Netgalley ARC - 3.5 stars. A quick and relatively simple story that aims to showcase our main characters curiousity and talents in STEM. I think it was missing an element of the story or maybe just a bit of pizzazz.

This book is the cutest thing I have seen. My dinosaur obsessed son LOVED this! The illustrations are super cute, it was informative and super fun to read!

I wanted to like this book because it sounded fun and celebrating STEM. However, for a book about STEM, I feel like it completely misses the point by having a fantasy ending and falling hard into stereotypes.
Of course the Stemosaurus small nerdy and weak (big stereotypes here). His friends are not mentioned by pronouns but are called guys and are more masculine coded. So great a book about STEM that seems to be without any women or girls (but at least they can be made up).
Parents and educators might recognise some equations, pulleys, and other scientific inventions the Stemosaurus creates and can discuss them with kids. However they aren't explained in the book. Spike the Stemosaurus creates a time machine to escape the meteor collision which is a fun ending but not plausible at all, which I find disappointing in a book about STEM.
When they land in our present we see humans of different skin tones, girls in the playground, and a kid in a wheelchair so at least there is a bit of diversity shown there.
The ebook displays well on my tablet except that it shows two page spreads in landscape mode so it requires some zooming manipulation to read properly. The font is well legible to me.

I love how they used Spikes "weaknesses" to the advantage of the dinosaurs. It was just a heartfelt story about an odd dinosaur that ended up saving his friends.

There are so many great lessons in this book! From demonstrating teamwork, to explaining dinosaur history to showing how everyone has a skill, this book is so well rounded. I loved all the colors and diagrams included in this book as well! Overall, this was such.a fun time!

STEM-o-saurus saves the day in this cute and funny, well illustrated book about a dinosaur who uses his skills to save the species.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

More than Mundane Dinosaurs
Dual meanings hit home with this book. It addresses part of dinosaur history along with everyone having different skills to contribute and round out a group. This drives home accomplishing a goal as a group
The illustrations make me feel like I stepped into an approachable dinosaur environment. Colorful and carefully crafted in it’s whimsical layout
This story gives a group dynamic element and discussion. I think it could also work well 1:1 at home.
I received a copy of this book from Andrew Root. I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.

A kids book not only about dinosaurs but also teaching them about science. The illustrations and format of this book was so vibrant and jovial, If I were a kid I would have loved this.

I won't lie... I will pick up any book with a dinosaur on the cover. But a dinosaur in STEM is rare indeed! I enjoyed the illustrations in this book and the spunky characterization of each different dino. The plot twist was great too - if only some dinos could have escaped this way!

Kids love dinosaurs. Even older kid adore them. Stemosaurus celebrates the littlest dinosaur, Spike, that doesn’t have any particular skill, until a meteor is set to hit earth. Knowledge of STEM has given Spike a way to survive a catastrophic event. And survive they do 64 million years later.
This book is cute and wonderfully illustrated. I love the brilliant colors and art

Stemosaurus was adorable and I will definitely be picking up a copy for my 3 and 1 year old boys.
In addition to teaching about dinosaurs, it has a wonderful message about knowing and valuing your strengths. As a group, the dinosaurs come together as a team to solve a difficult problem. Their solution utilizes each individual’s strengths and they work together to reach a desired outcome. Spike, self conscious of his high intelligence, proves pivotal to the group. Spike shows the reader that brains are just as important as brawn.
The illustrations were super cute and engaging. The speech bubbles were a little excessive and made the main text feel choppy and disrupted the flow. It was difficult to decipher in what order I should read the page.
I will definitely be recommending Stemosaurus to my mom friends with dino loving toddlers!
Thank you to NetGalley, Two Lions, and Andrew Root for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this cute picture book about Spike the Stemosaurus and quite frankly Spike was the perfect name for the dinosaur. I want more dino picture books as an adult.

