Jess is a teen girl from a wealthy family who has all she wants in life. But because of some things that had happeded with her mother and her best friend, she has gotten herself into trouble: after drinking, sunbathing topless and using her parent's creditcard to buy an expensive dress, her father is raged at her and signs her up to volunteer at a local soup kitchen. There she makes new friends, especially with Flynn, who is a client to the soup kitchen. He comes to the soup kitchen daily with his younger brother for food, as his family has hit hard times and is struggling. She also meets Wilf, the old guy who runs the greenhouse.

The relationship between Jesse and Flynn blooms up and is very dynamic, but the manager of the soup kitchen is not happy with this, and moves Flynn to a different soup kitchen location so he and Jess will not cross paths again. Jess is devastated when she hears this, but she is willing to fight to see Flynn again. And maybe..that will happen again.

I truly liked the story of The Story of Us. What I liked about it was the rich girl-bad boy teen relationship drama. Everyone around them is against them being together, but they see it works. Jess does make some not so wise choices in the beginning of the book, and I think it was only right by her father to let her volunteer at the soup kitchen, located on the other side of town where totally different people live than in her priviliged small world. It was nice to see how Jess changed because of this, and learns that everyone has a story, she begins to grow beyond what she could've ever expected. Making unlikely friends, she begins to change little by little. So yes, her character truly makes an interesting progress in the book, which was very entertaining to read.

The chemistry between Flynn and Jess is undeniable. They have a great connection and it was thrilling to be able to along for the ride with them while they try to figure out where they fit into each other's lives.

The Truth About Us by Janet Gurtler is a beautiful journey of self discovery and healing for Jess, her family and her friends. And it is a book I recommend reading!
