Oh, OK! This book brought the plot with the spice! This romance book is the second book in the series and you can easily jump in to this book even if you have it read the series( it’s what I did 🤣). I really enjoyed both characters in this story. The mental health representation in this book was great. You don’t see it too often so when I find a book that shows positive mental health representation and what a person needs to get through anxiety or any other type of mental health issue I am thrilled. Now I loved how both main characters met and then that’s when some of the spice came in and it’s hard for me to decide how many 🌶️ to give this book because the first third of the book there wasn’t that much space but then once the spice started, it started getting spicy throughout the book show because this book still has plot. I’m gonna do three 🌶️. So all in all four ⭐️ and three 🌶️. If you need a good romance book that has plot and spice definitely pick this one up.

Holy crap! Ms. Vyk, this book was freaking fantastic! I read this one before reading the first and now I have to go back! I can’t believe that I haven’t read this until now! Marlee clearly has a lot to work through from her past but that doesn’t stop her from being a ray of sunshine! Sebastian is a sexy club owner who prefers to keep to himself. These two had great chemistry and I did not want to put this one down! Well done!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Vyk Peters for providing me with an eARC of King of Clubs in return for my honest opinion!

I read King of Hearts last year, and was absolutely stoked to find out we were getting Marlee's story in King of Clubs. Marlee's situation was heavy hinted at in KoH, but we get a much deeper insight into the toxic and abusive relationship with Lucas that she escapes at the beginning of KoC. Full credit must go to Peter's on how much care she has taken with writing on such a heavy and triggering topic, I feel that she has given us a true insight into the strength and courage it takes to leave and recover from domestic abuse. It was inspiring to see Marlee's strength and growth throughout the book.

In terms of the relationship between Seb and Marlee, again this was beautifully done. They had clear chemistry from the start, and the spice was certainly spicy! The dynamic between these two is great, they were both learning how to become vulnerable with one another. Seb was beautiful with Marlee, the typical "looks scary" but is protective and thoughtful to his gal. I found myself crying happy tears for Marlee, she deserved to find happiness and to see what a healthy and happy relationship could be.

The ending was really intense, I did not see the plot twist coming at all! I feel that in KoC there has been set ups for at least another 3 couples in future books, so I cannot wait to see where this series goes next!

There aren't many books that leave me at a loss for words. (To those new to my reviews that's a good thing) It was angsty and emotions definitely played a big role. I did find it cute and tugging at my heart a few times. I enjoyed this story, the characters and can't wait to find out more.

ARC Review of King of Clubs by Vyk Peters

A spectacular read that has me wanting to grab the first book and read the whole thing again! Steamy chemistry and sweet moments.

Today was the day.
Marlee has recently - and abruptly - left her abusive and toxic relationship. She's now focused on restarting her life, and trying to get back out there with the help of her best friend and therapy!
One fateful poker night, she is finally introduced to the handsome and quiet brooding Sebastian.
Instant chemistry.
Now neither of them can get each other out of their heads.
When Marlee's nasty past starts to come back into her life, and her safety is in question, Sebastian is all too happy to step in and save the day. What he didn't prepare for was...when was he going to let her go?

Fantastic read! Adding the first book onto my TBR and going to reread the whole series again! Chemistry was excellent. Characters were great. We are given a twist that has you given a double dose of crazy unstable just to keep things interesting on top of the hot steaminess between our MCs.

I believe the plot of the book was great. The relationship was amazing between Sebastian and Marlee. Marlee's character was super easy to relate to, and she was portrayed perfectly. I love me a bad boy, so Sebastian was right up my alley. The only negative thing I can say is that I could not get into the writing style of the author. I feel certain chapters were too descriptive where it would often lose me.

After reading King of Hearts I was ready for the next book in the series soon as it dropped. I was so happy to get an advanced copy of King of Clubs. I really liked Marlee in King of Hearts and I was so glad when it was announced the next book would be hers. I had a feeling it would be based on a sensitive subject due to how King of Hearts ended. This book is based on a domestic abuse survivor so if this is a trigger for you this is a warning. I really loved seeing Marlee become stronger throughout the book and become more of her old self with the added strength and growth. I enjoyed seeing her dynamic with Sebastian where she would let herself become vulnerable with him showing how much she trusted him. There are a few twists and turns in the 2nd half of the book which definitely kept you guessing and the detective in me got this one wrong.

I really liked that Arna & Andy were still included in the book a decent amount, I loved Marlee & Arna’s friendship and wish I had that myself.

