A very inspirational well-designed and motivational book for artists with a strong Christian focus. The cover is gorgeous and I like the author's voice, he takes us on a journey of self discovery.

Old Soul, New Creation is a stunning book. Whether you are interested in Jake Weidman’s story (and it is a fascinating one) or you are just captivated by the artwork, you will enjoy this gorgeous book. Jake is a Master Penman and as you flip through the pages, you will be transfixed by the measure of talent graced to this artist. He is open and humble as he tells his story and shares how God called (more like ushered) him into this vocation. Images will show you both Jake at work and some of his final creations (wait until you read about his wife’s engagement ring!). They are no less than breathtaking. The intricacies, attention to detail, and ability to capture movement and essence is truly a special gift. I originally thought maybe there would be a lot of cool drawings, but really, his talents are not limited to the pen only. There are many mediums in which Jake showcases his talent and ability to create. It really is a movement of expression, a state of being, and a pleasure to experience even a small sampling of his creativity. You will be inspired, blessed, and perhaps challenged as you read this book. Let the Spirit move, let the Lord speak, and let yourself just be in His awesome presence.

Back of the Book: “Renew your soul through the beauty of art and creativity. As the youngest certified Master Penman in the world, Jake knows the dedication it takes to hone skill and refine talent to be a successful creator. But as an acclaimed painter and woodworker, Jake Weidmann also has firsthand experience of drawing near and relying on his Creator to guide his work. For the first time, Jake invites you into his artist's studio to see the Maker's steady hand at work in his life and art, and ultimately to inspire you to embrace God's calling over you, whatever it may be.”

Impressions: This was a surprising book. I was thinking this would be a book of artwork and it was, but not the visual form that you might be thinking. The beauty I found in this book was God's hand in Jake Weidmann’s life. I appreciated Weidmann’s experiences and honesty in sharing his story. He is a master of his craft, as seen in the smallest detail of his work. He genuinely shares the same detail here in his story as an artist, husband, and father. His faithfulness to God, his family, and his craft was beautifully shared in this book, along with pictures and snapshots of his artwork.

Thank you, NetGalley and publisher, for the opportunity to review this book!

This book is hard to describe. It’s something like an artist’s origin story. The artwork featured is truly beautiful. The book also weaves in numerous inspirational religious messages. I’m certain the artwork would shine best in a hard copy. It looked lovely on my Kindle, but I’m convinced a printed version would be far superior.
