*Thanks to Net Galley and Harlequin Audio for arc*

This steamy second chance romance has a lot of interesting things going for it. So things I enjoyed include the dual point of view that let you understand the struggles that each person is dealing with. The complicated past as well as complicated family our main character's have and Teagan's friend group, because it is always a good thing to see women supporting each other.

Now because I listened to the audiobook it is disappointing that we did not get a separate narrator for Dominic's perspective. The female narrator speaking from his voice sounded awkward and unappealing. Also Teagan's lack of communication with Dominic about his side of events was beyond frustrating. These two felt like they were going in circles around each other, with the only thing they agreed on was how sexy the other one was.

With that being said if you can get beyond these frustrations it is a decent romance.

This book made me super uncomfortable so I had to quit reading it. The repeated descriptions from the MMC of the FMC’s youthful body and how inexperienced she was in bed is creepy.

Pros: second chance/enemies to lovers in one? Yes please!!! Teagan tried as she might not to fall back into Dominic, but she played herself. I love when they went skating, and what happened afterwards 😏 The spicy scenes were nasty…but the love between them wasn’t lost, even though it had been twelve years.

Cons: this story was dual POV, but there was only one narrator. I would’ve loved to have a male narrator as well. Idk whose parent was worse: Teagan’s father or Don’s mother. They were both horrible.

Final thoughts: I need to read the first five books to learn about all the Gems. There’s so much more I want to say, but I don’t want to give too much away.

Teagan used to play tennis until an injury ended her chance at a career. Now she is a real-estate broker and she is very focused on her career. Until her ex Dominic comes back into the picture during a tennis tournament stirring up feelings again. This book has a very fun premise and Dominic is a great book boyfriend. My issues with this book stem with Teagan mostly. She is holding on to a lot of stuff from her past and needs to do the work to let go of it and move on. She often takes her anger out on Dominic for things he didn't do and he caves and apologies when he wasn't in the wrong.

Teagan, girl I saw so much of myself in you. Not thinking you are enough, not dealing with your past, running from your true love but having some dope friends to support and love you through it all. I loved this story so much! I loved the black tennis stars, second chance, small town, big gossip, boss babe, he was always the one, let me love you, you should have told your daddy where to go along time, supportive friends type of black romance. Easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!!! Thank you Yahrah St. John and NetGallery for this amazing opportunity to listen to his audiobook. And the narration was chef kiss!!!

📖 +🎧: Break Point-Six Gems #6-read as a standalone

✍🏾 Author: Yahrah St. John-new to me author

📅Publication date: 2-25-25 | Read 2-23-25

📃eBook: 288 pgs.

🗣️Narrator: LaDonna Raeh voices all the characters with standouts from Teagan and Dominic. The reading style brought the text to life, and the author and narrator worked together perfectly. The pacing and flow allowed me to get lost in the story. The narrator paused and announced new chapters and there was a table of contents which helped me follow along.

Summary: Teagan gave up her successful tennis career after injuring her meniscus, getting her heart broken by Dominic, and being blackballed. Now she's in real estate and needs clients, so she agrees to be sponsored in a charity tournament at Phoenix Country Club where Dominic is also participating.

👩🏾 Heroine: Teagan Williams-31, She was a tennis star but now runs her own brokerage agency-Williams & Associates

👨🏾 Hero: Dominic Fletcher- 32, ranked #1 best tennis player. Raised by single mother Grace Fletcher and has 3 siblings (Justice, Ciara, and Bliss) each with different fathers.

* Russell Williams-Teagan's father hated that she gave up tennis. He verbally abuses his daughter and Teagan's mother

🤔 My Thoughts: I wanted this for the cover not knowing this was the last book of the series. I didn't feel like I missed anything because the focus was strictly on the main couple Teagan and Dominic. Both had family issues and suffered from a lack of communication, but they found their way back to each other after twelve years. I will definitely go back and read the series in its entirety.

