This was a nice and lighthearted cookbook. The recipes were not very tied to the movie My Neighbor Totoro, but were tasty-sounding Japanese recipes.

This is a fun book if you've watched the movie my neighbor Totoro. This would be a great book for kids that love the movie to have them read back through scenes in the movie and then cook food from that scene. It helps bring the movie to the real world and would be great for younger readers. However it isn't that long of a book and doesn't have that many recipes.

This was a lovely mix of storytelling and recipes! It brought back fond memories of watching My Neighbour Totoro. I'm not the most adventurous person when it comes to food, so I was mainly just enjoying the pictures for those sections. Even so, there were hints and tips that I've already been able to take away and put to use! Perfect for families who want to diversify their cooking together!

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This is a fun addition to go along with the movie. “My Neighbor Totoro” is one of my favorite Miyazaki films. The recipes are easy to follow and the book shows scenes from the film.

I love the connection between the movie and the recipes. These aren't recipes I have seen before and I can't wait to make some of them. I plan on keeping a copy in my classroom to use when we look at different cuisine from parts of the world. The art is beautiful and the section about picking vegetables was super helpful.

"Studio Ghibli’s movies feature enticing food that has been animated in gorgeous detail. With My Neighbor Totoro: The Official Cookbook, fans are invited to recreate these delicious recipes in their own homes!"
Ha I LOVE Totoro so naturally, this book appealed to me! Food? From Ghibli movies? Sign me up!
This lovely cookbook retells the story of Satsuki and Mei's moving into a new home, meeting Totoro, and visiting their mom in hospital. Food is very important in the story, and this book shows stills from the film as well as photographs of the step-by-step process to make the dish. There's also advice on choosing ingredients and cooking methods for the dishes. Absolutely lovely book that will make you smile all the way through to the end!
I received a free ebook copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

This cookbook if the perfect companion for the movie! It contains a little bit of everything. Not only are there some very unique and yummy recipes themed to My Neighbor Todoro, but this book also shares helpful cooking tips which can be used outside of cooking these recipes. Follow along with the story as you explore new recipes and completely immerse yourself in the world of Todoro. It's a great cookbook for the whole family!

This is such a cozy book to look through! I appreciate how there's an introduction to all the characters at the beginning of the book, as well as a small montages of where the recipe shows up in the movie before each recipe so readers can feel a connection, even if you're not familiar with Totoro.
The presentation for the recipes are well done, with pictures and information on substitutions and notes when some ingredients are optional. There is also a guide to give you an idea of how difficult the recipe is so you know what you're getting yourself into.
There is also pages with information on how to pick and store vegetables, as well as quick cooking methods in case you don't want to do a whole recipe.
This would be a great book for those who are fans of Totoro, but really, anyone would enjoy it.

Ok y'all this is cute. Am I personally interested in these recipes? No. Is this a perfect gift for the Totoro fan in your life? Yes. With step by step instructions with pictures and cute pictures from the movie, this is an adorable and cozy book that is perfect for Studio Ghibli fans.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! Not only does it offer such cute illustrations and information from the movie, but it's also really easy to follow and use. The step by step pictures really set it apart from cookbooks of the same kind. Viz, please make one for every Ghibli movie!

This book is very cute and definitely geared toward younger audiences. The book has illustrations and pictures from the movie as well as trivia and fun facts that shares a lot of info that fans might not know about some of the finer points and history of the film. However, my main concern is that the recipes in this cook book are not very accessible for a Western audience.
I currently live in Japan and it seems like the author went to a great length to make sure the recipes are accurate, but almost all of the recipes require ingredients you would be hard-pressed to find in the average American grocery store. Dashi, kombu, adzuki beans, etc etc, are going to be hard to find. This cookbook might have been more sucessful for Western audiences if the author had included substitutions, or additional recipes "inspired by" the movie that were less accurate but also more accessible for the West. But, at the end of the day this is an English translation of a Japanese cookbook for Japanese audiences based on a Japanese movie... so it kinda is what it is.
For that reason, I'm not sure if this is a successful cookbook, even though it is very cute.
