Losing Sight by Tati Richardson was a 3.5 star book for me. I loved the character development and the plot of Tanika and Gideon's love story. Tanika was a hardworking middle aged woman who was not receptive to her aging eye sight, but the magical glasses saved the day. I loved how the magical realism was written into the story for both Tanika and for Gideon to be drawn together it was too cute. I also admired their connection and love for sneakers, because your never too old to be a sneaker head. The village of friends Tanika had were amazing, some friendship groups one could dream to have in this day in age. But were the story fell short for me was the third act breakup and Tanika begging to be with Gideon!!! I didn't like it at all. I guess that's just not my style of representation of love. Thank you netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the audio arc.

I really enjoyed 𝐿𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑡, and it was an experience that was an “eye-opener” 👓 for me lol. This one intertwines themes of vision loss, but also explores the complexities of romance. The relationship in the story added a sweet layer to the plot, reflecting the emotional shifts that come with change, both physical and personal. For me, it hit home when my own prescription recently changed, and I had to get an “aging” prescription as well as finding out other things about my eyes. Up until that point, I had been in a bit of denial about the eye effects of getting older, but this book helped me confront it head-on. I absolutely loved Gideon’s character as well. Don’t get me wrong, there were definitely some funny and loving moments, so I can say this one has a bit of it all!
The audiobook really added to the experience, with the narrators voice carrying the emotional and reflection of the story. It was thought-provoking for me to listen. I would recommend to anyone who’s looking for a relatable story with a touch of romance.

I absolutely enjoyed this!! This was just enough magical realism with a love story that I needed! Gideon & Tanika were hot and heavy and I loved it! Second chances truly exist. Tati you did amazing with this book!!

I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to become engaged in Nikki’s career as a sports reporter and the the romantic flame building between her and her handsome optometrist. I liked that they were a middle aged couple both working through life’s ups and downs.
The touch of magic realism worked well with the story. Most of all I loved the laugh out loud humor. The audio was well done and very entertaining.

Tanika and Gideon are the perfect match but it takes a little magic and a whole lot of patience to get these two together. This is a great rom com that highlights love after 40 and second chances at love. I really enjoyed the book but the audiobook was the cherry on top, especially the spicy scenes. The narration for this book was superb and I fell in love with the characters and their love story all over again.

With this author imo she does too much, in other words she is a diversity check box author. And listen, I don’t mind diversity but when you tend to just start adding things just to say hey I got that covered, it makes for a chaotic reading experience and I’m not a fan of chaos in my books unless it part of the plot.
Anyolways, the romance between Tanika and Gideon was cute. Tanika’s character felt very much relatable in her age and in loosing her sight. And I heavily enjoyed the idea of her obtaining a pair of magical glasses cause I definitely need a pair, lols.
All and all… and imo this story would have been so much better without all the unnecessary side plots. It all just interrupted the romance brewing between our couple. Loosing Sight was a okay read and if a little bit of magical realism and older characters are your kind of jam, then I say check it out.

I really enjoyed the romance and the individual character journey for both characters. I enjoyed the workplace explored in Tanika's POV. The themes of grief and family were done very well and with care. I'm excited for more from Tati Richardson.

Tati’s books are always full of passion and steam and this one delivered!! I loved the mcs and the budding romance. I enjoyed the anchor plot line and thought it was such a fun read!

I loved this older romance featuring characters in their 40s without kids. Tanika was a beautifully strong and intelligent main character who endured incredible growth while facing life’s challenges. Gideon, a sexy, silver-fox widowed eye doctor, was equally compelling as he helped Tanika rediscover herself with a new pair of glasses.
A standout element was the magical twist—her new glasses granted her the ability to see people’s "true selves," adding depth and intrigue to the story. And her friend group? Simply amazing—the kind of supportive, loving friends we all wish we had! This book had heart, wisdom, and just the right touch of magic.

This was fantastic. I really enjoyed it and couldn’t stop listening. I was hooked from the first minute! The narration was wonderful. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this audiobook.

Losing Sight is a romantic comedy that contains fabulism. Tanika and Gideon are a wonderful pair that I loved seeing evolve. This author doesn't miss. She is both, witty and brilliant the way she writes these relatable characters who are in their 40s and navigating life. A MUST READ!

Nicki Ryan our FMC is on a cross roads in her career and in life. She is reaching an age where she might need, well actually needs, glasses. She gets reintroduced to MMC Gideon Miles. What I enjoyed about this contemporary rom-com was exploring the idea of what happens when your life takes a turn. I found Nicki very relatable and likable. I loved the chemistry the MC’s had. I like how author Richardson tied the paranormal aspect into the story. Gideon is the book boyfriend we all need. <Potential Spoiler>
We follow him through his grief journey after he lost his wife. What I enjoy about his character is that he is also at a crossroads with his love life after becoming a widower.

Truly enjoyed this story to include the character development and overall story of a successful black woman finding love.