For the audiobook specifically, the book was dual POV, but the narrator was the same for both. Not only that, but the narrator didn't change their voice or tone whatsoever. This was a bit off confusing and unenjoyable for me.

For the story, the amount of designer brands thrown into the descriptions was odd. Then we learn that the FMC's business is struggling, all the while we also learn she has a Birkin bag? While I know that a Birkin bag is not enough to keep a business afloat, it was still off putting.

The MMC isn't giving me much. He's successful and pays for his mom to live an extravagant lifestyle.

I wanted to love this so much, but unfortunately this book wasn't for me.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review the ALC.

I received this ARC today and was able to finish it today as well.

Teagan and Dominic both Tennis players, this story was fun, exciting, and spicy.

This enemies to lover's trope showed how the dynamics of forgiveness was wonderfully executed! The story was beautifully written and showed heartfelt moments between Dominic and Teagan, he loved her so much but was afraid of Russ.
I enjoyed this story a lot, it was fresh and it's my 2nd Sports Romance book. The characters lost trust, communication, and forgiveness.

It showed how Teagan was afraid to stand up for herself when it came to her feelings and her father, and Dominic was afraid to say No to his mother's spending habit, I understand that Dominic wanted to take care of his family, but with their spending habits he would soon go broke if he didn't put an end to it.

Russ, Teagan fathers was very controlling and not only was he being a Narcissist he also forced Dominic to leave Teagan because "HE" felt like he was being the Best Controlling Father. I am so glad that Teagan mothers found her voice and stood up for what was right!

The love between Dominic and Teagan was really beautiful and entertaining, I am so glad they found their way back to one another, True Love.

Forgiveness changes everything!

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin for the Audio in exchange for my honest opinion!

I really wanted to love this book, the premise was fantastic. Second chance romance with a hint of enemies to lovers. Tennis prodigy and then a different career path? Sign me up.

Teagan, could have really used some therapy. It’s clear that her inability to move on from her career ending tennis injury affected all of the relationships in her life. She was quick to be angry and unwilling to let go of the past. Her chemistry with her first love Dominic was there but he had to concede everything without her ever hearing him out. He in fact had not given her any reason not to trust him and yet she acted out on him. Constantly. Especially since she had ended the relationship in the first place.

Also it’s probably petty of me but sometimes it’s the little things that break the immersion for me. The constant stating of car makes and models or designer items just didn’t flow naturally into the dialogue. Not to mention we are supposed to believe she is struggling to keep her real estate business afloat when she wins broker of the year two years in a row? That’s not an award for popularity, it’s an award based on production and success. You don’t win it if your company isn’t doing well. I can’t even begin to get started on the fact that her mom woke up one day and decided to stop letting her dad control her to the point that she was an absentee mother. That is a delicate topic to tackle and isn’t just resolved by deciding you were over the control.

The narrator was ok, it was hard to differentiate between the characters that were speaking as they were all done in such a slight deviation.

Overall the story was fine with a great conclusion. It just had the potential to be fantastic with a few minor adjustments.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the advanced audiobook.

After reading a different tennis romance novel, I was excited to read BREAK POINT--about a failed tennis prodigy who has to reconnect with the man who broke her heart in order to save her business--but I couldn't stick with this. The stakes of Teagan possibly losing her real estate brokerage didn't feel like real stakes connected to whether she reunites with Dominic or not. And while the sexual tension between the characters crackles, the story around the characters felt repetitive.

The sixth and final Gems book featuring strong Black women finding love in middle age is a second chance sports romance between a former tennis star turned real estate agent and her ex, a current pro tennis player who wants another shot. Heartfelt, emotional and full of drama, this was a fun read. It does have a bit of an eye-rolling third act break up that made me want to shake the MCs and yell at them to just COMMUNICATE but aside from that it was a satisfying end to a series about female friendship and found family. Recommended for fans of authors like Karmen Lee or other second chance tennis sports romance books like Clean point by Meg Jones. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
