Detective Casey White is on leave when she comes across a young woman in the shoreline of North Carolinas Outer Banks. While the young woman passes away shortly after their meeting Casey can't help but wonder what the woman went through to end up there.
And could it have anything to do with her own missing daughter?

I had issues with my netgalley shelf app and this audiobook vanished before I was able to finish it.
But the 40 or so % I made it through before that happened I did thoroughly enjoy. I was still a bit mixed up with some of the characters but that could have been ironed out in the second half of the book.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out so that I can hopefully finish it soon!

Detective Casey White is on enforced leave when she stumbles across a distraught girl at the edge of the woods. The injured girl keeps asking about her baby. Casey joins forces with the local police to search for the baby and uncover the girl's identity.

Where Lost Girls Go is my first book by author B. R. Spangler and is the first in the Detective Casey White series. The prologue has a dream-like quality and didn't really draw me in, it's the first two chapters that grab you. In chapter 1 we learn of a girl waking to discover she's been buried alive. In desperation she claws her way out of the grave, her only thought being to protect her unborn baby.

Chapter 2 is a complete change of story, going back fourteen years when Casey White's life is turned upside down. Casey is at home with her five-year-old daughter, Hannah, when she realises her daughter has managed to open the door and get outside. Rushing out Casey watches as Hannah is abducted.

In chapter 3 we are back to the present day. Casey has been forced to take time off from her job as a detective and decides to use the time to continue her search for her missing daughter, a daughter she has never given up on despite fourteen years having passed. On her way to the Outer Banks, she is startled when she spots a girl in the woods, a girl in an extremely distressed state.

The condition of the girl is a cause for concern, requiring a police investigation. When the body of another girl is found on an abandoned yacht Casey works with Jericho Flynn, the ex-sheriff, on the two cases. When they realise that the two cases could be linked this leads to the possibility that someone has been abducting girls, and there may be more out there.

It was extremely easy to understand Casey's motivation, she's been driven for fourteen years out of guilt. In all that time she's never given up hope of finding Hannah, the abduction haunts her every waking moment. Not only does she feel driven to solve the case of the abducted girls found in the Outer Banks but she also holds on to the belief that it may help her find Hannah.

Unraveling clues, the pair of Casey and Jericho uncover a series of shocking crimes that have been committed, gradually getting closer and closer to the truth behind everything. A tense confrontation leads to a devastating conclusion and disquieting revelations.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC opportunity!

Wow. This was so good. It was like a movie and was really the perfect crime thriller.

I definitely clocked the mayor early on, and his wrap up was really quick but the whole sting operation and crime ring? Insane.

I will definitely be reading more of this series, it has me hooked and i need to know more about Hannah.

This is the first book in a series featuring Detective Casey White and is set in North Carolina. Casey’s own daughter Hannah was snatched from outside their home when she was a child and has never been found. When the body of a teenage girl is discovered Casey begins to investigate who is taking children and where are they being kept for years until they are murdered.
This is a fast paced, heartbreaking story great for fans of psychological thrillers. I found the narrator to be a little jarring which detracted from my enjoyment of the book.

The end makes you wonder if there will be a follow-up...

Wow, what a ride! Where Lost Girls Go is an action-packed, fast-paced thriller that had me completely hooked from start to finish. B.R. Spangler does a fantastic job of blending heart-pounding suspense with deep emotional stakes, making this book a gripping read (or in my case, listen!).

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Patricia Rodriguez, and let me tell you—her performance was absolutely brilliant! The way she does different voices for each character, the way she builds tension with her tone… it completely sucked me into the story. I could NOT stop listening. Her narration was spot on for this kind of thriller, making every twist and turn even more intense.

Speaking of twists—this book is full of them! Just when I thought I had something figured out, Spangler threw in another surprise. It’s action upon action, keeping you on edge the whole time. I also loved how Casey’s personal story—her missing daughter—was woven into the main case. You could feel her pain, her desperation, and her constant search for hope in every little clue. It made her such a strong, relatable character. And can we talk about her romance with Jericho? I loved that little subplot! I’m really hoping we see more of their relationship in the next book.

