Whilst this book is labelled a psychological thriller I can’t say it was really that. Yes there were some small twists and turns with the main character investigating the deaths of her friends, who seemed to die in the same way as a story she wrote as a teenager. But then there was a whole storyline about a huge storm coming, which in a way didn’t add to the story. The writing was very detailed, but it wasn’t up there with some of the books I’ve already read this year.

J.M. Cannon’s The Lost Girls is a gripping thriller following journalist Anna Klein as she races against time—and an impending hurricane—to track down a serial killer known for taking flash photographs of his victims before their disappearance. When the latest body is suspected to be her childhood friend, Anna dives into a dangerous game of cat and mouse, uncovering shocking secrets along the way. While the suspense and twists kept the story engaging, the convoluted plot and underwhelming reveal left something to be desired. Despite this, the chase and clues made for an exciting read, and I’d definitely pick up another book by this author. 3/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Embla Books, and J.M. Cannon for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

J.M. Cannon’s The Lost Girls is a gripping thriller packed with secrets, deception, and relentless suspense. From the very start, it’s clear that this is not just a simple mystery—every revelation leads to another hidden truth, making for a whirlwind of twists that keep readers on edge.
The novel follows Anna as she digs into the disappearance of her friends, known as The Lost Girls. What begins as a search for answers quickly spirals into a life-or-death game as Anna realizes that someone is determined to keep the truth buried—at any cost. With the killer potentially watching her every move, the tension steadily builds, creating a sense of urgency that makes this a true page-turner.
While the novel starts off a bit slow due to its intricate setup, once the story gains momentum, it becomes impossible to put down. Cannon’s writing skillfully balances suspense and character development, ensuring that the reader stays invested in Anna’s journey while piecing together the mystery alongside her.
Overall, The Lost Girls is an addictive read for fans of thrillers packed with unexpected turns. The layered storytelling and ever-unfolding secrets make for an engaging experience that will leave readers guessing until the very last page.

The Lost Girls by J.M Cannon is a fast-paced thriller that fills the reader with a sense of urgency from the very first chapter.
Four years ago three girls went missing, never to be seen again. Before each girl disappeared it seems they all had felt the same chilling feeling of being watched. Now, Anna Klein has never stopped looking for her friend Sylvie. Up until now she has only found dead ends but when a body is found in an abandoned mansion Anna hopes that she will finally find her best friend. But with a massive storm descending on the East Coast can Anna find out what really happened years ago before all hope is washed away?
This book is written so well that I was immediately hooked. I don't know if it was the overwhelming unanswered questions that I had along with Anna or if it was the immersive plot that sucked me in. Character development is strong and there are plenty of shady characters that increases the tension and doubt. Definitely going to keep an eye on J.M Cannon!
Thank you to NetGalley, J.M Cannon and Embla Books for this ARC. Expected publication date is February 27th 2025.

Once you open your kindle or book you will be gripped and it will be hard to put down.
The plot was very compelling with grisly crimes.
The characters are solid and engaging.
The book kept a good pace throughout and did a good job of building the tension.
The Lost Girls by J.M Cannon is a page turner for sure!

My… what a ride. At first, I thought it was going to be another predictable, but nothing is predictable at all. It’s like a thing after another, with a piece always adding up and connected until the very end so you never can guess what’s going on. I truly enjoyed reading it and it was impossible to put it down. Congratulations to the author and Thank you to Embla Books and NetGalley for sending me this ARC.

Such a great book. Couldn't stop reading it. Thank you for my advance reader copy. Can't wait to look up other books from this author.

Was this really J.M. Cannon’s first book? I’m blown away by that fact alone! Superbly written! Thank you NetGalley and Embla Books for this ARC.
I loved the premise of this book and went in mostly blind. Unfortunately, there are a lot of books out there with similar titles, so I allowed myself to read a few lines of the blurb. This story follows the disappearance and murder or 3 girls, and while vastly different, have something in common. While friend and amateur detective looks for clues to find out what really happened, she must race Mother Nature and the approaching hurricane.
I really did love this story. I felt it was way longer than it needed to be, but I was also impressed that the author took the time to write in detail and not just skip over parts. I wish there were more detail about the killings, but that would’ve changed the book completely. Maybe there’s a chance for a prequel. I found some of the information to be unnecessary, some of the characters too, but they also provided doubt along the way. Overall, I think it was well done.

2⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Embla Books for an advanced copy of The Lost Girls.
Anna is a journalist who hears about a body that is found and she goes to the scene to find out who it was. She believes it is the work of a serial killer who has killed two other women before. Could this be the body of her friend who went missing years ago. On top of investigating this murder there is also a hurricane headed there way. Can Anna prove what she has known all along? That there is a serial killer out there hunting women.
This story was all over the place and it was difficult to keep it all straight. There was also way too many stories being told at one time. The main plot has me intrigued but the jumping all of the place had the story dragging for me.

That was exciting! Trying to solve a mystery and trying to save yourself while the storm gets closer. The book is full of plot twists. I really hope this is the first book of a series, because even though everything was tied up nicely, there's room to create more stories.

I really enjoyed this book, for me it seemed like multiple stories were happening inside one for example the girls and the hurricane even though it was the same story it felt separate which kept it interesting.
I struggled trying to work out who it was, i kept flip flopping between people but I think that was intentional and it was great!
Overall a great book, can’t wait to read more from this author

Thank you to Netgalley and the UK publishers for an Advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my second JM Cannon novel, having previously read Blood Oranges. I was invested for much of the story. I loved the core concept of a serial killer enacting her online published stories and there was plenty doubt around her POV to have me intrigued.
I didnt really get the storm storyline, however, and I found the ending slightly disappointing and melodramatic unfortunately. It felt like 2 completely different books being pushed together, and it didn't fully work for me.
Overall though I would still recommend this read to others. JM Cannon writes great thrillers, and though the ending wasn't for me it certainly wasn't boring and may be for you.

this was a fast paced thriller. one where you felt the need to go along for the ride with our character Anna Klein. it felt like we were following and reflecting her feelings. the confusion and upset. the need to find what happened to these girls.
Anna suspects a serial killler. she also has more urgency as one of the 3 woman taken is her friend.
i liked how we were kept guessing. each chapter brought up new clues and new mysterious to send you down many different paths.
the ending i didnt see coming at all.
the added storm element felt like it added pace to the plot. as we all needed to know and find out what happened before the storm and or more danger hit.

The Lost Girls is a fast paced thriller with a feeling of urgency the whole way through. It’s definitely a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The plot twists were amazing, and it felt like there was one at the end of every chapter! Usually I’m pretty good at predicting twists in thrillers, but the majority of the twists in here were a pleasant surprise to me!
This book follows Anna Klein, who is a journalist who suspects her best friend was a victim of a serial killer, whose victims are known as the flash girls. I thought Anna was a really interesting character with so many layers, and I loved following her as she conducted her own investigation into her friend’s murder. There was also the added element of a dangerous storm during the entirety of this book, and that really added to the urgency of Anna’s investigation.
Overall, this was a great read and I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book on exchange for an honest review.

I felt this book was slow, just had a hard time getting into it. I did not care for the ending, it was a bit too much.

The Lost Girls by JM Cannon started off slow but then picked up as the story of the missing three girls unfolded. While it picked up as Anna’s back story was revealed, the ending was just too unbelievable, from the trailer park to the category 6 hurricane events. 3 stars for me but I will read JM Cannon again in the future. Thanks to NetGalley and Embla Books for the ARC. All opinions are my own. Publication Date: February 27, 2025

I was excited to get an ARC for this book! I’ve read others by this author and loved them. This one did not disappoint!

Fast paced read that hooked me in right from the very page and kept me hooked all the way through, I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. Well paced and kept me guessing

Meet Anna Klein, a journalist working in Charleston when a body is uncovered that she believes is the work of a serial killer that has killed twice before, otherwise known as the flash girls. When the body is suspected to be one of her childhood friends, she realizes she must race to find more clues while an intense Category 5 hurricane is lurking in the shadows, on course to hit Charleston directly. The killer takes a flash photograph of the victim before stalking her for two weeks and kidnapping her. Entering into an extreme game of cat and mouse, she goes clue to clue until she unearths something she cant quite believe.
Okay so I have a hard time with this book because I did enjoy it. I was extremely invested in the plot; however, it is extremely convoluted and I was on board until the perpetrator was revealed. I picked up the book quickly and up until the end I was anxiously awaiting the grand reveal. However, when the time came I was a little letdown. It didn't really land for me. I enjoyed the chase and the clues and I would definitely read another book by this author! The main character was kind of annoying at times but I guess I kinda understand. Anyway yes, 3/5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Embla Books, and J.M. Cannon for allowing me to read an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest reviews.

Three missing girls and a cat 5 storm heading makes this a pacy and gripping read.
Anna is tasked with discovering the facts and the build up to the story is quite exciting.
I loved the way the story is told. It is a book I wanted to finish and discover the reasons of why the girls were missing and what happened to them
I founf I was hooked very quickly and I absolutely loved it