I enjoyed reading this book and was honored to be chosen to read the ARC. This book kept me laughing with how comedic and witty the FMC was. The story line was particularly relatable as I have also related to domestic abuse, but aside from that, the story in of itself was relatable. There was definitely a plot twist throughout it all. It got me twice while I was reading, and I literally never saw it coming. I will say I wanted more of the ending but that's also because I expect every book to end in a marriage or babies. I will defiitley reread this book as well as recommend it 10 times over!

this was such a cute book!! i adore marlee; she is so strong, and i literally just want to give her a hug 😭 this book covers and explores a topic -- violence against women -- and i think explores it beautifully. sebestian was so good to and for her, and i absolutely love their relationship! peters definitely knows how to write and make me love (and hate!) the characters in this book.

thank you to netgalley & vyk peters for this arc!

I enjoyed this book and am glad the author touched on domestic violence issues. I’m grateful Marlee was able to escape from her tormentor. My one complaint would be when mentioning having sex, to not use the “f” word. In my humble opinion, making love is preferable to vulgarity. Don’t get me wrong, I’m hardly a prude, but when two people are in love, I think it makes a difference.

This book has given me a whole new meaning to reviewing books. The story of Marlee and Seb is heartbreaking, funny, romantic and suspenseful all at once and I lapped this book up like you wouldn’t believe. Lord of trigger warnings but nothing I felt uncomfortable even with trauma backgrounds.

I loved King of Hearts so I was excited to get my hands on King of Clubs!

When we left Marlee in book one, we could see something wasn’t right in her relationship with Lucas and it’s discovered pretty quickly here that we were right. As Marlee is getting back on her feet after leaving her abusive ex, she crosses paths with Seb, the broody bar owner who is also a friend of her BFF’s fiancé. They are instantly drawn to each other, but Marlee finds it hard to trust and Seb has never had an actual relationship. Seb is really such a sweetheart with her…he’s patient, supportive, protective, and really tries to be what she needs.

These two had great chemistry and tension from the start and the spice scenes were a good mix that reflected the feelings at that point of the storyline. Some were fast, some were slow, some showed a willingness to take some risks.

The only thing that threw me was her BFF’s lapse during the plot twist. I won’t say more, but it really didn’t track with how protective of Marlee she had been up to that point.

A change-up from the first book, this one comes with some trigger warnings, a little suspense, and a plot twist. While it’s a standalone in the connected series, I would really recommend reading King of Hearts first.

A big thanks to Vyk and Netgalley for this ARC! I’m really looking forward to Cooper and Eva’s story 😊

I have to say that I enjoyed this book more than book 1. Marlee and Sebastian’s relationship was beautiful and I loved how they grew together. I liked both of these characters in book 1 so was excited they got to have their own story for book 2. The spice was great and the story was also good. Can’t wait for more in this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the characters were loveable, the storyline gripping and the writing was fantastic.
The way the author wrote with such care about such a sensitive topic as DV was amazing. They really showed what it was like in the aftermath for a victim and had me feeling all the feels for Marlee’s character.
And the spice, it just HIT *chefs kiss*, I loved it. I absolutely adored Sebastian, I mean when the MMC’s say things like “Without even trying, you buried yourself in the depths of my bloodstream until I felt as though I couldn't function without you.” How can you not melt a little?
Highly recommended, but as always check the trigger warnings and look after your mental health first.

Let me start by apologizing because I remember absolutely nothing from the first book. Oops.

This one? It's fine. Not bad, not amazing—just okay. Sebastian and Marlee were clearly meant to be, and the tension between them was thick from the very start. But the storyline? Took some weird turns. And honestly? It dragged on a bit too long.

Also, fair warning—there are some pretty heavy topics in this one. So, if you’re picking it up, be prepared.

Read this so fast I almost forgot to eat! More than a romance, some tense and serious topics of domestic violence, battering, stalking, kidnapping, and mental illness are handled well and create a complex plot around regaining trust and self confidence. Of course not without friends and love in the mix. Great cast of characters round things out.

Vyk Peters is at it again with a story that grips you with personal growth, communication, a little sprinkling of drama and a lot of stream. Seb and Marlee sound great together and sebs house sounds like my dream! It was great seeing arna and Andy blossom in the background!
I wondered what king of spades would be so I am excited to see copper introduced as the owner of spade distilleries and I look forward to seeing the potential relationship with Eva. Who will flix get with? How will it involve diamonds?
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
