Muted: Volume 1 is a stunning and fast-paced graphic novel that introduces us to Camille—a young witch trying to find her place in a magical world that doesn’t make it easy for her. She lives with her cousin (who she’s super close to) and her aunt (who, let’s be honest, can’t stand her), and it’s clear from the start that Camille’s life is far from simple.

She’s struggling with her powers, feeling like an outsider in her own family, and slowly uncovering secrets about her lineage and the rare type of magic she possesses. I absolutely loved learning about the different witch families and the unique magic each one holds. There’s a mystery at the heart of Camille’s story, and it grows darker and more compelling as the plot unfolds.

One of the best parts of this volume is watching Camille’s support system and self-confidence grow. The diverse cast of characters is a breath of fresh air; each one feels distinct, and they all bring something special to the story. And the art style? Beyond gorgeous. It’s vibrant, expressive, and brought so much emotion and energy to every scene.

With moderate-to-high stakes, good worldbuilding, and a fresh take on modern witches, this was such a strong start to the series. Also, it’s apparently setting up for a sapphic poly romance? Let’s GO - I’m so here for it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Ten Speed Press for the ARC.

The artwork in this was absolutely stunning! Seriously, even if the story had been awful (which it wasn’t by any means) I would have given this 3 stars just for that.

Add in an interesting story about witches and I’m in love.

The only thing that stopped this from being a 5 star for me was the ending. It was abrupt. I wouldn’t even call it a cliffhanger really. It’s like the author wasn’t sure exactly how to end it so just picked a random scene to call it good.

That being said, I will for sure be purchasing this when it comes out in July and can’t wait to read book 2.

The artwork for the story was beautiful and bright! I liked the story overall, but found there to be a lot of unneeded scenes in my opinion. I hate that it ends on a cliffhanger but that is what’s made me want to read part 2 when it comes out.

This was such a great start to a series! I already am intrigued by the characters, the story line is well written, and I can't wait to read more! The humor in this is spot on, I was laughing out loud multiple times, and a few moments of kicking feet cuteness between a certain couple of gals. This is definitely something I will come back to and keep an eye out for future publications!

Muted Vol 1 blew me away with an intriguing story, gorgeous artwork, and characters that immediately feel real and raw.

I wasn't familiar with the Webtoon version before picking this up, and can honestly say it absolutely works as a graphic novel. The art lends itself to full pages beautifully and I really enjoyed how much the character and setting designs added to the storytelling. You instantly feel the vibes of every scene and every emotion as it happens, which kept me immersed throughout.

That said, the story was the highlight of the book for me. There are several twists and turns that kept me reading, and I couldn't help but connect with Camille and her journey of self-discovery at a crucial point in a witch's life. All the characters felt well developed and had depths and sometimes darkness that were worth exploring as the story moved on.

I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on Vol 2. If you're into witchy tales of self-discovery and found family, you'll likely love this one.

✨ Disclaimer ✨ I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.

4.5 ⭐

I really liked the story. There's a lot of character growth with our main character as she discovers more about herself. It's witchy with many different magics included, I really like the way the magic system was briefly presented and I'm intrigued to learn more about all the different kinds. The art is beautiful and very well done it compliments the story perfectly. A really strong first Volume! I need to know how volume 2 is gonna go cause that cliff hanger has me intrigued!!!

This graphic novel is a fantastic set up for what's shaping up to be a strong story. The characters are extremely interesting with different family factions and powers that lend to each character we meet being unique. I loved the art style and color use and am looking forward to the next volume to see how this story progresses. If you like witches, mysterious pasts, personal growth and found family- this is the story for you!

This witchy, queer webtoon graphic novel was so addictive. Camile is a witch from Severin household. At age 18 she must perform summon-demon blood ritual for prosperity of the household. Unfortunately it hasn’t come as planned because of her being afraid to make a mistake, so instead a demon she supposed to summon, she summons something else...

It’s coming of age story about trauma, abuse and finding yourself with elements of mystery.
The art itself is stunning. And I can’t wait to continue with Camille’s journey in next volumes.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me the ARC.