Now, I have to mention one small thing that made me laugh (and slightly annoyed me): the name Ashtole. I mean… really? Every time I heard it, my brain went somewhere else. 😂 Not sure what the author was thinking with that one!

Overall, I loved this book, and I’m definitely diving into more from this series. Highly recommend!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I thought this was a good start to a series with Detective Casey White. I am interested to see where things go and how her continued search for her daughter continues. I thought the book was interesting and it kept me wanting to come back. The twists were good and unpredictable until the clues you found out right at the end of the book. I would like to see a little more development of the setting and to go a little deeper with the characters especially Casey and Jericho. Overall, it was a good solid start to a series I can't wait to continue!

WOW. Just WOW. I am so glad that I got to listen to this book. It had me right out the door. I am not committed to the remainder 11 books of this series. I 100% could feel the things that Casey White did. I want to know if she finds her daughter. This story can be a little gut wrenching with all the things happening in the storyline.

Philadelphia detective Casey White is on forced leave after nearly killing a fellow officer—an incident fueled by the lingering trauma of her daughter’s disappearance 14 years earlier. While chasing a faint lead on her daughter's case, she heads to the Outer Banks. There, she takes a wrong turn and stumbles upon an injured teenager in a nightdress. As she’s drawn into assisting the local PD it becomes clear that a serial killer has been operating in the area for years.

Let’s be honest—there’s a lot about this book that stretches believability. Would Casey, a detective on leave for being too mentally unstable, really be allowed to work an active investigation? Probably not. Does the plot hinge on some wild coincidences? Absolutely. But none of that stopped me from being completely invested in finding out what comes next.

Told mostly from Casey’s perspective, with brief (and thankfully minimal) chapters from the killer’s point of view.

I hesitate to call a book this dark and violent fun, but it’s undeniably entertaining. The level of mayhem is over the top, but the pacing is relentless, and I was glued to every twist—whether in excitement or sheer disbelief. It’s the kind of thriller where logic takes a backseat, but if you’re here for the ride, it’s a wild one.

This audiobook was so thrilling! This was my first time listening to an audiobook without taking the help of a physical book or an ebook. I am glad that I chose this one. The plot was interesting but simple enough to follow, the writing style was great and the narration elevated it to s whole different world. I felt immersed as if I was myself insude the story. Loved the twists and turns and of course, our detective Casey. I will 100% continue in this series. This was very good time. (Rating; 4.5 out of 5 stars).

I recently discovered this book through Netgalley and listen to the audiobook. I loved the pace of the book. It started right into action, that was well balanced throughout the book. Loved the topic. I loved the main character, and appreciate the vulnerability she had. I did have a harder time with the romance. I had a hunch it would head in that direction but I didn't find any true or strong connection/chemistry between the characters, it felt forced. I would have enjoyed a better built up to it.
Though I guessed what would happen, I still felt satisfied with the ending and would recommend this to a friend.
I look forward to reading the next books in the series! Really glad to have a new author to search for in bookstores 😀

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the copy of the audio for my honest opinion.

I love a good detective novel. This audio book of "Where Lost Girls Go" was really well done. There were a couple times I think that you had to expand your belief on some of the decisions that Casey made as a trained detective, but it worked out for the most part. They mystery was good, I enjoyed this bit of romance and the ending was great. I can't wait to continue on in the series.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions, action, and suspense. While the intense emotional start and the unexpected twists in character arcs threw me off at first, the narrator gave a compelling performance and the fast-paced action kept me hooked. The characters, especially Casey and Jericho, were intriguing but their inconsistent personalities and sudden shifts felt jarring at times. The story's conclusion, however, tied everything together nicely, with a satisfying ending that left me relieved. Despite a few missteps, the book offers an exciting and engaging read for fans of thrillers, especially those who appreciate strong narration and fast-paced sequences.

