Muted is a sapphic and polyamorous story which offers a deep dive into witch families, their unique powers, and the complex magical politics that emerge when they intersect!
Muted authentically portrays LGBTQ+ lives, disability, trauma recovery, grief, and healing through supportive relationships.
Highly recommend!

I love the illustrations in this book. The artist did a great job. If you love graphic novels I definitely recommend reading this.

love a revenge story, this graphic novel was gripping i kept turning the pages to know the ending
so i found the ghost woman kinda cool, I mean she was here to get a revenge for the living girl she used to be, and for that, slay !
*keep in mind that my opinion is entirely based on my own experience as a kid who was bullied at school.*
thank you net galley for the copy

First off I wanted to say thank you for this ARC.
I remember when this was coming out on Webtoon. It was one of my favorites. It is for everyone of course not. But it's got witchy stuff, found family and more. So I'm here for it.
Will definitely be picking up this graphic novel when it releases.

Muted opens on the night our main character Camille Severin is supposed to summon a demon to further her family's legacy. The ritual doesn't quite go as planned, which leads to Camille discovering secrets of her past.
"Prove that you're more than dead weight and play the role that you were born into or be cast down."
I had such an amazing time with this story! We start off with a high stakes demon summoning ritual and some interesting family dynamics, which quickly leads Camille to delve further into her past and the traumatic event that has thus far defined her life. The story is very engaging and features a rich, diverse cast of characters.
Mundt's art style and use of colour is gorgeous and pairs so well with the story. They are not afraid to let their art speak for itself instead of belabouring a point. The gothic style with its stained glass window imagery makes my heart sing. Along with this every witch family seems to have their own visual identity.
"I'm...tired of being afraid all the time. I want to have control back...of my life, my dreams, and my power."
Muted shows us how diversity is done well. Characters feel like they have an actual personality besides their gender, race, sexual or other identities. Also a major shout out to featuring a disabled character saving someone instead of being saved themselves. That little detail means so much.
I would recommend Muted to anyone who loves fantasy stories featuring witches. It explores family dynamics, trauma, and coming of age themes in a gentle way. Alongside a rich cast and beautiful art.

This was an interesting read. I'm happy to have been chosen for this ARC and to have discovered this new author.
It was a fast-paced graphic novel with gorgeous drawings. The cliché of witches from different families cohabitating in the Bayou of New Orleans didn't feel recycled. The author leaned into it and created a nice ambiance. Some plot twists were somewhat predictable, but still added a layer of depth to the story and the FMC. Bonus points for a cute sapphic relationship in the making.
My only negative comment for this book was about the writing. It wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't great either. Plus, a lot of typos remained, which is more on the editor's side and I hope it will be corrected for the final copy.

Thank you NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphics for the ARC.
I was drawn to this graphic novel / WEBTOON but the graphics and I am glad I jumped on it because I really enjoyed the story so far. I immediately ran to WebToons to continue reading the story because I had to know what came next. If you are looking for a witchy, family secrets, sapphic, family is what you make it story then look no further. This is beautiful to read online but will make a beautiful addition to your physical collection too.

Thank you to NetGalley and WEBTOON for the arc!
This unravelled webtoon follows Camille as she learns what it means to be a with in a fictional version of Louisiana. The book itself covers the first almost 30 chapters of the webtoon and as always, the format is a great transition from online to book form.
Personally I would have loved some more general exposition into the story, as it just immediately jumps right into the narrative, but the writing picks up as the characters are able to flesh out and explore both their areas and themselves.
I do appreciate the trigger warnings before the book starts, I think that is something webtoon has always been good about making sure their authors do, and I would like other publishers to try something like that moving forward.

I had a blast with this graphic novel. Competing covens — or are they? Lies, half-truths and twisted, tangled family histories that are not what they seem. A growing romance, an adorable familiar, witches and demons … and the art is beautiful. Every character has their own personality, their own feeling, and their own history. The backgrounds are detailed, colorful, and fit with the emotions of the scene. All in all, this is just a good story with great art, and — alas — a cliffhanger ending.
I cannot wait to read more.
Thank you so very much to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC!

Overall, I really enjoyed this graphic novel!
I found it a bit hard to get into at first, and it takes a while for the story to kick in, but then it is a tad too fast-paced for my liking. And even though the main characters are all 21+, I would still say at least this first volume has more of a YA feel to it, which obviously isn't a bad thing, just a matter of taste.
All in all though, gay witches, cute animal familiars, nice artwork and an interesting story make me want to keep on reading!

