The Doctor is in and he will see you now….but will famous sportscaster Tanika see him?!

Losing Sight is a magical realism love story centering two driven professionals pushed together at the hands of a deceased spouse. Gideon’s late wife Lauren may be the reason Tanika can see colorful auras with her new specs. But what happens when the frame breaks and you are left wondering which of you were the perfect pair that can’t be replaced?

If magical realism isn’t your thing, know that Tati Richardson weaves in real world references that will ground you. For example Tanika’s run in with the cops after a driving mishap boiled my blood but also felt too realistic. Colin’s choice to partner with racist race car own Lou Rawls for sponsorship and a chance at a title was troublesome. Most noteably Tanika career journey being modeled after Pam Oliver was spot on!

This story is a fun read but it hits a lot of real life issues. ageism, racism, misogyny.

Gideon is an optometrist with a sneaker fetish. He lost his beloved wife 2years ago and has had a hard time moving on. During his relationship with Nikita, there were moments of indecision and guilt.
He was a bit of a nerd until he wasn’t. He could dirty talk with the best of them.

Tanika(Nikki) is a sports reporter. She had worked hard to make it in an industry predominantly dominated by men. She made it to top of her game. Now changes are coming from all sides. She held her own.

This was a really good story with great characters that you root for. Strong successful characters. The Bork squad was very diverse as far as personalities.
The culture was well represented.

The narrators were easy to follow. The fix really well with the characters and presenting their personalities.

Losing Sight" by Tati Richardson is a captivating and heartfelt narrative that beautifully delves into themes of grief and the rediscovery of happiness and love. At its core, the story follows Tanika, a vibrant sports television personality who unexpectedly finds herself at a crossroads both professionally and personally. In the midst of dealing with career challenges, Tanika requires a pair of glasses that uniquely allow her to see the auras of those around her, revealing hidden emotions and intentions.

The introduction of Gideon, a kind and handsome optometrist who is struggling with his own journey through grief after the loss of his spouse, adds depth and warmth to the storyline. As their paths intertwine, both Tanika and Gideon are faced with the task of letting go of their past traumas and embracing the potential for new beginnings.

Richardson masterfully explores how grief can be both a heavy burden and a transformative experience, leading to unexpected and meaningful connections. As Tanika and Gideon navigate their individual struggles, they learn to open themselves up to love and happiness in ways they never anticipated.

The book is a poignant reminder that life, with all its unpredictability, often brings us the people we need at the right time. With its rich character development and engaging plot, "Losing Sight" is a compelling read that touches the heart and inspires hope.

Tanika was a star journalist until her star faded. She was getting older now. She also has headaches and vision problems. She’s finding it difficult to read the prompter because of these symptoms. Each time she is doing the news, she complains about the size of the font. She soon realizes she needs glasses after putting them off for a long time. Although she has problems, she pretends everything is alright and that she is in charge.
One day, her boss, Ross, summoned her to mentor a younger journalist, Sarah. Young and popular London race driver Colin was interviewed by Sarah. Her teamwork is appreciated, she was told. We will keep utilizing you until you reach retirement age, so be prepared. She almost had a fatal car accident, and that’s when she realized she needed glasses. Tanika makes an appointment with an eye doctor.

The eye doctor is Gideon. Gideon is a handsome eye doctor who is struggling with his practice. After his wife’s death, he was not as focused. Even though he is grieving, he still likes Tanika. He has been thinking about her since he last saw her. That is why he is excited and a little anxious to have her as his patient.

I love how Gideon was reluctant to jump into a relationship with a patient. I think that is admirable and smart. But he does have sweet moments with her early on, like when they ate ice cream together. He even checked in on her after getting her glasses. They even went on a date that got Gideon out of his comfort zone. Gideon also helped Tamika to have some fun and relax. They are good for one another. They also have some sexual encounters, which is something I did not mind.

The glasses he gave them seem to help her do better at her job. That part was something I was not expecting but did not mind. Her job was stressful, and she needed all the help she could get.

I liked the book so much I decided to buy it.

I really enjoyed this story about two 40+ individuals getting a second chance at love. Tanika is a sports reporter who’s being pushed out by her network in favor of a younger woman, and Gideon is a widower and an optometrist that Tanika ends up seeing when she can no longer avoid her failing eyesight. What I loved most about this story is how realistic it was in its portrayal of the struggles grown people have in life and love. Gideon and Tanika were both imperfect people fumbling their way through dating. It was cute, heartwarming, and funny.