I was lucky enough to receive an audiobook ARC of Where Lost Girls Go, the first in a series featuring Detective Casey White. The print copy of this novel was published on 15th May 2020, and since then, there have been 11 additional books in the series, with the 12th set to be released in just a few days. It’s exciting that this series is being recorded for audiobook release, and I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next instalments.

As you may have guessed from the tone of the above paragraph, I absolutely loved this book. There’s very little for me to criticise in this review. I adored the story, the writing, the characters, the setting, and the twists and turns — not to mention the ending that left me anticipating more in the main character’s journey. The main question I have now is whether I should dive straight into the rest of the Casey White novels or wait for the next audiobook releases!

The character of Casey White is incredibly well written, and I found the same to be true for all of the characters. They have enough flaws to feel believable, but not so many that they become unlikeable. The setting of Outer Banks, North Carolina, is so well realised that by the end of the book, I found myself wanting to visit and become part of the community. This is a testament to the writing talent of B.R. Spangler and the skillful performance of the audiobook by Patricia Rodriguez.

I won’t go too deep into the plot, as I went into this story blind and loved the way the twists and surprises unfolded. It follows Detective Casey White, who, while on holiday in Outer Banks, NC, discovers a teenage girl who is barely alive. She begins to wonder if this girl could be her long-lost daughter, who was abducted when she was only three years old. From there, the story delves into a mystery within the local community.

As mentioned, Patricia Rodriguez’s performance of the audiobook is fantastic. Her narration is clear and enjoyable to listen to, with both her male and female voices well done. I sincerely hope that if future audiobooks in this series are recorded, Patricia will be the one to bring them to life.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy a good mystery with relatable characters and clear, concise writing. I was initially going to give this book 4.5 stars, but after sitting down to write this review, I couldn’t figure out what would justify the -0.5, so I’m happy to give it a solid 5 stars. I’m looking forward to reading or listening to more of this series soon!

Thank you to @netgalley, @brspangler, and @bookouture for the audiobook ARC of this novel.

Where Lost Girls Go by B.R. Spangler is a gripping and emotional start to the Detective Casey White series. The audiobook plunges listeners into a chilling mystery as Detective Casey White is called to investigate the body of a teenage girl found on the shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The case stirs up painful memories for Casey, reminding her of the daughter she lost years ago. But as she delves deeper into the investigation, it becomes clear that the girl found is tied to a series of unsolved kidnappings and murders in the area, and the killer may be closer to her own past than she realizes.

Spangler expertly combines a tense, twisty thriller with an emotional character-driven narrative. Casey’s personal stakes and unresolved grief make her an incredibly compelling lead as she navigates the haunting mystery of Cheryl Parry’s death, while also facing her own fears. The audiobook's pacing is perfect, with the suspense building steadily as Casey uncovers more about the killer’s twisted pattern and the disturbing connection to her daughter.

The eerie atmosphere of the Outer Banks adds to the tension, and the plot's twists will keep you guessing until the very end. With its haunting premise and strong, empathetic lead, Where Lost Girls Go is a must-read (or listen) for fans of crime thrillers, full of suspense and deeply emotional stakes.

After some confusion, I wondered had I already listened to this title, given that it was originally published as Taken From Home, and that it is the first in a series of 12 I was convinced, however as the story progressed I realised I hadn’t, but it’s very reminiscent of another series, I wish I could remember which one 🤔

I really enjoyed this title, it a fantastic start to a series, we get to know our protagonists really well and if this is anything to go by it’s set to be a brilliant series.

There’s a large amount of distressing content regarding child trafficking that readers may find traumatic, however I felt that the author dealt with it in an appropriate way, it fit the storyline especially well, considering that we meet Casey taking a break from work but still searching for her own daughter, abducted from her front lawn.

Great start.

Excellent narration 🎧

Huge thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ALC 🎧

*there is a slight recording issue at around 68% where the story repeats itself.
