This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

Historical fiction, western, two strong female lead characters pretending to me boys to make it safely across the country to California.

I love that this book has plenty of diverse characters! And girls who support each other! For fans of Walk on Earth a Stranger, this will be a surefire hit.

I liked this historical adventure story about a Chinese-American teen and a black slave teen who escape their respective terrible circumstances and set off on the trail west in 1849. The tale is a nice blend of action and adventure, historical detail (especially interesting for the different reactions of travelers on meeting a Chinese person), and romance. It's easy to root for the strong heroines in this story and it was an enjoyable read.
