This book was amazing! Losing Sight dealt with second chances, grief, and aging so well. Reading a contemporary romance with a little paranormal activity sprinkled in was chefs kiss! On top of all that it was funny as hell!! I can’t recommend this love story enough!

This story is a true rom com about black romance after forty. Dealing with the body changes of getting older, managing careers, and finding a love again was meshed well in this plot. The writing is well balanced and funny. Its a joy to read a book where the MCs are mature and open to second chances. The characters were likable. So much so I can see this being a series.

This author writes real women with real issues. A woman feels her looks are no longer acceptable for her very public persona and this story is her journey to acceptance and body positivity. If you are a fan of older couples who are real, this book is for you. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were fantastic portraying the two POVs. The spice was really well done and appropriate for the story. If you are not a fan of spice, do yourself a favor and don't read this. You will miss a huge part of the story context. I personally, like to see real people having real relationships with all its ups and downs. This book has a touch of magic, not too much, just enough to make it magical.

This audiobook was such a lovely read. I had no idea really what to expect as this was the first time I've read a book by Tati Richardson, but it won't be my last one. This one was fun and flirty, serious and raw, and entertaining and sexy. This book had so many layers and not just one storyline where the two mains wanted to have sex with one another. I like my romance books with no more than 3-4 sex scenes because then I feel like I'm watching porn. However, Richardson gave enough spice for me because once these two found a groove, then they were locked in. There's some really fun stuff in this book, but there is also some serious topics like grief, death, sexual assault, discrimination, and fighting. I mean can you really have a romance without some drama now. I really enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend the narrator and the author to my followers and other readers.

I adored this romance that focused on African American GenX characters. The love story was hot and relatable and I enjoyed the mix of real life themes (careers, managing grief over the death of a love done, getting older), and mystical elements (spirits and magical glasses).

Tati Richardson's writing was well-paced, full of tender (and spicy) scenes, a likeable cast of characters, and the narration was on point. I would love to see this become a series.

Wow. Just wow. Losing Sight by Tati Richardson was such an incredible read! I was completely immersed in this story and felt so seen by the representation of an older FMC and MMC. The maturity, the depth, and the sheer grown and sexy energy of this book made it such a refreshing and enjoyable experience.

Tanika has spent years establishing herself as the it girl in sports broadcasting, but now she’s facing a series of major changes. Her network is bringing in younger replacements, and to make matters worse (in her mind), she suddenly needs glasses. In an industry where image matters, she’s worried about how this new look will affect her career. Enter Gideon, a very handsome optometrist who is immediately drawn to her. But Gideon is a widower, and starting over isn’t easy.

Something almost cosmic seems to be pulling these two together, and their journey is the perfect balance of spice and tenderness. The chemistry between Tanika and Gideon is undeniable, and watching them navigate their insecurities, desires, and emotional baggage was deeply satisfying. Their romance felt organic, heartfelt, and incredibly swoon-worthy.

Tati Richardson did an amazing job crafting a love story that is not only steamy but also full of heart. The themes of reinvention, self-acceptance, and learning to embrace love after loss made Losing Sight so much more than just a romance, it was a story about growth, healing, and stepping into new versions of yourself.

If you love emotionally rich, mature romances with characters who feel real and relatable, Losing Sight is an absolute must-read.

This was one of my most anticipated read for this year and it didn't disappoint!
I was really looking forward to a more mature couple and story.
This book tackled different themes, the main one being that women in our society are pushed to believe that after a certain age they're not meant to be at the forefront, especially when it comes to television, looks over experience and loyalty. Nikki is navigating that beautifully and not letting anyone take what she has earned. The book was funny and well paced it also, talks about grief, forgiveness and sisterhood.
I'm not necessarily a sports person however I was still able to appreciate this book and the storyline.

Tanika “Nikki”, a popular sports reporter, falls off her game as she fumbles and strains to see her lines. She finds herself at Gideon’s optometry office for some glasses and love isn’t the only thing she sees. I love seeing books focus on black joy and the elements in this were such a nice mix! Both characters are 40+ years old and working through their lives together -- Nikki with putting her career first, and Gideon dealing with the loss of his wife. Despite some miscommunication, I enjoyed the sports discussions, chemistry, and passion for work (ngl the sports stars / industry was kind of messy though 👀). There was also a hint of magical realism which I found special. Overall, a fun, light hearted, but also complex read.

Thanks NetGalley and Rowhouse Publishing for the copy!

