This is a short read and really cute. It took me a while to catch on to what was going on, with the short dialogue but once I did, I really enjoyed this.

Love on the Horizon Vol. 1 by Machi Yamashita is a cute, heartwarming, and sweet BL romance manga.

Just like the front cover, the artwork and drawing style was really nice and the story was easy to follow.

As the series progresses, it will be interesting to see their chemistry grow. I think this is a great book and I can't wait for the next volume.

Love on the Horizon centers around the budding attraction between college students and next door neighbours Nagi Kitagawa and Yuu Yamasaki.

This first manga volume was so incredibly sweet! It gave me all the butterflies, and it's very tender in its love story. The art style is beautiful, very evocative and consistent. It's interesting to notice the influence of the art of Chainsaw Man on other genres as well.

The pacing is fairly high for a romance manga, but that is fitting since this story will only have 14 chapters once it's all wrapped up. This first volume contains 5 of these chapters, and can easily be read as a stand alone as well.

Love on the Horizon has everything you'd want out of a BL romance manga. The yearning, the awkwardness and the happiness. I'd recommend this manga to people looking for a sweet, tender love story. If you enjoyed Sasaki and Miyano, I would recommend giving this one a shot.

Nagi Kitagawa is a first-year art university student. Yuu Yamasaki is Nagi’s senpai and his neighbor. Whenever Yuu gets drunk at their club’s get together, Nagi brings him home and puts him to bed. Nagi realizes his feelings for his upperclassman deepening, especially after Yuu kissing him. Does Yuu share Nagi’s feelings?
The art style is a little different than what I am used to. It was not off-putting.
LOVE ON THE HORIZON is a sweet, heartwarming story. There was no real conflict that stood in the boys’ way. I like how Yuu went to talk to Nagi when he thought his kohai avoiding him, instead of letting it drag on.
I would definitely read the next one to see how Nagi and Yuu’s relationship progresses. Also, to see if any obstacles crop up that they both need to tackle.

I will say I’m not a fan of the art style, and the dialogue often felt stiff at times, but I liked it overall.

I did like the naturally progression of the relationship and can’t wait to see more!

This was really cute! The relationship was adorable, and I loved how there was no drama. Just straight fluff. This felt like a one-shot to me, so I am curious to see what more will happen between them - I hope it stays super lighthearted and warm. I would love to see them all go on vacation to Nagi's hometown like they talked about. I also appreciated that the spicy scenes didn't show a ton.

Machi Yamashita’s Love on the Horizon is pure BL romance perfection. The first volume is an absolute delight—wholesome, sweet, and undeniably cute. Yamashita’s art style is stunning, perfectly capturing the warmth and chemistry between the characters.

The slow burn is masterfully done, drawing you in with every glance and unspoken moment, making the payoff all the more satisfying. And when things do heat up, the spicier scenes are handled beautifully—just the right balance of tension and tenderness.

I didn’t want this volume to end, and I already can’t wait for more. If you love BL romance with heart, charm, and breathtaking artwork, Love on the Horizon is a must-read.

(In fact, I’m intrigued that this is only the first volume, as it felt so satisfyingly complete.)

As expected from our Machi-sensei: a flavorful, heart-tugging romance with sprinkles of angst and cutesy! I love this one with all my heart lol. My heart won’t stop drumming while reading this. That’s what sensei does to you with her works—makes you crazy for bl, makes the world better for a few moments!

This was my first time reading a manga and I really enjoyed it! The layout was easy to get the hang of and I liked how it was set into different episodes to break it up a bit. I enjoy how you can start to notice the small glances and lovey looks one character gives the other to watch the attraction grow. I think most queer people (especially young adults) can relate to having a crush on someone but feeling like it can’t go anywhere, assuming the person isn’t like you. Nagi is such a sweet and shy character who I think is easily relatable. In the beginning we see the character Yu-san dealing with his own struggles and seems to get a big emphasis on the story but then it kind of disappears. The story leaves it open for more in the series so I’m curious to see if those struggles come back into play. Overall, I liked Love on the Horizon. It’s something that’s quick and easy to fall into and whether or not you’ve read manga before you’ll enjoy it. Thank you to NetGalley for the ability to read this book.

This was a sweet read, with a pretty formulaic plot. The characters have a warm and predictable love story, and the lack of "drama" makes for a fairly mild and comforting experience.

This gave me nothing. It's not offensive or anything. It's just so empty.

