A lot to like about this grammar book. Clear and concise, with lots and lots of examples to make things even clearer. Definitely a book to keep and look at again and again because there will be things to check or just to be digested slowly. Grammar is a strange thing. I never really learned the rules. Just absorbed it all through reading lots and lots of books since childhood. For sure the best way to learn the language, especially if it is not your mother tongue! But this book will help solidify it all for me as someone who is still learning.

First, let me say that there is a lot, lot, lot, lot of information in this book. It is more than a refresher on grammar rules. It's more like the Holy Grail of grammar rules—learn them all and you will rule the grammar world!

Very educational. Very thorough. It's too much information for my mind to hold all at once, but it is a valuable reference for crosschecking grammar rules and clarifying uncertainties.

A solid resource for grammar.

As someone who loves books and writing, I’m almost embarrassed to admit that for as long as I can remember grammar has been the bane of my existence. Every one of my English teachers could easily attest to this fact. That’s why over the years I’ve read a ton of books on grammar, trying to drill the rules into my head, hoping to come across the right teacher that will make it click with me. I’ve actually read Susan Thurman’s original version of this book, but that was way back in 04 or 05, so I was excited to check out again all these years later in it’s new updated version. I’ll be honest and admit I can’t recall what I thought when originally reading it. But is this the last book on grammar you’ll ever need? Maybe, maybe not. I think that might all depends on just what you do for a living, though I will say it’s fairly comprehensive and likely more than adequate for your average high school or college student. Thurman’s writing/teaching style is quite good, clear and precise, with good examples for all the rule and grammar topics she covers. This is the kind of book I’d tend to go with in physical form versus digital, simply because personally I find it much easier to flip through physical reference books, of course that’s just me. If you’re in need of a book on grammar, this would be a solid choice. I’d like to thank Adams Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of The Only Grammar Book You'll Ever Need, Updated Edition.

This was very insightful. I forgot how much I loved English and grammar until I started reading this textbook. Do I always get the rules right? Yeah no. Hardly ever. 😅 Will I remember what I learned? Gosh, I sure do hope so because I need the help. 😂 But I enjoyed reading the rules and laws of grammar so I can apply it into my life and writing.

I received a free digital arc from the publishers via NetGalley. All opinions and statements are my own.

I think it is true that this may well be “The Only Grammar Book You’ll Ever Need.” It is absolutely jam packed with information and examples.

This is a title that can be used as a reference when needed or browsed in, simply because it is interesting. There are lots of opportunities to test one’s knowledge.

There are sections on parts of speech, sentence structure, verbs, pronouns, punctuation and how to write. All are worth a look.

Those who want to write clearly and correctly will find much that is useful in these pages. Whether it is emails, blog posts, academic papers, reviews, or letters, correct grammar can help the writer to be respected.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Adams Media for this title. All opinions are my own.

I found this book interesting. It was definitely a good refresher for those of us that write for a living. I thought some sections were very dense with materials or were basic concepts, but it was a good overview of grammar rules.

*An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Adams Media provided an early galley for review.

The English language has so many rules, most of which I was taught many decades ago in my life while I was still taking English courses in school. This book serves very much as a handy refresher course. I was actually impressed with how much I remembered.

Besides covering all the standard grammar topics as well as the parts of sentences, the book also includes quizzes at the end of each chapter so the reader can test what they have learned. The appendices in the back are also useful: 1100 frequently misspelled words, suggested substitutes for wordy phrases, and and links to several helpful grammar and writing websites.

I would strongly recommend this one to all of my writing folks.

The Only Grammar Book You’ll Ever Need is a really extensive book about grammar. It is well organized and contains thorough explanations about various parts of grammar. There are a ton of great examples to explain each concept. I particularly like the section about commonly misspelled words. This is a great book for people who want a grammar refresher or for those who may struggle with grammar. I think this would even be a great book for students. This seems like the type of book everyone should own if only just for reference.