I’ve originally read this on WebToons a long time ago. I wanted to reread this and see if it still holds up to memory. No surprise but it does.
The plot is beautifully driven. I love the witches have different clans vibe with the normal day to day aspects.
Our main character isnt driven by a man which is refreshing but from love in all angles. She’s smart but not annoyingly so. I wish we got more of her and her cousin just in general.
I love finding her dad’s side of the family and I hope to see more mixed clans in the future.

I connected with this story emotionally being that I myself was in the same shoes as Camille is with her aunt, only for me it was my father who was overbearing. I felt all the emotions while reading, and that twist... ahhh it was so good! I cannot wait to read volume 2 of Muted. I also want to touch on the art style because honestly it is so well done! The art style actually enhanced my experience reading which I know is what is trying to be conveyed. Excellent Job!
Thank You NetGalley for providing me an early copy!

Thank you NetGalley and Ten Speed Press for this ARC!
I actually really enjoyed this! And why do I have a crush on this creepy demon girl please???!!!
This follows a great story of a young witch who is destined to find her real self. I love the relationships shown in this first volume and I can’t wait to see where they go from here and when the romance kicks in!
Also the art style! These characters are all so so stunning 😍
I will definitely be picking up volume 2 as soon as it’s available!

This graphic novel follows Camille Severin, a witch who experiences something very strange during her family's summoning ritual. Instead of summoning a the demon she was prepared for, vines grow from her sigil. Scared of what this means for her magic and her family's reaction, she leaves the city for time away at her childhood home. There, with new and old friends, she begins to learn about her magic, lineage, and the fire that killed her mother and sister.
I loved being introduced to the different witch families and their family magics. Camille's story is full of mystery and darkness; I was glad to see her support system and self-assurance grow within this volume. I'm excited to read more of this story!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thoroughly enjoyed this !! I think the balance was perfect in terms of the darker themes and lighter funnier moments. The art style was stunning and I’m absolutely obsessed with dendo, I already can’t wait for the next book. I also think the world building in this was great ! The subtle explanations of the way different families magic works was so fun !!

Turning 21 is an important time for witches in the Severin family. When they reach their 21st year, they must perform a blood ritual that summons a demon. This demon will grant them a wish for basically anything. Camille is already extremely anxious about the ritual, but she has this niggling feeling that something is going to go awry. After the ritual, Camille is tasked to stay at the Severin family manor to practice and try the ritual again at the end of the month. The Severin family manor weighs heavy with the tragedy from 13 years ago. As Camille takes the time away from her overbearing Matriarch/Aunt, she begins to learn more and more about herself and her own roots.
This one has yet to have been published and I’m already waiting in anticipation for the next volume!

If you are looking for a story that explores witchcraft, the different dynamics of different witch families and their powers and the overall magical politics/morals that come with those families interacting, then read Muted!
Set in New Orleans, a witch is about to go through with her families traditional magic ceremony that will increase her families overall power. But her lack of understanding about her own magic, due to her families deaths 13 years ago, has her worried over the ceremony - which only strengthens her cruel Aunts distaste of her.
However, no one could know foresee what questions the ceremony would bring to light? Who really hurt her family? what is the root of her magic? And what will the truth cost her?
Enticing, right? READ IT!
MUTED HAS SOME MUCH EXCELLENT REPRESENTATION: Queer relationships, disabilities, recovering from trauma, grief, loss, abuse and empowering friendships & relationships.
I read Muted when it was ongoing on Webtoon and was hooked on this queer witch story. I actually have some merch from the story!

This is SO cute, I love the art style of it. I also love how simple the storyline is for a webtoon.
Each character allows you to feel the emotions I feel they’re representing, and in a way it seems like they’re the different stages of grief instead of only Camille having all the stages herself. I’m excited for the next volume :)

"Muted: Volume 1" is the first in a graphic novel series by Miranda Mundt. Camille is a young adult witch whose mother and twin sister died in a fire 13 years ago. Since then she's been living with her harsh witch matriarch aunt and cousin. It's time for her coming-of-age ceremony where she must use blood magic to summon a demon. When she does the ritual, thick green vines start coming out of the portal. She closes the portal and pretends that she wasn't able to complete it, running away into the swamp while bleeding excessively. Her other aunt and cousin rescue her from the swamp and Cam is told that she'll stay with her other aunt in her old house while recovering. Cam starts to uncover forgotten parts of her past.
Mundt has created an interesting witch world with different witch families with different powers (blood, plants, fire, and more) and specific rules. Watching Cam uncover secrets and hopefully start to accept who she really is will keep readers intrigued. A recommended purchase for graphic novel collections where fantasy or WebToon books are popular.
