I am giving this a 4 - not a fan of the lead character. Just because you are a bookworm and slightly uncomfortable in a group - doesn’t make you afraid of your own shadow. These type of characters do not appeal to me.
The 4 is because the writing is well done. I actually want to see the sisters characters develop and a book sharing Ellen’s story. She was great.
I read the first 2 books in the series and did enjoy them. I did forget this is not a clean romance book so fair warning. Good story but the heroine was extremely timid and I did not find her interesting enough to over come it.

I liked the book overall. Sometimes it felt like there were times it was drawn out, or some unnecessary additions. The writing style isn’t what I would go for buuuuuttt was still able to keep me engaged in the scandal.

Propriety and Scandal by Alyssa Martin
Viscount Wesley Ecclestone is embroiled in a scandal. After causing the downfall of a lady in London, he flees to Northumberland to join his friends at a hunting party. There, he finds himself irresistibly drawn to Frances, a woman he knows he should avoid.
Frances Brice has always lived in the shadow of her sisters. Now taken in by her cousins, she must prepare for her first London Season by learning all the rules of propriety.
As the rake encounters the innocent, the tension between them builds, highlighting the classic themes of desire and propriety in Regency romance. Their unspoken connection promises a narrative filled with longing and challenges. This is my first experience with Alyssa Martin’s writing, and it certainly sets the stage for an engaging tale.

This book is a gem in the historical romance genre! I fell in love with this series from the start. Having never read historical romance before, I took a chance with Alyssa’s series and now eagerly await her next book!
Frances won my heart as she blossomed from a shy woman into a strong and resilient individual. But my favorite was Wesley, whose contribution to Frances’s growth was beautifully portrayed. Wesley’s pivotal role in Frances’s transformation, acting as both a mentor and friend, adds richness to his character. You can’t help but root for them and hope their bond will deepen.
Alyssa’s writing style is enchanting. Her storytelling draws you in, forging an emotional connection with the characters that deepens with each chapter. Alyssa paints each scene with vivid detail, truly transporting you back to the 1800s.
In the end, Alyssa proves herself to be a standout romance author. Her eloquent prose, meticulous character development, and ability to evoke deep emotional connections make this book an unforgettable reading escapade.

I liked this novel. The main characters are very lovable and they have a really nice dynamic. It was nice that besides the main characters, we could meet other characters who added a bit to the development of the story. The plot was easy and interesting to follow. I liked the style of writing; there were no unnecessary and boring descriptions or situations that did not fit with the plot-line. This book is a good choice for those who love romance novels and friends to lovers trope.