I enjoyed this book! It's quite a romp. Tanika's vision is going bad, as you might expect for a woman in her 40s, but glasses do not align with either her job (sports reporter) or her vision of herself. When she goes to Gideon's optometry office and gets help finding the perfect glasses from a mysterious woman (Gideon's dead wife?), she gets more than she bargained for. This book is about overcoming the intersectional prejudice of racism, sexism, and ageism, about following your heart to the right love interest (Tanika also considers a rodeo cowboy and a race car driver) and about the power of empowering others. I had a great time.

I was given an e-ARC by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Baby this is a GROWN romance and I am here for it!

This book had my attention from the beginning to end. Losing Sight takes you on a Journey with two 40 plus individuals navigating loss, love and healing later in life.

Tanika is a journalist/reporter who has been at the top of her game career wise but now faces being replaced by the "Younger" reporter and trying to figure out to navigate getting older. One thing that she refuses to face until she has no choice is her needing glasses. This part so was real to me because I know plenty of people who go through the same thing.

Gideon is a eye doctor who is still trying to heal from the loss of his wife of our 15 years. With no real direction he is just floating through life not willing to move on until he gets a sign and a push from his SIL Celeste. Which by the way is the best SIL anyone could have. The way she reassured Gideon and let him know that it was okay to move on was so loving.

When these two come together you can instantly see the chemistry but it takes a little time to get there. Tanika is so used to putting her job first and using that as an excuse that she does the same with Gideon at first until she realizes the connection they may have. WIth Gideon he was all in but still second guessing himself.

Now this book is not without the drama. With both Tanika and Gideon suffering from unresolved trauma and abandonment issues so many assumptions were made that had me wondering if they were really going to make it.

With the help of their family, the Boss Chick VIllage and Lauren :) these two eventually see what everyone else sees and that is they are meant to be together.

I love the magical realism in the book. I need those glasses asap!!

Ms. Richardson did a fantastic was combining real world characters with a magical element.

Oh, iykyk but the spice was 10/10!!

When I tell you Tati Richardson can do no wrong in my eyes I mean it.

Thank you Netgalley for a chance to do this ARC review.

I so enjoyed reading this book. I loved all the characters and the overall theme of the storyline. I liked that the characters were realistic and relatable which kept my interest. So far, top 3 of 2025!

Tanika is a sports reporter battling an ageist boss to regain her prime time coverage when she begins noticing issues with her vision. Lucky for Tanika, one of her besties has a cousin with an optometry office.
The good doctor, Gideon, is a widower whose grief has led to some negligence of his office. She's grappling with her health and career changing as he's accepting what it looks like to move on without leaving behind the life he knew. Throw in a little supernatural assistance to bring them together and voila.

Losing Sight is funny and sweet, a romance between two grown ups with grown up problems. The first half of the books won me over incredibly well. That said, when the big conflict came, I was not a huge fan of how it was handled. Aside from a slightly ill-timed joke, I don't think my good sis was in the wrong. I could have stood for him to grovel a bit more because of that and the ending felt slightly rushed, but this was a fun read regardless.

Losing Sight was a magically heated and inSIGHTful read! Tanika and Dr. Gideon were a match made in vision heaven!

Tanika is a sports reporter who has covered some of the most major sporting events, but has recently been relegated to covering the minor sports that nobody cares to see. Why? Because she's aging and the network is now focused on featuring their newest, youngest diva that supposedly appeals more to the viewers.

Dr. G is a fairly new widow, and optometrist. Eyes are his specialty, but since his late wife's death his business has been suffering, missing the "people" component.

They meet (again) when Tanika can no longer put off getting glasses. When his “assistant” helps her find the perfect pair, she begins to see things and people more clearly through a new lens!

I adored this story!  It was sweet, light, but had depth. It was also very relatable with trying to downplay the changes in our bodies as we age. At times I feel like the romance element was in the backdrop, but there was so much else to keep it engaging. There were some little details here and there that I couldn’t get enough of:

👓 The chemistry that evolved between Tanika and Dr. G was explosive!
👓 The friendship dynamics with Tanika and her girls was fun & fierce
👓Dr. G’s supportive relationship with Celeste was touching
👓 The sex scenes were scrumptious! 🥵
👓The magical glasses brought a special aura 😉
👓G & T's common bond over fly sneakers (I need to step my shoe game up)
👓 T's friend Bronwyn and all of her kids’ crazy names (she'd give Nick Cannon a run for his money)
👓 Houston rodeo season 🤘🏾7🤘🏾1🤘🏾3 🐎 (IYKYK)

So, "reading too much into things" as I usually tend to do, I had a problem with the whole Sarah aspect. I like how Tanika wanted to be a mentor, but there's no way I'd worked that hard to get someone to allow me to help them. Hopefully things won't backfire down the line. I also didn’t like the other men introduced into the story as potential prospects, and some of Tanika’s actions towards the end.

I hope to read more of this author’s works!! The narration was excellent!!