Tanika “Nikki” Ryan is a sports reporter who has built her career through grit and talent, only to watch it slip away when her vision starts to fail. Enter Gideon Miles, a widowed optometrist with his own struggles. When a mysterious pair of glasses finds its way into Nikki’s life, her perspective—on everything—shifts, leading to a journey of self-discovery, love, and second chances.

This book has *everything*—Tanika and her dynamic Boss Chick Village, the rodeo, the stock car racing references (which I loved!), laughter, tears, grief, and some unexpected magic. The chemistry between Nikki and Gideon is undeniable, and when the slow burn finally ignites? Whew! 🔥 The spice is real, but so is the depth of emotion, especially as both characters navigate personal challenges. Gideon’s grief was palpable, and honestly, therapy might’ve helped him process things more effectively. The third-act miscommunication trope wasn’t my favorite, but it didn’t overshadow the joy of watching these two find their way to each other.

If you love romance with mature, well-established characters who have lived, lost and are ready to love again, this is the book for you.

I love both the FMC Tanika and the MMC Gideon. The banter, the sports references, the friendship between Tanika and her friends were all great. But really, this romance with main characters over 40 is such a joy to read. The audiobook is fantastic, and I highly recommend listening. I really enjoyed Tati Richardson's Losing Sight. This was absolutely a great romance with a touch of magical realism/fabulism.

3.75⭐️ i really enjoyed this book and the unique storyline it had but the 3rd act/miscommunication reallyyyy took me out of the story😭 i just think it was dragged out for a little too long

beside that, this was a wonderful story surrounding many different things, like finding love after loss, embracing life changes, and growing older

the MCs, along with the full cast of characters had me goinggg, i’m hoping this will be a series and we can see some other character get their own books, i already see some plotlines forming🤭

Thank you to Row House by Spotify Audiobooks for providing this book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I love, love, LOVED this book! I truly hope I see it everywhere once it publishes on Feb 11th. Tati Richardson did a phenomenal job providing us with a story featuring growth, confidence, love, second chances, grief, friendships, and so much more. She somehow managed to hit on so many topics and fun side plots in just over 300 pages. Even when a character made a decision that frustrated me (because hello, we’re all humans here), I got the satisfied feeling of witnessing them realize the error of their ways and come back better and more evolved. I loved every scene that included the main characters, Tanika and Gideon, but also the ones with her friends. Her friends had such a strong bond and I was beyond excited to read there will be another book for Jackie coming soon! I truly couldn’t recommend this story enough.

In regards to the narration, in the initial moments of listening I was having difficulty getting into the story but I eventually adapted and enjoyed the various character voices portrayed (kudos for blending into Colin's British accent). I wish the NetGalley app allowed more speed options because if I had something in between 2.0 and 2.5, I might have found a different speed that worked perfectly for me. Ultimately, I still recommend the audiobook because it made for a great listening experience.

This is a story of Tanika 40 + sportscaster who begins having vision problems. Enters optometrist Dr. Gideon Miles. When she is give a pair of glasses she begins to see things "differently". The was a story of people in their 40s navigating love, grief & aging in the sportscaster field. The story was very relatable. I enjoyed listening to audio even though the woman narrator was a bit monotone for me. The story moved at a good pace and it was easy to follow along. Thank you to Net Galley for this audio book ARC of Losing Sight

I really enjoyed this book about the magical glasses that changed Tanika and Gideon’s life once they got out of their own way.

This book is full of spice and banter. It literally had me laughing out loud at some scenes. The dirty talk scene was one of them and you will know exactly what I mean when you get to it.

I definitely recommend you check out Losing Sight!

4.5 ⭐️ This is book is for “grown folks,” for sureee!!! The narrators were TOP TIER!. I LOVED both the FMC Tanika and the MMC Gideon! I always enjoy Tati Richardson’s work & this is no different!

4.5 - “I know i need you. I’m going to come home to you.”

This was a really cute mature read with both the MCs being 40+. We have Gideon wanting to love again and Tanika finally realizing what she’s been missing. Outside of finding love there’s so much more that comes with this story. You have grief, issues with a parent, A1 friend group, the spice is very much hot, career drama, and them being sneaker heads sealed the deal.

I love the story around the glasses giving magic/paranormal aspect and what they do for Tanika. It’s like the opposite of rose colored glasses. Not only is she having issues seeing at her sports reporter job but has yet to notice there’s more to life than work. Until these glasses also make her see certain people for who they are. Gideon is ready to move on but maybe not as soon as he thought. Sometimes things happen or people come into your life showing you how much you haven’t let go. In order to love this new phase in your life completely you must cherish what you had and know there’s never any replacing it. While making room to fully embrace the new path that has been set.