I didn't feel like the characters had any chemistry & I was disappointed.

First year university student Nagi meets his upperclassman Yu who also happen to be his neighbour. After making a habit of helping his drunk upperclassman home after a night out (and being forced to spend the night due to his clinginess). They slowly develop a relationship after pining for eachother.

Wholesome if not formulaic but a formula done well. The characters are uncomplicated but do not fall completely flat. Though this is a volume one so there might be more development down the line. A well drawn artstyle that is consistent with the mangakas previous work. An attention to detail when it comes to fashion tailored to each character.

All in all it was fun escapism.

A cute, lighthearted romance between two neighbors who find themselves falling for each other. I really enjoyed both Nagi and Yuu’s characters and I will definitely be reading the next volume to see where their story goes. The art style was beautiful and the character design was unique and even the side characters had lots of detail and personality.

I do think it was a bit too fast paced and sometimes jumped around a bit too much. I would’ve liked to see Nagi and Yuu yearn after each other a bit more before confessing their feelings.

Overall super enjoyable read!

I enjoyed this sweet romance. The boys make a really sweet couple and I enjoy the theme of people finding first new love.

This was so warm and cozy, for the time that I spent reading I felt like I was engulfed in a domestic and love-you-crush blanket.

Nagi crushes on Yuu, who he looks up tk and thinks he has no chance with, but it seems that isn't correct. They're neighbors and have many excuses to keep bumping into each other.

This story is cute and heartwarming. Any hints of exploring each other's bodies are done tastefully (fade to black, though you do see some flesh and some adult struggles).

Like another reviewer on goodreads points out - I am wondering what we will get in book two, but I will let myself be surprised and I will definitely give it a try, if only for how sweet these two are.

Machi Yamashita said they were nervous since this was their first published book but I don't think they have anything to be nervous about.

Perfect if you're looking for: character focussed story / fluff / comfort no hurt
Skip if you want: plot driven story / angst / struggles and problems / jealously

The translation is well done and the author's notes (at the end rather than continuesly during the story) are a nice addition

This was a very simple story, with a cute but simple concept. A pair of next door neighbors slowly fall in love with one another before getting together. There is also the entire thing of Nagi sleeping in the same bed with Yu while Yu is passed out drunk, and Nagi sneaking out before Yu ever wakes up which is...odd. But it's played as a cute romantic thing but I still think that's kind of weirdo behavior. There's also just nothing really to this story. It moves from pining to romance a bit too quickly for my taste. I just like a little bit more substance to characters or at least some more building of a relationship before it jumps to being in a committed relationship with [spice] scenes. The art was beautiful, and I did enjoy the character designs.

This BL manga was cute and fluffy, it had my heart doki doki! The typical neighbor to neighbor, then going to the same university is like meet cute but also love at first sight ^-^ I enjoyed that this wasn't super heavy on explicit or angst, fluffy and close door romance are a good start for anyone who wants this cozy kicking your feet BL.
The romance development was slow but subtle, once again, the sexual parts were minimalistic and very empathic for one another. I can't wait for the next installment of this author's work, thank you for this opportunity!

This was such an adorable and lighthearted read with minimal angst. I absolutely loved this first installment and all of the characters were very loveable. The art was wonderful and it's a perfect BL for those who prefer a more closed door approach when it comes to the intimacy scenes. I will happily continue reading this series.

This was cute, but kind of small. The story has been going on before the reader comes in, even if the flashback explains how it began. The men have already a set pattern in their relationship: Nagi pines after Yu and helps him home every time he passes out drunk after a student party, and then end up sleeping at his place because Yu wants to cuddle, but Yu doesn’t remember anything in the morning. Then one time Yu does remember, sort of, and both are embarrassed. But they talk it out, realise both like the other, and start dating. Everything is sweet, cute, and wholesome, with a hint of spice.

This is volume one, but it could be left at this. It’s low-stakes, no drama, and I don’t see how anything would change in following volumes. I’m happy where they end up.

This was overall cute, unobjectionable, but fairly tropey/not breaking much new ground, especially in the writing. I swear there were some pages of text that I've read, down to the exact words, in other BL series. On the positive side, I really liked the character designs and the way this artist illustrates clothing. Both MCs were very cute/attractive/looked like real people with a style. And hooray for "we confess and then we actually start dating," which I keep lauding but maybe just is much more common in BL nowadays as opposed to when I started reading it (aging myself here.)