Audiobook Review
4 ☆
Sports reporter Tanika “Nikki” Ryan is at the top of her game until she isn't. Squinting at the teleprompter and flubbing lines, she loses her coveted Thursday Night football spot to a younger, less qualified woman—and that's only the start of her troubles.
I love that the main female and male leads are both in their 40s. Sometimes I want a grown and sexy book vibe, and these definitely give those vibes! I also like the supernatural/spiritual aspect of the storyline. I don't want to give spoilers, so read this book.
The audiobook is dual narration. They did a good job telling the story and bringing it to life. It was easy to listen to and understand. I listened at 2x speed.
Thank you, Netgellay, and Row House for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

"Losing Sight" is an absolute gem of a black romantic comedy that steals your heart quicker than you can say "happily ever after!" I was grinning from ear to ear while devouring this book. As a black woman, I totally related to the main character’s experience as the token black girl—always called on but passed down! Or If you don’t look like the cookie cutter image they want you to be. Gideon and Tanika are the dynamic duo you can't help but root for. Gideon, still picking up the pieces after losing his beloved wife, Lauren, tugs at your heartstrings as he wrestles with grief and the idea of love again. And then there's Tanika—she's a BAWSE! A POWERHOUSE! LIKE SIS IS THAT GIRL ! Watching her navigate what's going on in her career, embracing her life changes, and unleashing her incredible strength was nothing short of awe-inspiring. She crushed every expectation, earning every ounce of success and love she craved. Seeing her achieve that stunning balance with Gideon felt like watching a magical romance unfold right in front of my eyes!

Gideon and Tanika were everything I needed and more. I need this as a movie so I can watch it over and over again. Gideon was a gentleman who knew how to lay that pipe while also finding love after the lose of his wife. Black love for the win.

If I’m being honest, I either want my romance novels to be filled with perfect book boyfriends who I can swoon after OR a lil’ sweet yet problematic so I can trash talk them as I read. Losing Sight by Tati Richardson, does the latter and I LOVED IT!
Also, just so these publishers are aware, I, now, expect a love story filled with magical realism every Valentine’s Day, so please do not disappoint. Last year, we got A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams and this year we got Losing Sight.
What Worked:
Tati did a really good job creating dynamic characters and scenes. While it might seem unrealistic, as a former print journalist, I have never once envied the pressure broadcast journalists feel to look picture-perfect and how the natural process of aging can cost them their careers. Tati highlighted how cutthroat the industry can be, especially for Black women. You are critiqued from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.
Initially, I was wondering what was going on with all the additional characters – the F1 racer and the rodeo star, but Tati tied it all into a bow and the situations added depth to the story.
What Pissed Me Off:
Baybeee!!! Both Teneika and Gideon needed therapy. And I want better for two grown-ass adults who both want love, but both are dealing with crap. Tati writes such relatable characters because we all know people just like Teneika and Gideon, who could find happiness if they could get out of their own way.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but Gideon, no woman wants to make love to you while a picture of your ex-wife looms from above. I know you are hurt, but please be so forreal!
In the end, I was rooting for this love story.
Tati, Netgalley and Geneous Press thank you for the advanced listener copy. Happy Pub Day!

Thank you so much Tati Richardson & Spotify Audiobooks for sending an ARC & ALC my way!

(4.5 rounded up) I adored this romance! It's a romcom about accepting changes in your life, letting go of grief and making space for new possibilities (with magic realism). It follows a recently pushed aside sports reporter who is struggling to see, forced to visit a (hot) optometrist. It gave some beautiful nods to ancestor traditions and supportive friendships, in addition to the main romance. The couple's banter was cute and humorous, but the emotional depth was heartwarming. I thought the two narrators were great (audio). The dual POVs were equally fleshed out characters.
The only thing that stopped this from being a 5 star read was that during the "difficulties" of the relationship, I think the MMC came off as a bit impulsive and hurtful, which wasn't addressed as well as I would.
Disclosure: I was a part of a promotional tour for this book and received the ALC initially from the publisher.

First, I want to thank Tati Richardson for writing this, NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me an advance listener copy of this book, and Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L Wood for narrating!
I feel like this was so good and fun to read! I love that the main characters were more mature - Gideon and Tanika are such fun characters to get to know!
I really enjoyed their banter and their spice. I feel like they really worked well together despite their life circumstances being very different. I also even love the element of like the supernatural pushing them together. I thought that was so dreamy and romantic! I also really enjoyed all of the side characters, even the villains in the story! Like all of them were so well written that like every character felt valuable and important to the story.
I even thought the premise of a romance story around glasses was so interesting! I was not sure about it when I started the book, but it just works for the story. I mean, that’s just like an ode to the author because she can write about literally anything and it makes sense!
My only complaint is that Gideon was a bit stubborn towards the end, which I did not appreciate because like I felt like he could’ve been more mature in the situation, but it is a great reminder that like even once you were a more mature person in your 40s that sometimes you get stuck in your old ways. I also wanna say that there is a section of the book where Tanika was discussing being a perfectionist and it read me for filth, and I feel like I really needed to hear that.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think that people who are looking for a romance story that is a little magical, and a little whimsical and a little bit of fated , mature lovers will really enjoy this one! I also cannot recommend the audiobook of this book enough because the narrators were so incredible! My hats off to them because they made the story so real when you’re listening to it ! I cannot wait to read what this author writes next!