Favorite scene was the talking dirty phone sex. Is was funny and cute. (You’ll see what i mean when you get there.)

Thank you Tati Richardson and Row House by Spotify Audiobooks for an ARC. Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L Wood did an amazing job with the audio.

Such a unique and quirky romance

This breath of fresh air writing that immediately invited me in sets the perfect tone for the little sprinkle of magic in the book. I love reading contemporary romance like this, with a dash of magical realism. It only amplifies the magic of what the romance genre is.

Richardson's writing never fails me either. She makes really fleshed out female leads, and here we get a female sport anchor. We get a fine and fabulous female lead in her 40's with a zaddy optometrist falling for her.

I need more stories like this in my life. Narration is wonderful as well! Love the dual narrators!

Tanika Ryan is a big-time sports reporter, known for her Thursday Night Football spot and her keen interviews. She's worried she's losing her touch, though, because she's missing lines on the teleprompter. She's also lost her spot on TNF to a younger, hotter woman, and she's been relegated to fly fishing and lacrosse (but thankfully not yet hockey). It's not her blood pressure, it's not her diet, but it can't possibly be that she needs glasses... can it? On a drive home, she hits a fire hydrant because she can't see, and immediately schedules an appointment with an optometrist. Said optometrist is a hot, nerdy cousin of one of her best girlfriends. Gideon Miles is a widower, and hasn't been on the dating scene since his wife died two years ago. But there's instant chemistry, and once Gideon gives her the new glasses, he asks her out. But Tanika's high stress job with frequent travels isn't conducive to a real relationship, is it?

I enjoyed Tati Richardson's debut, The Build Up, and was excited to pick up her sophomore book, Losing Sight. This was SO MUCH fun and I absolutely devoured it. This is a great romance with a touch of magical realism/fabulism.

The banter, the sports references, the friendship between Tanika and her friends were all great. But really, any romance with main characters over 40 is such a joy to read. There's a plot with Tanika interviewing a 28-year-old F1 turned stock car racer who wants to date Tanika, and she gently but firmly says they are in very different places in life, and I felt that in my bones. I cheered for all the characters all the way through, and had a really good time doing it.

The audiobook is fantastic, and I highly recommend listening; I was riveted. I was equally delighted to read the eARC with my eyes as well.

I finished this audiobook in one sitting. This book is very grown and sexy. Gideon is a top tier book boyfriend and Tanika’s growth and ability to take accountability is refreshing. The spice is spicy. The supporting characters felt real and fleshed out. Tati Richardson is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors

I’ve been eager to dive into this book ever since I first saw the cover. A Black romantic comedy featuring mature main characters? Yes, please!

The description promises a “high-heat and hilarious rom-com that harkens to the golden age of Black romance,” so I went in expecting plenty of laughs. But while the story was engaging, it felt more like contemporary fiction with romantic elements than a true rom-com. Enjoyable? Absolutely. Hilarious? Not so much.

That said, I had a great time following Tanika’s journey as an on-air sports journalist, meeting the vibrant supporting cast, and enjoying the spice—with just a sprinkle of magic for good measure.

As for the audiobook narration, the male character’s performance was solid, but the female narration felt a little wooden, almost robotic at times, which pulled me out of the story here and there.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book—it just didn’t quite deliver on all the rom-com magic I was hoping for.

This just might be my fave Tati Richardson book yet ! Tanika & Gideon were a good good time.

There are so many layers Tanika and Gideon and I love it. Tanika is a mature baddie with a successful career that is literally stalling out because she’s getting in her own way (kinda) lol then we have equally successful Gideon who had it, then lost it when his wife passes away.

Their journeys to each other are rooted in finding the way back to self and embracing the new. I love when the love story has depth. Oh and as a fellow visionally impaired girly I LOVED the name. Quite clever. The glasses being a main character was such a vibe and it allowed me to discover another fave micro trope: when glasses wearers take em off to be grown 🤭

Andddd that *sprinkle sprinkle* of extra help but way magical realism…. Too cute. I really could go on and on because I loved this so much. I was reminded of Mickey Chambers shakes things up and that was one of my fave books in 2024.

Thank you Tati for sharing this story! Thank you NetGalley and Spotify audiobooks for this ARC
