Historical, espionage, adventure and a charming heroine. This is an historical fiction that is a bit different and has a bit of everything. Unfortunately, having not read the first book I felt a bit lost as this one seemed to continue on from a previous book so some details I seem to have missed.
Pacing was good, I did like the characters but I think I need to read book 1 and then come back and read this one again to get more enjoyment out of it. All in all a good book, some thrills and adventures and I did like the historical aspects as well.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was a fascinating story with Beth as a Secret Service agent who seems to go from one adventure to the next with little rest for the reader.
I had not read the first book in the series, but I felt the first book stood well enough on its own. The characters were well-developed, and the adventures gripping, but there seemed to be too many for one story to hold my interest beyond a few chapters at a time.
I am not sure if reading the first book in the series would have mattered, but I found myself picking up the book, reading for a bit, and then thinking, what adventure will our MC and her cohorts have to deal with next?
Don’t get me wrong – I enjoyed the book – it just wasn’t a fast read – not a beach read – and had to be devoured in more than a few sittings.
Betrayal encouraged me to grab a copy of the first book in the series to see if that would add more dimension to the series.
I gave the book four stars because the writing style and the characters intrigued me. I want to thank Net Galley, the author, and the publisher, for the opportunity to read this tale as a free ARC. This review is voluntary and is mine and mine alone.

Christopher C. Tubbs’ Betrayal is a thrilling blend of high-seas adventure and espionage, following the daring Lady Bethany Stockley—codename "Chaton"—as she hunts the infamous pirate El Dragon. With a sharp mind and unyielding determination, Bethany navigates treacherous waters, both literal and political, in a world where danger lurks at every turn. Tubbs masterfully weaves naval battles, intrigue, and historical depth into a fast-paced narrative that keeps readers hooked. Perfect for fans of swashbuckling historical fiction, Betrayal delivers a compelling mix of action, mystery, and bold storytelling.

I couldn’t get into this one so it was a DNF. The book starts part way through a story, and although very fast paced, is say it’s too much so, so that the reader doesn’t have time to get to know any of the characters, but is merely running behind them constantly trying to catch up with them

Thank you NetGalley! I was unaware this was book #2 in a series although I believe it stands on its own just fine. Beth is a secret service agent and with her crew she’s sails off on assignment. Very enjoyable but then when her assignment is complete it pivots to the next, and the next, and the next. Some were more entertaining than others. Some were quickly brought to fruition. I think that is where I started to lose appreciation for the story as a whole. Great characters, some fascinating adventures, just too many squeezed into a short book. Still worth the read.
