I was fortunate to have been given an advanced copy of The Lost Girls and for the most part, I really enjoyed this book.
It was a fast paced and on the edge of your seat thriller - - except until the end of the book where the plot just didn't quite work for me and it felt a little unbelievable.

I enjoyed the sleuthing of Anna and how she went about trying to solve the case. It started out so strong and it was gruesome and thrilling and in some parts I got chills while reading it. So it kept me wanting more. As a debut novel, I was impressed with the writing style it was easy to get through and the chapters were small.

Overall, a good read. Thanks Netgalley for the chance to read this before it comes out at the end of the month!

This is an accomplished debut thriller. I found it a tad slow to draw me in but was totally engaged after the first third.
The fluctuating timelines work well and the menace of the oncoming storm adds atmosphere.
I look forward to further work from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC which was very much appreciated.

The book started off slow, and at first, I found it hard to stay engaged. However, as the story progressed, something shifted, and the second half completely pulled me in. The pacing picked up, the stakes felt higher, and a twist I didn’t see coming made it all the more exciting. While it took some time to get there, I’m glad I kept reading, making for an overall gripping read. If you enjoy mysteries with unexpected turns, this one is worth sticking with!

This is my first book by JM Cannon and I was not disappointed. This crime fiction book was fast paced and really kept me on my toes because there were lots twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The storyline was interesting, there’s a lot going on ….. three girls go missing and they are far from catching the killer. Four years later a body turns up but a massive storm is about to hit which will wash away evidence. Can they catch the killer after so long? Read this book to find out, it will be worth it! Really enjoyed this read, thanks to Netgalley and Embla Books for this advanced copy.

In the wake of the impending landfall of an intense Category 5 hurricane on course to hit her home of Charleston, Anna Klein is busy searching for a serial killer. She believes that the recent death of her childhood friend Sophie is the work of a serial killer that has struck twice before, killing so called Flash Girls. The perpetrator takes a poloroid of the victim then stalks her for two weeks until her murder. Anna has gone to the police before and been shot down, so she takes it upon herself to find the killer, setting off a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

A taut, well plotted thriller that leaves you gasping at the various twists and turns the story takes. Ultimately, I guessed the identity of the killer, but I still enjoyed the ride to the ending immensely. I think you will too. 4 stars.

I received this advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and feedback.

The Lost Girls by J M Cannon (ARC REVIEW)
4⭐️

My very first ARC read was not a disappointment!

One by one, three girls go missing. No witnesses, no leads, nothing. Among them, Anna Klein’s best friend, Sylvie. Despite the case going cold, Anna never stopped looking for Sylvie and four years later she finally has a lead when a body is found in an abandoned mansion. Is it Sylvie?
As a huge storm threatens the East Coast, the clock is ticking to find the answers before the trail is lost forever…

From the very beginning I was drawn into this book. Anna's story is one with a lot of unanswered questions that you find yourself desperately needing to know the answer to.
There's an easy flow to the plot where we have info about characters but not too much that it's overwhelming, going from one part to the next without being abrupt. The narrative is descriptive enough to give you hints but not enough to give it all away. As the reader we are at mercy of the narrator and Anna's perspective.
The sense of urgency because of the storm and the increasing suspicion towards every character leaves the reader on edge, confused, and needing to read more! There were times I was genuinely scared and I find that rare in most books, even thrillers.

If you like a fast paced, mind swirling, who-dunnit then this is the book for you!

Thank you to Net Galley & Embla Books for allowing me to read this ARC!

Three girls disappear into the night. One by one they go missing, never to be seen again. No witnesses, no leads, nothing. The only thing they had in common? An uneasy sense of being watched in the days before they vanished. Noises in the night, and boot prints in the flower beds outside their bedroom windows! Great read! This book had great suspense, dark family secrets, intrigue, gruesome murders, mystery, a crazy who done it that I definitely didn’t see coming and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was really interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
