband and wife, decide to teach two classes. One class is a typical home economics and the other is a shop class. The children were very surprised to find Mr. Phelps will be teaching home economics while Mrs. Phelps runs the shop. They break stereotype by representing the opposite career choice. The kids found their new life skill classes very enjoyable.
During the story the Phelps' show mutual love and understanding. They also enjoy playing tricks on each other.. Their most recent shenanigans, gone awry, forced them into a riff. The teachers work as a team, with a little help from there students, returning them back in "love" by books end.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to listen and review this story. I look forward to sharing with my own students.