I received this book as an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review, the book is set to be released on 8th July 2025.

I've dipped in and out of reading comics over my life, mostly due to accessibility, and everything from the cover and description drew me into this one! Muted did not disappoint.

It was so easy to escape into the world the author created, volume one did an amazing job of setting everything up with enough drama to have you desperate to continue reading and longing for the next volume already. It has the perfect blend of tough themes like trauma/isolation and sweet family bonds. I couldn't help but love the characters, everyone felt really well developed and distinct from another. And the illustrations? Would not change a thing about it!
I can't think of anything to fault this on.

It has been thirteen years since the mysterious fire at the Severin family manor that killed Camille’s mother and twin sister, and the last thing Camille wants to do is return to her old home deep in the swamps of Louisiana. But she doesn’t have a choice. Deeply ingrained family tradition and Matriarch Athalie—Camille’s coldhearted aunt and head of the Severin household—demand it.

I am again in love with a fictional character...sigh. Camille reminds me so much of growing up as a mixed-race, lesbian child. Never knowing where you belong but always feeling just a little wrong. Camillefeels like that because she just can't seem to be what her aunt wants her to be. She knows she wants more, she wants something different but she doesn't know herself well enough to know what that is.

Watching her try to find her way, holding my breath and waiting for that joyous moment she finds but clutching my pearls in fear that she will be found out and suffer even more.

Yup....Miranda Mundt has me hook, line, and sinker. Skipping what ever else I had planned to read next and on to vol. 2

Highly recommended, the art work and the story are mutually beautiful.
Expected publishing date; July 98, 2025

As of late, I'm trying to get into graphic novels, so when I was on NetGalley and saw both Muted Volume 1 and 2, I was so excited.

What I enjoyed about this book was all the subplot. We got mystery, magic, a touch of sapphic relations, and the illustrations are just so beautifully done!

This book feels very timely but modern (if that makes sense?) I think the illustrations and plot gives the reader a hint of both. The plot kept me reading (and also longing for a Lesbian moment between the demon and Camille).

I’m always on the lookout for witchy and/or magical stories and this one did not disappoint! I’m invested in these characters and I love the illustrations! The magic system is interesting and I can’t wait to learn more as this story goes on!

I really enjoyed this one! The world building was done so well, and the art style was easy to understand (it kind of reminded me of early 2000s cartoons). I love a sapphic, witchy story, and this one has all the best elements - familiars, witch families, mysterious back stories, coming-of-age, and, of course, queer characters. I can't wait to see where this one goes next.

This is a really promising start to what feels like it’s going to be an exciting story. The world that Miranda Mundt has created is really captivating and I was invested right away. The art is beautiful, and the magical elements, especially the familiars, are really well done.

Camille’s story is heartbreaking. The isolation and trauma she experiences, particularly the way she is treated by her own family for reasons beyond her control, make her easy to root for. Beyond Camille, the other characters feel well-developed and distinct.

This first volume does an excellent job of setting up the story, I’m eager to read the next installments.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Camille suffered an unspeakable tragedy when she was young, losing both her mother and her twin sister in a fire. Just to grow up with an abusive aunt. But she is also part of a prestigious witch family that makes deals with demons to get their heart's desires. Can she prove to her aunt and to herself that she can do this?

Camille is 21 years old and is just trying to find a place where she belongs, which is something we can all relate to. I love the art style, as well. Definitely a New Adult title vs a Young Adult title for those looking. An absolutely enthralling story so far and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Muted, Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt is an engaging and visually stunning start to what promises to be an intriguing story.

The vibrant artwork is accompanied by a lot of detail, perfectly capturing the eerie and mystical atmosphere of the world.

The characters, especially Camille, are well-developed and easy to root for as she navigates the dangers and secrets surrounding her family’s magical legacy. It’s so tight knitted that nothing feels out of place.