This was a fun read!

This audio was *chef's kiss*. Losing Sight is the second book that I have read by Tati Richardson and I really enjoy her writing style and appreciate that she writes mature characters and has plus sized women representation/appreciation. This book was so cute and funny. I found myself actually giggling while listening. Tati Richardson delivered a funny, romantic story with the perfect touch of magical realism. I would definitely recommend this book, specifically, the audiobook.

This story hooked me as soon as I started listening. Being an older woman, I related a lot with Tanika and her plight. When Gideon came back on the scene... FIRE! Beautifully executed second chance at Love while going through her loss of vision.

I really enjoyed Losing Sight by Tati Richardson. I like the aspect of magical realism and the dynamic between Tanika and Gideon. I deducted a star because I did find Tanika a bit annoying, as well as the fact that every single black man in the book wanted her. I get it, she's beautiful, but I found it unnecessary and rolled my eyes each time it happened.

It seems like there might be a sequel. If so, I think I will enjoy it more as enemies to lovers is my favorite trope.

Charlie L Wood as Tanika was okay, but I much preferred Jaime Lincoln Smith as Gideon.

I loved that this book focused on a couple in their 40s. However, it did feel like the only thing that was old about them was grey hair and bad knees. The attitudes displayed by both characters felt very childish at times. The FMC was hard to like and came off more pretentious than confident for at least 30 percent of the story.

The female narrator did not help matters. She made the female sound dull, boring, and the pacing of how the female narrator did not match the male narrator. The voice was very monotone and took away from the story to the point I wish only the male narrator completed the story.

Back to the story, I loved the magical realism but I wish it was explained better ..... was it a hallucination, manifestation, or a ghost? It was also refreshing for a MMC to not let a FMC walk all over him for a change and he did it so respectful while still maintaining his boundaries. Overall, a good read.

I loved this book so much! When I saw the audiobook for Losing Sight by Tati Richardson on NetGalley, he idea of a 40+ romantic comedy with a touch of magical realism immediately caught my attention. I’m so glad I chose it—I enjoyed every word.

“I see you. Every beautifully flawed, imperfect perfection about you takes up space in my heart. I see all of you.”

Tanika Ryan has spent years proving herself in the male-dominated world of sports journalism. At 40, she hosts the top-rated football show on her network, but lately, something feels off. Squinting at the teleprompter, stumbling over lines, and battling headaches have started affecting her work. To make matters worse, she’s losing ground to a younger, less-qualified woman.

She knows she needs to get her vision checked, but as an on-air personality, she doesn’t want to show any signs of aging. When the issue becomes too big to ignore, she turns to Gideon Miles, a widowed optician who has avoided relationships since losing his wife. Their connection sparks instantly, but whether he’s ready for something new remains uncertain.

A mysterious assistant leads Tanika to a unique pair of glasses, and suddenly, things start changing. Her viewers love her new look, and opportunities begin falling into place. But with newfound attention—both professional and personal—Tanika has to figure out what she really wants and whether Gideon is willing to step into the spotlight with her.

I loved Gideon’s blend of sweet and strong, with just the right amount of possessiveness. The magical realism remained subtle, adding a fun twist without overpowering the story. Even though Losing Sight is labeled as a romcom, it explores deeper themes like ageism, racism, female equality, sexual harassment, and grief while still delivering humor and heart.

“I’ve had you, and I damn sure will not share you.”

Likes:
•I loved Tanika’s “Boss Chick Village”—her group of friends, all Black women at the top of their careers.
•The story explores very realistic and relatable issues that women over 40 face.
•The glasses were just a little magic—enough to add intrigue while keeping the story grounded.
•I loved the F1 references and cars.
•Gideon’s love and respect for his late wife was handled beautifully.
•HOT over-forty sex. Yes, we do it too!
•I loved Gideon’s sister-in-law.

Dislikes:
•I can’t think of any!

The Narration:
Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L. Wood were both new to me, and they did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. They perfectly embodied the characters, making the audiobook a great experience.

The Down & Dirty:
Losing Sight was a fabulous read! It captured the realities of being a woman at the top of her career, especially as a Black woman, with humor, heart, and just a touch of magic. I loved every character, the themes it explored, and the subtle humor woven into the more serious moments. If you love over-40 romance, I highly recommend Losing Sight by Tati Richardson.

Rating: 4.5 Stars, 3 heat, 5 Narration

Tati has done it again! I am a huge fan of her work and I love that she writes characters that look like me. I felt completely immersed in the story. A bonus is I’ve been obsessed with sports lately, so this was right on time!
The spice was perfect! Steamy but not too much, it felt just right!
It was a great reminder that you can find love at any age!
