A short, great read!

Not at all what I expected in the best ways- the twists and turns had me going in a few different directions and I was still wrong…. And I loved it😂

Well written and not the typical husband/wife thriller story. Worth the read and rec in my opinion!

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first time reading from this author and I will be looking forward to reading some more!

His first wife is an exciting thriller that focuses on Abby trying to work out whether she really knows her husband. The book focuses on various avenues of mystery including Abby trying to work out what happened to her husband’s first wife.

Some thoughts after reading:

• 100% this gave me Fredia McFadden vibes. It was snappy and fast paced, I appreciated that the writing wasn’t overly descriptive, and the author didn’t go on long winded explanations or tangents for things. Everything felt like it had a point and was relevant to the story.

• The end twist was the most surprising part. I genuinely didn’t expect it which, not only surprised me, but I was so glad about. I’ve found that from reading psychological thrillers it really does take a lot for me to be genuinely surprised now, so this was impressive and so well thought out. I have to give the author major credits here!

• I liked that we had the POV of the husband. And how refreshing his character was. Often with these stereotypical male characters, there is this underlying arrogance or narcissism that is not recognised by the male character himself. In this case, the author makes the character acknowledge their behaviour and I really liked that. Yes, he is a douche for his behaviour and things he’s done, but equally, he isn’t necessarily a ‘bad’ person. Yes, you may dislike him and how stupid he is at times, but I also loved how at the end, the ‘bad’ we associate with him is suddenly hugely different to how we associate ‘bad’ with other characters.

• I do feel like with the storyline around the first wife’s disappearance I was expecting a bit more. I wished there had been more conversations or details about it all. Especially because the twist is so good, it would have been nice to have a few more clues or evidence that would have cemented the idea even more.

My lower rating is entirely personal and down to fact that I do think the plot surrounding the first wife could have had more substance and more impact on the story – considering that was the entire reason I did request this book.

I also think, as with Fredia McFadden books; this was a bit of a palette cleanser read. I loved the fast pace and the simplicity of the writing. But I don’t think it was ever going to be a top read of the year for me.

Having said that, I can imagine this author is going to become an instant-read author, for when I just want an easy thriller that doesn’t require a lot of brain power or energy, but I want something slightly darker.

Once again massive thank you to the author and to Netgalley.

Fast paced, and kept my interest. Lots of twists, and enjoyed the plot. Didn't love the writing style, but that's just a personal preference.

Thank you for an advanced copy of this book it is short but to the point and one of the best psychological books I’ve ever read!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early!

I did not expect that ending at all! I had my suspicions about Katherine, but Abby really threw me for a loop! I saw Abby as sweet, doting, and innocent. SHE WAS NOT. The author did a really good job portraying Spencer as the killer. This was my first book by thid author and I will definitely be reading more of his work!

Man what a crazy fast fun read! This book did such a great job removing the fluff that a lot of books have. It also does a great job giving you some really good twists that keep you guessing til the end. I think they did a great job rounding out the characters and even in such a short book he has you rooting for one. So thanks NetGalley for giving me a chance to read this early. Definitely a must read for anyone who loves domestic thrillers.

This was an interesting book. In the beginning, I didn't really thing that I would enjoy it. The characters were a tad annoying, and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get into it at all. However, that soon changed! All of a sudden, I realized that I was 100% hooked and could not put this book down. I read it in one day because I just needed to know what was going to happen next.
You may be able to sort out a bit of the story before it happens but at the same time it leaves you wondering if what you are thinking is actually correct. It's got some good twists and turns, so the ending was quite enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the sort of simplicity of the author's writing as well. It was written in a way that the words just flowed, and I was able to read it easily and quickly.
In the end I really liked this.

Jack Dane hit it out of the park with his newest book, His First Wife. It was an absolute pleasure reading this book!

I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick read which I always appreciate. And it kept me on the edge of my seat as I was almost going through this process with Abby. I find that oftentimes characters in psychological thrillers tend to bother me but in this case it made complete sense by the end. I did not expect that twist, and you're sure to enjoy this one. If you like quick, easy reads that keep you guessing, His First Wife is great pick! The author gives a similar tone to Freida McFadden and almost makes me wonder how someone can even imagine up characters like this. I am here for it though, give me the popcorn and a little suspense and I'm in! Jack Dane really captures your attention from the first page and as someone who loves playing detective and trying to figure out who dunnit, I enjoyed that aspect of it.

Get ready for a great time and get your notes ready, I certainly had mine with all my theories as I went through.

Big thanks to Jack Dane for the ARC! This is my honest opinion.

He’s the perfect husband…if you can forget the rumors about his first wife. Abby is happily married to her dream guy handsome, hardworking, and completely devoted. Sure, there are those nagging rumors about the mysterious disappearance of his first wife, but Abby trusts the man she married. Until an unmarked letter arrives and upends her life in a single sentence. YOU DON’T KNOW YOUR HUSBAND!!! Good book! Wow! Some wild twists in this book! It also had great suspense, murder, mystery, gaslighting, intrigue, and a shocking who done it that you don’t see coming! The storyline was very interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

This was my second book by Jack Dane and I'm obsessed!!! Fast paced, filled with twists, such well developed characters. I could not put this book down and stayed up way too late finishing it. I thought for sure I had this one figured out but the final plot twist was shocking!!! 5 stars, can't wait for whatever Dane comes out with next!

If you're looking for a psychological thriller where you'll be on your feet wondering what's next - this is the book for you. Readers are introduced to Spencer, a handsome guy living in NYC with his beautiful wife, Abby. At first glance you would think he is the perfect husband, but Abby soon learns about all his hidden flaws and the truth comes out.

I loved how the author did a dual narrative in this book that kept the story in suspense. I will definitely say that this book is a page turner that has plot twists that will make you want to finish the book in one reading. Great fast paced psychological thriller that I believe readers will enjoy!

Thank you to Netgalley and Jack Dane for the ARC. This is my honest opinion.