Camille is a protagonist with a strong moral compass and a relatable sense of vulnerability. Her desire to break free from the weight of her family’s expectations while staying true to herself makes her journey captivating. She’s curious, brave, and determined, though her impulsiveness sometimes leads her into dangerous territory.

As Camille’s best friend and cousin, Marion provides a grounding presence amidst the chaos. She’s fiercely loyal and supportive, offering a sense of stability and warmth that Camille desperately needs. I enjoyed her witty remarks and the genuine friendship between her and Camille.

Renee, Camille’s aunt, is an enigmatic figure who adds tension and mystery to the story. Her cold demeanor and devotion to the Severin family’s legacy make her a formidable presence. While her motivations aren’t fully clear yet, there’s a complexity to her that hints at more layers to be uncovered.

The pacing is solid, with enough tension and mystery to keep the reader invested. While the world-building is intriguing, I would have loved a bit more depth in exploring the magical system and family dynamics. However, I feel like the following volumes will delve into this more deeply.

"Muted"'s Cover is dark and eery and that what I was hoping for!

The best thing: I got that and even more. Mostly I adore the art work. Sometimes it is a little bit unbalanced but that was in only some panels and I like it when the art work also can be simpler and still fits. From the way some things were portraied I felt reminded of the early W.I.T.C.H. comics which I adored as a kid.

Muted is about much more adult themes and interweaves them with an interesting mystery plot. I would love to discover what really happened in the past as Camille doesn't remember a lot of it. The small parts of answers we got were perfectly sprinkled in and made a lot of fun for guessing what will happen next. But Miranda Mundt is really good at keeping my interest even if some questions are still very open.

I love how Camille is able to open up without her strong-minded aunt. I'm a little bit scared that the month she has is not enough but I will happily read the second installment to find that out. The new characters and their quirks and interests were lovable. I especially love the hinted queerness of Camille and want to know if she has also in this part happiness to find.

I really loved this first Volume!

Muted is a coming-of-age graphic novel about witches based on a Webtoon of the same name. The story begins around the full moon after Camille Severin's 21st birthday, where she is supposed to summon a demon to give her wealth and status. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for Camille, the ritual doesn't quite go to plan.

It needs to be said that I am definitely not the target demographic. While I love the premise, it definitely felt like something I would have enjoyed more at 13-14. Personally, I found the plot to be predictable and cliché but it's definitely something my daughter would love, so I'm going to review this from the teenage angle.

The relationships are definitely what makes this graphic novel interesting. There are a great variety of relationship dynamics at play - family, romance, friendship, pets. It's the perfect setting for an age group where friendships are starting to become more dominant and role models need to be chosen carefully. The story revolves around the idea of found family which will resonate strongly with those who feel like they don't fit in.

The scenes are well drawn and visually appropriate for the subject matter and audience. The vibe is creepy without being graphic. When I first started reading, I expected the story to be darker but it's genuinely uplifting in places. The artist manages to blend the cuter aspects into the overall gloom without sacrificing either side which is to be commended.

The representation in this graphic novel is also excellent! I am very happy with the disability, race and LGBTQ+ inclusion. There are scars, wheelchairs, grey hairs and more. It felt natural without being overbearing and I'm sure the redheads will be equally thrilled with how many Muntz has managed to cram in.

Overall, I don't know if I would read the full series but I would absolutely recommend to my daughter, confident that she would adore it. I'm sure this time next year, I'll be presented with a birthday list full of Muted merch and I'll be overhearing conversations quoting, 'It's okay if you like "PLANTS"' followed by many giggles.

This review will be published to Pending Plays on 7th July 2025.

WOW! I read this in a day! I honestly had no idea I was at the end until it just ended. I need Volume 2 right now! This was so well written, and the graphics were great! When I got to the part where it said, "An Eloi Along?" "Which means that the girl that you saw was probably.... POSSESSED" gave me chills. I love the story line of being torn between what you have been told your whole life to find out you are something so much more. The graphics and photos are beautiful and really pull you in with the story. I will be reading Volume 2 once it is available!!

I will wait and share my reviews online closer to July 8th as asked when ARC was approved. Thank you.
