I wanted to like this book. I love narrative non-fiction, and my husband and I ride motorcycles together. I think I could have loved this book if it was given more time to be developed.
The writing was uneven. There were places where this book had some sentences that made it sound like the author was trying to say something really impactful. Those sentences stuck out really harshly among the very stark writing.
After reading almost half this book (I did not finish it), I don't feel like I know anything about the author, his wife, or any of the countries they saw. Each chapter is pretty long, but they are all written very factually. I wanted to know about the people the met, the food they ate, the things they were looking at. I wanted to know who these people are and why this adventure was 'Wife-Changing'. I don't feel like any of those details would have become apparent had I continued this book. There is no heart in these chapters. The most I have learned is that you need a lot of different insurance to drive around Europe.
I love the idea of this book; I did not love the execution.