If you’ve got a little one who loves dinosaurs and science, Stemosaurus is a must-read! Meet Spike, the brainy little dino who may not be the biggest or strongest, but he’s definitely the smartest. While the other dinosaurs roar and stomp, Spike is busy solving problems, building inventions, and using math to understand the world. So when a giant meteor threatens to wipe out his friends, it’s up to him to save the day!
This fun, STEM-focused adventure is perfect for curious kids who love science, creativity, and, of course, dinosaurs. With an inspiring message about using your smarts to make a difference, it’s a great pick for storytime—or any time!

A book with so much imagination which I think dinosaur lovers would enjoy. I think my nephews would enjoy reading this book and going on an adventure while reading it. It made me smile reading it so I can tell a lot of kids would aswell. I enjoyed seeing all the colorful illustrations.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an eARC.

I am a huge STEM advocate for children and I LOVE books that feature STEM elements. So I jumped at the chance to read this picture book!
In a nutshell, Stemosaurus saves the day by building a time machine to save himself and his friends from a meteor that is about to crash into the planet. The illustrations are vibrant, playful, and amazing, and the story is charming and unpredictable, ranging from delightful to downright silly… which is perfect for young readers. The ending is particularly entertaining.
The text is straightforward and fairly easy for young readers, but the story does introduce some STEM terms like aerodynamic, contraptions, math, calculations, diagramming, formulate, design, create, test, analyze, and evaluate. Dinosaur names are also included.
Along with problem solving, the story also highlights teamwork and being yourself, which makes it a well-rounded story.
I definitely recommend this for young readers, and it would be particularly great for a classroom library.
Thank you @netgalley and Two Lions for an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A fun, cute children's book that explains science theory to young readers. Perfect for kids 6-7. Bright, easy to see designs that clearly show each dinosaur's individuality. Spike is a character that many elementary age learners can empathize with and understand.

I personally think every children's book should be made with dinosaurs.
This book was funny and a great read aloud and visually. The quote bubbles of the different characters, the colors and the fonts will make for a great group read.
I especially loved the ending and the use of the time machine.
Can't wait to recommend this book to friends, families, and colleagues.

You can't really go wrong with dinosaurs, and this book is so cute and quirky. Kids will crack up while they're learning STEM concepts. Every elementary school classroom should have this.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Stemosaurus is a quirky, colorful, fun picture story about dinosaurs and one brave and clever dino in particular. Written by Andrew Root and illustrated by Mark Chambers, it's due out 22nd July 2025 from Brilliance (Amazon) on their Two Lions imprint. It's 40 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book will be included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.
The illustrations are whimsical, beautiful, and colorfully appealing. There are lots of small details (like the flowers, background figures, scenery details) which invite readers to stop and take a closer look. The text is in simple free verse and easy enough for new readers to master and understand. It's also a great candidate for a read along in the classroom (with "roar-alongs" from students) or a read-together with an older sibling or adult.
The basic message of being yourself, problem solving, love of reading/learning, and diversity are all positively presented in a simple and accessible manner.
Four stars. A delightful read and it would make a great selection for public, school, or classroom acquisition, home use, or gift giving.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Roar-some fun with STEM!
I absolutely loved this book! Stemosaurus is a dino-sized delight—full of charm, humor, and just the right dose of STEM magic. From the moment the quirky, lovable characters stomp onto the page, kids are hooked! The story cleverly sets up a problem, takes us on a giggle-worthy journey, and lands on a fantastic resolution—all while making STEM feel like an exciting adventure.
The playful speech bubbles, expressive illustrations (which are amazingly cute!), and laugh-out-loud moments make this book a joy to read aloud. And that ending? Oh, it sparks curiosity in the best way, leaving little readers eager to ask questions and explore more!
As a teacher, I would absolutely use this in my classroom—even with my eighth graders! It’s such a fantastic way to introduce STEM concepts in a way that’s fun, engaging, and totally unforgettable.
Perfect for budding scientists, dino fans, and anyone who loves a story that’s as brainy as it is fun.
A massive thank you to Andrew Root, Two Lions and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my thoughts. Stemosaurus releases July 22nd—and you do not want to miss it!
