This was a fantastic collection of essays about various members of the LGBTQ+ community, and how their journey from children to adults in a sport they loved has evolved. In many cases there were feelings that they didn't fit in or would have to choose the girls team or boys team. But there are some sports, such as sailing, where that is less of a concern.
I liked reading about famous sports players who have fought for advocacy as well as people from all walks of life. Some were professionals, others ametuers, but everyone wanted to belong and enjoy a sport for the sake of playing. Everyone deserves these rights. I learned more about the arguments for trans students to be allowed to play in the gender that is right for them, and I feel like books like this help break down barriers for allies as well as young readers who may find that they don't quite fit in to the gender they were assigned at birth.

Netgalley ARC - YES! I really hope this gets seen by the young queer eyes who need it most. This is an uplifting and encouraging collection of profiles and stories from/about queer and specifically transgender and gender non-conforming athletes. Obviously an incredibly relevant topic in the current media, but also just because its part of so many queer kids experience. I know that personally, soccer was a huge part of my childhood but I abandoned it because of dysphoria and discomfort playing on the girls team after coming out. I think this speaks directly to the experience of young queer/trans people in a way that is very important when a lot of other media about trans athletics is negative news. I found the sections by Karleigh Webb, Schuyler Bailar, and CeCé Telfer particularly moving, and I enjoyed the mix of athletes, some were new to me and some familiar. I highly recommend this!
