The cover of this book is beautiful and besides that sparking my interest I have grown fond of beach books that incorporate sea life especially, sea turtles. I listened to the audiobook version of this book and felt like I was on a mini field trip. The narrator Kate Coventry did an excellent job telling this story. The sounds of ocean waves and sea gulls is an added bonus. This is a beautiful story with a lot of good information about sea turtles.

Literally the absolute cutest. I’m having baby fever and my husband’s favorite animal is a sea turtle and we plan on doing a marine animal theme for our future nursery and this is not only cute but informative and sounds so peaceful.

The Secret Life of a Sea Turtle is a beautifully written book about what we know about the life of sea turtles. It does not shy away from the realities of how many sea turtles don't make it to maturity but is told by a wonderful narrator, Kate Coventry, who gives the perfect soft and hopeful tone for this story. I adored this book and hope to get it added to my library's Libby service.

The Secret Life of a Sea Turtle is a wonderful book for children who want to learn about Sea Turtles. The audiobook is perfect! The background music that is in the audiobook has ocean sounds and draws you into the book. It would be great for children (like mine) who are obsessed with all things ocean. We live in North Dakota, but I grew up in Florida, and it reminds me of home.

The author wrote a passionate and engaging story which seamlessly blends facts with the story of the life of a sea turtle. The narrator is also top notch. This would be a great addition to any homeschool family or elementary school classroom.

This follows the life of a sea turtle from hatching to laying her own eggs. I thought it did a good job of illustrating how dangerous a young sea turtle's life is without being too scary for children. I thought it was both very immersive and full of facts about sea turtles.

Suuuuper cute, quick listen, that shows the hard journey of a sea turtle mama and some of their other trials. It also covers some very basic info on the different types of sea turtles and conservation.

Well done. Great for kids.


Audio was fantastic.

Love love love this! The audio and narrator add so much to the story of sea turtles. Sound effects ground listeners in the oceanic setting and the narrator is an incredible match telling even scary parts of the story (turtles fighting to reach the ocean safely from predators) in an intense but still calm for young readers way. I would not have been a serious listener of books for younger audiences, but will do so going forward - this was a great audio.

This was a bittersweet story of a sea turtle going through life. It educates readers on the life of a sea turtle and the troubles they face. And cool things they just know how to instinctively do. The audiobook was very immersive and filled with lots of wonderful sound effects.

After the story ended the author wrote even more facts about turtles, what you can do to help the turtles in your community and a little information on how to work with turtles in the future.

I think any child who is passionate about turtles would get something useful from this book.

Fun and informative audio book. It was like listening to a National Geographic documentary, combining a story with facts. I've always loved sea turtles and this book taught me a lot in a fun way. The descriptions and information are presented nicely (even with background sound effects) so you learn without being lectured at. I also loved the extra information after the story including characteristics of other types of sea turtles and ways we can keep the oceans safe for turtles and other sea life.

I highly recommend this audiobook for children and adults. You'll learn a lot with a good story in just 35 minutes.

The Secret Life of a Sea Turtle is such an engaging audiobook. Filled with extra sound effects (waves rolling, scraping out of shell, climbing out of the hole, bubbles, and music), we follow a green turtle via an in-depth and scientific journey from egg, juvenile, to an adult! Using developmentally appropriate language, the author does no shy away from death- in fact most turtle hatchlings die at land, due to predators in the ocean, or because of human involvement. I especially appreciate the authors note at the end where she gives practical skills to children and adults on how we can keep our oceans safe for green turtles.

🎧 Audiobook Review!

The Secret Life of a Sea Turtle is an educational children’s book that follows a green sea turtle as she hatches, and then throughout her life until she lays her own eggs. The book goes into great detail about what causes harm to sea turtles as they age into adulthood, and the journeys sea turtles make throughout their lives. This recording has a very calming background track, as if you were listening to a documentary right in the aquarium. In addition to the background music, the narrators voice is very calm and soothing for children to listen along. My son (age 6) was engaged as we listened to this together in the car, and I (age 30) was as well! We would recommend this audio recording as it is educational, engaging, and calming!

This is a really cute little book! It doesn’t shy away from the facts (most baby sea turtles die, and one clutch of eggs may have two fathers) but it is easy and accessible to read. It’s a good middle ground between very basic picture books and long chapter books.

I especially love audiobooks for this type of book because you get all the back matter included. As a child, my parents never read me the authors note for a picture book, and as an adult, I’m not going to read every word after the story ends. Audiobooks do that for you.

I felt like I was watching a National Geographic documentary unfold as I listened to this story. I am fascinated with sea turtles and enjoyed this book. I think it will capture readers/listeners attention immediately. Very interesting and informative.

This was a wonderfully produced audiobook!

The information was very accurate & it did not shy away from some of the 'darker' themes of surviving as a newborn sea creature. I think that it managed those sections well, providing accurate portrayals of those challenges, without dwelling too deeply/graphically. I think that style is a good introduction to young readers.

I feel like this is a combo where I would want to read the physical copy of the book at the same time as listening to the audio. The narration and sound effects added so much life to the story, however, I saw a sample of the illustrations and I can not wait to see them fully.

I think that this is a perfect introductory book to a budding young scientist!
